Race 1: Caloundra RSL Maiden Plate – 1600m

ENDLESS HOPE – After arriving late on course due to transport delays, the horse was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.

STORMY LEO – As J. Guthman-Chester failed to arrive on course for his engagement, C. Bayliss was substituted as the rider of the horse. Apprentice Guthman-Chester was fined $200.

LIKAPOSTIE - Apprentice S. Lacy pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1300m she allowed her mount to shift in when not fully clear of STORMY LEO, which had to be checked and lost ground. Apprentice Lacy was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight, 9 April and to expire at midnight, 17 April. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account her guilty plea, good record and that she has only recently returned to race riding after suffering an injury. Held up entering the home straight.

ANGEL MIO – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground.

COLLEGIATE – When questioned regarding the performance of the horse, apprentice A. Sewell stated the gelding raced wide in the early stages before settling in a forward position and travelled comfortably, however when placed under pressure the gelding failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Apprentice A. Sewell was fined $100 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

The start of this race was delayed until the completion of an interstate event.

TIME TO PLAY – Jockey J. Lloyd reported that his mount raced greenly throughout the race.

STAR CUGAT – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice T. Brooker reported that whilst she was forced to race wide throughout, she was nevertheless disappointed in the filly’s effort in finishing the race off, and eased her mount over the concluding stages. Trainer reported that the filly had returned to scale with blood in its mouth and had dislodged 2 teeth, and would advise stewards of any further abnormalities that may come to light.

CSARDAS – Apprentice N. Summers was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts right out to the finish line.

Duncan and rider D. Browne were interviewed and as BARNSLEY was expected to be a forward runner stewards found that the horse was denied a fair start and that this occurrence had prejudiced the chances of that horse finishing first, second or third.
