HansonStewards Secretary – P. Carey _________________________________ Race 1: Steps Charity Class 3 H’cap – 1200m MEHMETO – Slow to begin. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. SUGGAN BUGGAN – Slow to begin. VITAL LOVE – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey B. Grylls indicated that after being tightened for room at the start, the horse raced somewhat field shy and she was obliged to pressure her mount in order to remain in touch with the main body of the field, however finished the race off well. SMASHED IT– A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which weakened badly from the 600m and finished a distant last, revealed the gelding to be making an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer M. Kropp was advised that the horse must undergo an endoscopic examination following a gallop, with the results to be forwarded to stewards, and that a veterinary clearance would also be required. Race 2: Nautical Roofing QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1300m COURAGE WITHIN – Slow into stride. Held up rounding the home turn. Jockey R. Plumb was reprimanded for raising his whip arm higher than his shoulder over the concluding stages. SHOWY LADY – Slow into stride. NORTHERN DRAGON – Tightened for room shortly after the start, and then overraced in the early and middle stages. NOTNECESSARILYSO – Obliged to alter course near the 400m to secure clear running. TEYSSIER – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. ROSCOMMON – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. COUNTRY LUCK – Bumped near the 300m. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice J. Murphy indicated that the horse overraced slightly in the early stages and was also bumped by other runners on a number of occasions after the 600m, which he believed may have had a bearing on the performance. He also advised that the horse had shifted its near fore plate on return to scale. Race 3: Elite Trade Supplies QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1300m FOXY AFFAIR – Hampered when crowded for room at the start. KEMSREY – Hampered when crowded for room at the start. Jockey M. McGillivray reported that his mount was reluctant to muster speed in the early stages and raced greenly throughout. ALANA’S PARTY – Inconvenienced when bumped shortly after the start. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. SHOWSCAY – Overraced after leaving the 1200m and until approaching the 700m. RIVER BOY - Overraced after leaving the 1200m and until approaching the 700m. SOUL SECRETS – Raced wide. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn. NAKED – Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and until the 300m. BON COURAGE – When weakening was inconvenienced by another runner after passing the 200m. Jockey L. Cassidy reported that his mount laid in for the majority of the event. EXORBITANCE – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. Race 4: BA Constructions Class 2 H’cap – 1000m CORAL BAY – Declared a late scratching at 6.45 pm on veterinary advice after sustaining lacerations to both hind legs. ARGYLL BAY – Began awkwardly. SKYSCRAPER – Slow into stride. Shifted out after leaving the 400m to secure clear running and in doing so made contact with another runner. ALL PLUCK – Bumped by another runner near the 350m. Race 5: Jensen Electrical Maiden H’cap – 1000m DUELLATOR – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. LOTS OF PROMISE - Laid in under pressure and was obliged to steady from the heels of UNDERTHEMISTLETOE, which shifted out under pressure near the 250m. Apprentice S. Lacy, rider of UNDERTHEMISTLETOE, was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten her mount. SINGLE LASS – Raced wide. SHE’S TIPSY – Raced wide. Race 6: Technistone Benchmark 58 H’cap – 1300m The start of this event was delayed as a result of PORTSEA (A. Allen) and MISS BENETEAU (R. Stewart) having to be reweighed when it was discovered that the incorrect saddle cloth number had been sent out for PORTSEA. After taking evidence from jockey A. Allen, stewards were satisfied that he had incorrectly sent saddle cloth No. 8 with his saddle rather than his allotted No.7. As a result of this, jockey Allen pleaded guilty to a charge of negligence and was fined the sum of $200. ANNIHILATION – Slow into stride. MISS BENETEAU – Slow into stride. VENETIAN BEAUTY – Obliged to race in restricted room from the 1100m to the 900m. LAVINGTON STAR – Laid in under pressure over the final 100m. EARLSTOUN RULER – Obliged to steady from heels over the concluding stages after having laid in throughout the event. TRY ‘N’ CATCH ME – Raced 3 wide without cover. PERFORATION – Raced 3 wide with cover. GYPSY MISS – Raced 3 wide with cover. Race 7: G&S Plumbing Class 1 H’cap – 1600m The start of this race was delayed due to the delay in the previous race, and also due to jockey N. Thomas being dislodged from SWIPPA DA MOUSE during the preliminary. MAKING SHADOWS – Just prior to the start being effected, put its head down, resulting in it losing ground as the start was effected. When the pace slackened after passing the 1200m had to be restrained from heels. SWIPPA DA MOUSE – Began awkwardly. LE DRAMA – Caught wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward by its rider and raced outside the lead passing the 1400m. PRIEST’S ROAD – When the pace slackened after passing the 1200m had to be restrained from heels. Laid in from the 450m onwards, placing its rider at a disadvantage over the final 200m. OUR GRACIOUS DANE – Jockey M. Hellyer reported that it had not been his intention to ride the mare in such a forward position, however the horse began the race well and he was obliged to race in this position. Race 8: Drains Kleen Class 1 Plate – 2200m SCANDALS – Steadied when crowded for room at the start. SCHWARZY – When overracing had to be checked from heels near the 1700m. ELVISON – Steadied from heels near the 1600m. DANGER IN DEVON – Laid in approaching the first turn near the 1800m. SIR EARLSTOUN – Shifted wider near the 800m to improve and raced wide from that point onwards. Apprentice H. English dropped her whip near the 250m.
