Crompton, A. ChallenStarter – R. HansonStewards Secretary – W. Ostrofski Race 1: SUNSHINE COAST DAILY CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1200MThe start of this race was delayed when apprentice J. Guthmann-Chester (GREAT PATIENCE) was dislodged en route to the barriers. The horse underwent a veterinary inspection and had to be resaddled. JETINTOIT had to be reshod behind the barriers. ADHERE – Slow to begin and was obliged to settle at the rear of the field and as a result overraced in the early and middle stages. L. Tarrant reported that in his opinion this had a detrimental effect on the horse’s overall performance. Race 2: MASK EVENTS CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000M OCEAN CITY – Bumped by another runner near the 300m. STOLE THE SHOW – J. Lloyd reported that the horse was making a respiratory noise post-race and that he had recommended to connections that a tongue tie be added to the horse’s gear. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer L. Birchley was advised that he will be required to produce the results of an endoscopic examination on the horse. IN TAIWAN – Laid in under pressure shortly after entering the straight and made contact with another runner near the 300m. BY CONCENT – Bled both nostrils, first time. Ineligible to start for 3 months, and before racing again must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m in the presence of a steward. Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to SOFT 5. Race 3: BATTERY WISE SUNSHINE COAST QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M ATOMIC MISSILE – Raced wide without cover. BOGEY MAN – Had difficulty securing clear running over the final 100m. Apprentice R. Johnston-Bell pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that leaving the 400m whilst his mount was shifting out he applied the whip in the right hand and rode the horse along, resulting in his mount shifting out further, causing interference to SWISS ART, which had to be checked, and RAJA AMPAT, which had to take evasive action. Apprentice Johnston-Bell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 12 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 22 January and expire at midnight on Friday 3 February 2017. CORNFORTH – When placed in restricted room near the 700m, shied in and away from runners to the outside and had to be checked. RAJA AMPAT – Slow to begin. Had to be steadied leaving the 400m. SWISS ART – Bumped by another runner on jumping. Had to be checked leaving the 400m. DAINTY STEPPER – As R. Wiggins was to be overweight, R. Stewart was substituted as rider. R. Wiggins was fined $200. KYLIE’S KISSES – Raced greenly in the home straight and then had some difficulty securing clear running over the concluding stages. PANDORA’S TALE – Slow to begin, failed to muster any speed and tailed off. WHAT A SMILE – Jumped away awkwardly, made heavy contact with another runner and lost ground. Race 4: HYGAIN QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M BELIEVE IT OR NOT – Raced wide throughout. ENGRAVED – When asked to commend on the horse’s performance, apprentice J. Guthmann-Chester stated that despite riding vigorously in the early stages, the gelding was unable to muster early speed and whilst the horse raced tractably, was only doing its best work over the concluding stages. He added he had advised connections that the horse would be better served racing over more distance. HENRY’S AFFAIR – Buffeted on jumping and lost ground. PUBLISHING POWER – Hung out from the 700m until entering the home straight. REAL MACHINE – Jumped awkwardly and then raced greenly throughout. TAY SWIFT – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 5: RUSSELL DELL – CENTURY 21 NEW PROJECTS MAIDEN PLATE – 1600M ELUSIVE ELEMENT – Slow to begin and was unable to muster early speed. LAUDABLE LEMON – Raced three wide without cover. MURT REYNOLDS – Severely checked near the 850m and lost significant ground when racing behind LITTLE MISS MONACO, which had commenced to weaken, and then was unable to improve until near the 600m. SOUND INVESTMENT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. SWEET NOTE – When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, trainer R. West explained that this was the horse’s first racing campaign and that the distance of 1600m combined with the trip from Rockhampton may have been telling factors in today’s performance. He indicated that the horse will now be sent for a spell. LITTLE MISS MONACO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse had sustained lacerations consistent with being galloped on. Trainer G. Hay was advised that he will be required to provide a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to it being permitted to race again. Race 6: PERRY'S SUNSHINE COAST EVENT HIRE MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M The start of this race was effected manually when the electronic starting mechanism failed. INTERVENTIONS – Raced wide in the early stages, ridden forward to the lead when passing the 850m. Shifted out near the 400m to secure clear running and made contact with another runner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. IDALIA’S DREAM – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. MEHMETO – Bumped by another runner on a number of occasions passing the 400m. D. Browne was questioned regarding the performance of the horse, which weakened significantly in the home straight. He indicated that he was quite disappointed with the overall performance. He added that after travelling well, the horse may not have been entirely comfortable in the soft track conditions. GENERAL SIDEREUS – Raced wide in the early stages, ridden forward to the lead when passing the 850m and then overraced in the lead. ENLIGHTENED – When questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance, connections indicated that the horse raced greenly at its first start, was ridden in a similar manner to today’s event, and the step up in distance was beneficial. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. UNCHARTERED – Raced wide without cover.Race 7: SUNSHINE CABS CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1600M PERCY ON PARADE – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse had sustained an injury to the near fore tendon. Trainer S. Mackinnon was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to being permitted to race again. WINNING ACCORD – Laid in under pressure from the 400m. FAVULOUS FLOYD – Slow to begin. Race 8: MOCO FOOD SERVICES BENCHMARK 75 H'CAP – 1300M The start of this race was delayed to hold for another venue. RIGHT ADVICE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer D. Hansen indicated that he would be considering the horse’s immediate racing future. I FEEL GOOD – Slow to begin. Race 9: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1400M The start of this race was delayed when HELL OF A QUEST became fractious and was cast in the barriers. The horse underwent a veterinary inspection and was cleared to start. In this incident a barrier attendant was injured and required medical attention following the event. HELL OF A QUEST – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have lacerations to the hind leg and blood from the left nostril consistent with trauma. SPIRIT OF KIOWA – Badly tightened and buffeted on jumping away and lost ground. CAPE DENISON – Raced wide without cover. MINSK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SWEET BUCKS – Raced wide throughout. HE’S ALL HEART – Badly tightened and buffeted on jumping away and lost ground. Overraced approaching and passing the 900m when the pace of the race steadied.
