SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From SCTC Wednesday 16.11.16 – Race 7: P. Hammersley, the rider of EQUISTAR, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1100m he allowed his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of LAUDABLE LEMON, resulting in that horse being taken in on to the rightful running of PUISSANCE DECHEVAL, which was tightened for room and had to be checked. As a result, PUISSANCE DECHEVAL overreacted to the tightening after making contact with the running rail and as a consequence became very awkward and ultimately fell, dislodging jockey Wiggins. In considering penalty, stewards established that whilst PUISSANCE DECHEVAL was tightened for room, the gelding overreacted to this tightening and after brushing the inside running rail shifted in further and became very awkward before attempting to jump the fence and dislodging jockey Wiggins. It was also noted that immediately after runners to the inside of EQUISTAR were tightened, jockey Hammersley did make endeavours to rectify the situation by placing pressure on his outside rein and directing his mount outwards. As stewards were satisfied that these factors should be reflected in penalty, and given that jockey Hammersley has a good record in relation to careless riding matters, they determined that a 17 day suspension from riding in races should be imposed, to commence at midnight on Saturday 3 December and expire at midnight on Tuesday 20 December 2016.
