THE PERPETRATOR Stewards questioned jockey R. Stewart regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages when it appeared he had opportunity to improve to obtain a position closer to the lead.. He explained that he had pre-race plans to settle at the tail of the fieldd as connections had indicated the horse had not performed well whenn positioned more forward.. He added that approaching the 1600m when runners to his inside were being restrained, he considered allowing his mount to stride forward, however felt that continuingg to attempt to position at the tail of the fieldd he would not be that far from the lead given that it was only a 5-horse field.. Jockey Stewartt did however advise that after passing the 1400m he, with hindsight, believed that to stride forward would have been a more favourable option.

Race 3: Bob Jane T-Marts Maroochydore QTIS 3yo CG&E Maiden Plate 1000m

CONSPICUOUS Jockey R. Stewart was asked to comment on the performance of the horse.. He indicated he had been obliged to do more work than he would have liked in the early stages in order to cross to the lead, however the horse was still, in his opinion, disappointing in its finishing effort.. A post race veterinary examinationn revealed the horse was showing signs of a low grade respiratory infection.. Trainer B. Lockwood advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.

Stewart was severely admonished and advised that his actions regarding this incidentt bordered on reckless. Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight and again near the 200m.

AMERIDON Jockey M. Cahill reported his mount was very disappointing in the run to the line. He indicated the horse had to work a little bit in the early stages when pressured in the lead, however the horse failed to respond to his riding over the final 400m. Trainer L. Birchley confirmed his disappointment in the performance and would look to experiment with the horsees gear in trackwork and attempt to have the horse ridden with cover if possible at its next race start.. He also undertook to advise stewards of anything that comes to light in the coming days with the horse that may have had a bearing on its performance.  A post race veterinary examination of the horse revealed a slow post race recovery.
