BIERBOWER – Slow to begin.

Race 2: The Pump House CG&E Maiden Plate – 1400m

The start of this race was delayed due to a false start occurring. All 7 riders attempted to restrain their mounts immediately upon hearing the warning signals, and all horses were restrained within 400m of the start.  All horses then underwent veterinary examinations and were cleared to start.  During this period the starter tested the barriers on 2 occasions and were found to be functioning normally.  Stewards consulted with the club in relation to the barriers and were advised that the barriers within the last 10 days had been serviced by the manufacturers and stewards were satisfied that no mechanical issue had caused the false start and were of the view it could be attributed to one of the runners making contact with the barriers prior to the start being effected.

PIPEMAJOR - Slow to begin.

DE LA LAD – Slow to begin.  Overraced in the early stages. Stewards sought an explanation  from jockey B. Stewart regarding the tactics as the horse settled to the rear of the field which was in contrast to its most recent form. He advised stewards he had been given no specific instructions, however after being slow to begin, and the horse showing no early pace, he elected to settle  at the at the tail of the field.  Stewards reviewed footage of the race and accepted his explanation

HEADLIGHTS - When the pace was only steady in the early stages overraced and as a result shifted wider  away from the heels and then was ridden aggressively and assumed the position outside the lead passing the 700m.

MORESKA SWORD – When tiring in the home straight raced greenly, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten at a point near the 200m.

Race 3:  Hot 91.1 Class 3 Plate – 1600m

The start of this race was delayed due to the false start in the previous event.  The start was further delayed when COLOUR OF MONEY needed to be replated.

OMNIA MARKA TAYADA  – Reared as the start was effected, dislodging its rider. Jockey A. Best was subsequently examined by the doctor and cleared of any injury.

COLOUR OF MONEY - Forced wider in the home straight by the riderless horse, forcing jockey A. Allen to stop riding near the 150m.

SAIL THE STARS – Inconvenienced by the riderless horse near the 700m.

GYPSY WILD – Held up for a short distance passing the 500m.

FELIX – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 4: Sunshine Coast Daily Class 1 H’cap – 1200m

SWIPPA DA MOUSE – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

SHAOLIN KUNGFU – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey G. Colless indicated after being held up rounding the home turn he felt the gelding was a strong chance as it felt as though the horse was full of running,  however when afforded clear running shortly after entering the home straight between FATAL RENDEZVOUS and STORMY DESTINY, the horse failed to quicken as he had anticipated and was somewhat disappointing in the home straight.

RELAXED – Shifted out after passing the 700m to improve and was wide from that point onwards.

FATAL RENDEZVOUS – Jockey T. Brooker was fined $200 for using her whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

Race 5: Follow@sctcturfclub QTIS 3yo Fillies Maiden Plate – 1200m

ILLEGALITY – Declared a late scratching at 3.55 pm on veterinary advice.

KOPELLY – Slow to begin.

EPIC PIPER – Placed in restricted room near the 1100m and had to be steadied. Momentarly held up approaching the 400m. Then had some difficulty securing clear running in the home straight.

NOT SO WILD – Overraced when restrained to obtain cover near the 800m.

IMAY SHOUT - Momentarily held up approaching the 400m. Improved onto heels after passing the 100m and went to the line without being fully tested. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey R. Wiggins advised that from the wide alley he had been instructed to settle in the second half of the field.  He said  he could have been in a more forward position however he would have been caught wide and  restrained to the tail of the field.  He  also had been instructed not to shift too wide on the home turn as connections did not wish the horse to be positioned wide when being asked to improve into the race and as a result  remained closer to the fence.   Jockey Wiggins added he had some difficulty in securing clear running rounding the home turn and the horse finished the race off well despite being unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages, adding  he was very happy with the overall performance.

KENDALL’S DREAM – Raced wide without cover.

Race 6:  Yalumba Wines Benchmark 75 H’cap – 1400m

FLAMIN’ MOGUL – Trainer G. Duncan was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time.

CHAMPAGNE ROCK – Due to S. Lacy having  transport difficulties, apprentice T. Williams was substituted as the rider of the horse.

The start of the event was delayed due to CONNOLLY having to be resaddled.

MARKSFIELD – The saddle slipped forward in the early stages of the event, placing him at a disadvantage after the horse overraced in the early stages.

REALLY REILLY – Was placed in restricted room during the early stages of the home straight.

CONNOLLY – The saddled slipped back during the event, placing her at somewhat of a disadvantage.

Race 7: Weddings At SCTC F&M Maiden Plate – 1400m

WENDOUREE RED – Inconvenienced by another runner at the start and lost ground. Jockey L. Tarrant was questioned regarding the tactics adopted from leaving the 600m. He indicated after shifting off the fence to a position behind LEAPIN’ LENA, he was unable to shift any wider from that point as he would have caused interference to runners to his outside.  He elected therefore near the 450m to shift back in an attempt to follow PRINCESS DEVINE when LEAPIN’ LENA had commenced to weaken. However after making this manoeuvre he was unable to secure clear running from that point onwards and went to the line without being fully tested.  Stewards advised jockey Tarrant that, in their opinion with hindsight from the 250m he may have been better served restraining and attempting to shift out around LEAPIN’ LENA, however given that LEAPIN’ LENA was weakening at that stage of the race, they were accepting of his reasons for not taking this option and took no further action.

MISS POWDER KEG – Jumped awkwardly, bumping heavily with another runner. Pulled hard in the early stages and was then ridden forward from the 700m to improve into the event, and raced wide from that point onwards.

QUEEN BEATRICE – Overraced and was steadied from heels near the 900m. Jockey L. Cheshire reported that it had been her intention  to settle in a forward position, however after being tightened for room at the start she was obliged to settle in the second half of the field.

GINGO – Raced wide without cover.

GOLDEN RAINBOWS – Raced wide whilst overracing.

WOOLOOMAN SKY – Apprentice S. Lacy reported it had not been his intention to be in and forward half of the field, however after beginning well she would have been  forced to race wide and therefore allowed her mount to stride forward to the lead.
