JAKUTA – Stewards accepted trainer A. Plumb’s explanation for the late rider declaration of P. Hammersley.

SOME COLLECT – Bumped by another runner and lost ground at the start.

IMA FARMBOY – Bled from both nostrils. Connections were advised that the gelding would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.

Race 3: Special Olympics Sunshine Coast Maiden H’cap – 1600m

MISS MISSILE – As jockey P. Hammersley was to be overweight, S. Cormack was substituted as the rider of the horse. Jockey Hammersley was fined $100. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse had a poor post-race recovery and was making an upper respiratory noise. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided, including the results of an endoscopic examination, prior to the mare’s next race start.  Apprentice Z. White was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that she allowed her mount to shift in approaching the 1200m when not clear of EQISTAR, which was taken in, tightening the running  of MISS MISSILE, which after having been bumped on the inside  by another runner, namely BEYOND BRAVE, was then tightened for room and obliged to check at that point of the race. Apprentice White was suspended from riding in races for a period of 9 days, to commence at midnight, 5 March and to expire at midnight, 14 March.

EQUISTAR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

BEYOND BRAVE – Raced greenly in the home straight.

ARGIE BARGIE – Jockey M. McGillivray reported at scale the mare had abrasions to both hind fetlocks and had lost both front plates in running.

Race 4: Special Olympics Sunshine Coast Maiden H’cap – 1600m

WHAT DO YA THINK – Due to transport difficulties, apprentice J. Guthman-Chester was unable to fulfil his engagement on the horse and was replaced by apprentice A. Sewell. Stewards questioned trainer L. Garrett regarding the seemingly improved performance of the horse. She indicated that the horse was stepping up to a more favourable distance today and, in her opinion, has always appreciated rain affected conditions. She added she had expected a forward showing today as she believed this event was of lesser quality in comparison to the horse’s racing form.

JET’N’WILD – Slow to begin.

SIDERE – Steadied from heels after passing the 600m.

PIPEMAJOR – Laid in throughout the event.

Lloyd indicated the horse did not travel comfortably in the rain affected conditions and after blundering badly near the 700m commenced to lose touch with the main body of the field and was very disappointing in the run to the line.  Trainer T. Edmonds agreed with the comments of jockey Lloyd, indicating that the stable was quite disappointed with the performance.  Stewards advised Mr Edmonds that they would follow up with the horse’s progress in the coming days.   A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
