After the running of Race 1 stewards receivedd a report from a member of the Queensland Racing Integrity Commissionns IRU that whilst attending trainer P. Duncanns on-course stables he witnessed the nostrils of SENSEOFWONDER (Race 3) being treated with a nasal preparation. Stewards subsequently interviewed Mr Duncan, who confirmed that this treatment had occurred at his direction. Acting under the provisions of AR. 178E(2), stewards ordered the withdrawal of the mare at 1:00 pm. Following a verbal assurance from Mr Duncan that his runners in Race 5, SEA ROUTE and SHOCKFACTOR, had not received this treatment, stewards permitted them to race. Mr Duncan subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 175(k) of being negligent in that he permitted a runner to be treated on race day and was fined $500.
