ALASSAK – A pre-race veterinary examination of the horse, which was delayed due to  traffic congestion, cleared the gelding to start.

DANDOG – Began awkwardly.

PERFORATION – Commenced to overrace in the early stages and as a result was shifted out by its rider where it continued to overrace in the middle stages,  then raced 3 wide without cover thereafter.

Race 3: XXXX Class 1 H’cap – 1000m

CURRENT FIGURES – Declared a late scratching at 7.47 pm for veterinary reasons.

SOLTINHO LAD – Began awkwardly.

REMEMBER MERV -  Jockey M. Cahill reported that his mount travelled well in the early stages, however after the 700m the horse dropped the bit and commenced to give ground, and as he was concerned with its action did not persist and eased the gelding down in the straight.  A post race veterinary  examination  revealed the gelding to be significantly lame in the hind legs. Trainer Mr A. Williamson undertook to provide stewards with the results of a further veterinary examination of the horse tomorrow, and was advised  that before being permitted to start again the gelding  must trial satisfactorily and would need to furnish to stewards a veterinary clearance.

AZARENKA – Bled from the near-side nostril following the event. Connections were advised that the horse must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop before stewards.

Race 4:  Yalumba Maiden Plate – 1600m

On return to scale a protest was lodged by M. Cahill, rider of the 2nd placegetter, Royal Receiver, against Gold Reserve being declared the winner, alleging interference on the home turn. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the patrol video, it was established that Royal Receiver was racing 3 wide outside the heels of Red Saga, was then bumped heavily by Gold Reserve, which improved to its inside and then shifted out to obtain a run.  Whilst stewards conceded Royal Receiver was bumped at this stage by Gold Reserve, however bearing in mind how the2 horses finished the race off, and in,  in view of the  short neck margin between them at the  finish they couldn’t be satisfied that the incident near the 400m cost Royal Reserve the race and therefore the protest was dismissed. Subsequently, R. Wiggins, rider of Gold Reserve, was reprimanded for this incident.

ROYAL RECEIVER – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the gelding would be ridden in a little more forward position  than recent starts.  The horse was ridden accordingly.

SICARIO -- After arriving at the start the tongue-tie on  the horse  became displaced. Despite numerous attempts to have it refitted, SICARIO proved continuously fractious and as a result the tongue-tie  could not be refitted and the horse raced without that gear.

In the straight Sicario was eased down. Jockey J. Orman reported the horse travelled in the run for him, however he became concerned from the 600m when he placed it under pressure and it commenced to give ground. As he was of the view that  something was amiss with the gelding and he eased it down in the straight.  A post veterinary examination revealed the horse to be suffering from heat stress.  Trainer N. McCall noted after the race the horse’s tongue was somewhat discoloured which was indicative that it may have swallowed its tongue during the race.  Whilst it did not race today with a tongue-tie it would now be her intention in future to continue to use that piece of gear.  In all the circumstances no further action was taken against the gelding.

Race 5:  Saturday, 28 January 2017 @ SCTC QTIS 3yo Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1400m

RANEN – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground at the start.   Trainer D. Hansen advised the horse would now be spelled.  Stewards advised Mr Hansen that he must provide a barrier certificate for the horse prior to its next race start.

SISTER PATTI – Overraced in the early and middle stages due to the pace.

BOLD HEART – Overraced in the early and middle stages due to the pace.

Race 6: Butler McDermott Lawyers Class 1  H’cap – 1400m

On return to scale a protest was lodged by apprentice S. Lacy, rider of the 3rd placegetter Wonderful Tale, against General Assault being declared 2nd, alleging interference at the 200m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards patrol video, it was established that Wonderful Tale was endeavouring to improve between Kulaba and General Assault, and after the 200m General Assault shifted out marginally.  Whilst stewards conceded that it did so, they were of the view that Wonderful Tale had not yet established  running between the 2 horses,  therefore determined it was not fully into that run and that her protest  be dismissed.

KID CRUIZE – Began very awkwardly and shifted in abruptly.

ROCKING MY WORLD – Hampered at the start.

HOT LIPSTICK – Steadied when disappointed for a run on straightening between  KID CRUIZE and SUNRISE GLORY, which shifted out slightly. Jockey R. Wiggins, rider of SUNRISE GLORY, was reprimanded for shifting out when not fully clear.

KID CRUIZE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 7: Yalumba MM Country Cup Qualfier Open H’cap – 1200m
