He indicated that at Eagle Farm on 9 November the gelding raced well and he expected a forward showing at the horse’s most recent start on 25 November at Ipswich, however the horse performed poorly and he felt that the firm racing surface on that occasion may have been a contributing factor. He also indicated that the addition of blinkers may have been a factor in today’s performance.

SURPRISE RESULT – Steadied and lost ground when placed in restricted room passing the 600m. The gelding then laid in from that point onwards.

SICARIO – When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, M. Cahill stated that from the wide alley he was obliged to position the horse at the tail of the field in order to obtain cover closer to the fence and was then obliged to shift very wide on the home turn in order to secure clear running. He indicted that in all the circumstances he was satisfied with the horse’s performance as the horse was doing its best work over the concluding stages and finished the race off well. He advised that connections intend stepping the horse up over more distance. Lost the near fore plate in running.

Race 7: BOSS BUILDING MAINTENANCE PTY LTD RQ SUMMER PROV (HEAT) BM 75 H’CAP – 1400M

I AM THE SCULPTOR – Stewards questioned J. Lloyd regarding the performance and his riding of the horse. He indicated that the gelding began better than he had anticipated, as the horse has historically been slow to begin. He then took hold in order to settle behind THREE BEERS PLEASE, however after passing the 1200m his mount commenced to overrace and he was obliged to shift wider to avoid heels. He attempted to then settle I AM THE SCULPTOR behind FRENCH HUSSLER, however the horse continued to overrace and raced very fiercely until the near the 500m. He also indicated that when bumped by KIM NOIR, which shifted out near the 450m, I AM THE SCULPTOR resented this and raced with its head in the air. He indicated that as the horse overraced, this had a detrimental effect on the overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

Stewards advised Mr Bryant that a warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners.

GAME OF FAME – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be making an abnormal respiratory noise. Stewards advised connections that the horse must have an endoscopic examination and trial satisfactorily prior to its next start. Connections advised stewards that consideration would be given to retiring the mare.

PERFORATION – T. Harrison reported that her mount overraced throughout. She added that in light of today’s performance, connections would consider starting the horse over a shorter distance next start.
