TEYSSIER – Raced in restricted room near the 400m and then shifted out and bumped another runner.

TRUMPFUL – Trainer M. Mair’s stable representative advised that in light of today’s disappointing performance, they will look to place the horse at a non-TAB venue and then review its immediate racing future.

Race 2: HIGGINS COATINGS F&M MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

HINTERLAND SAM – Raced three wide without cover.

LOTS OF PROMISE – Hampered at the start when bumped by another runner.

LOVE BITES – Examined at the barriers by the veterinary surgeon at the request of rider M. Hellyer and was passed fit to race. Slow to begin.

SHE’S TIPSY – Raced wide throughout.

TALAPUS – Slow to begin. Had to be eased near the 700m when tightened for room.

Race 3: HYNES LEGAL QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

SET TO CONQUER – When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, M. McGillivray explained that the gelding travelled well and when he placed it under pressure soon after straightening it did not quicken as he expected and was disappointing.

VICTORY STAR – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance, apprentice C. Bayliss explained that the gelding never travelled comfortably throughout and in his view it has come to the end of its current preparation. Trainer G. Moore could offer no explanation for the horse’s performance other than he believed it was not suited by today’s track conditions. Mr Moore undertook to notify stewards should anything become apparent in ensuing days that may have had an effect on the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

RIVER OF LOVE – Raced three wide without cover throughout. L. Tilley reported that his mount never travelled comfortable throughout and, although it raced three wide, weakened in the home straight and in his view has come to the end of its current preparation. The veterinary surgeon reported that the filly was severely heat stressed after the race.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to SOFT 7.

Race 4: ARCHERS THE STRATA PROFESSIONALS BENCHMARK 70 H'CAP – 1600M

STANLEY – Overraced in the early stages.

WAS IT WORTH IT – Overraced in the early stages. P. Hammersley was questioned regarding his decision to shift out around STANLEY soon after straightening rather than improve to the inside of SCOUTABOUT. P. Hammersley explained that he was of the view that the better part of the track was three to four horses wide and for this reason he elected to shift out rounding the home turn, however, when STANLEY shifted out under pressure in the home straight, he was forced wider on the track than he had anticipated. Stewards noted his explanation.

Race 5: BOSS FIRE PROTECTION CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1400M

THE OVERDRAFT was a late scratching at 4:58 pm due to transport difficulties.

COOCHIN BOY – Hampered at the start.

VERILY – Knuckled soon after the start and lost ground.

MISS BENETEAU – Slow to begin. Hung in when placed under pressure in the straight.

Race 6: MARSH ADVANTAGE INSURANCE F&M CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

JELLYBEAN – Jumped awkwardly and shifted in.

GOLDEN SHEAF – Hampered at the start when tightened for room.

MYMMING – Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $200 for the late notification of apprentice J. Murphy as rider. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

SOME COLLECT – Had to be checked near the 200m to avoid the heels of CASSAVANCE, which shifted in when not fully clear. T. Brooker, the rider of CASSAVANCE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) and her licence to ride in races was suspended for 10 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 18 March and expire at midnight on Monday 26 March 2018. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Brooker’s good record, her guilty plea and that the interference was in the low range.

SETOKA – Hampered at the start when tightened for room.

UNCHARTERED – Raced three wide throughout.

Race 7: ARC UTILITIES C,G&E CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

THE GROOM – Bumped heavily on the hind quarters at the start and became unbalanced. Commenced to overrace in the early stages and near the 850m had to be restrained from heels. Bumped heavily and taken wider on the track near the 800m.

DOUMBEK – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of THE GROOM. Commenced to hang out badly after passing the 800m and had to be checked from the heels of BIDZIIL. Continued to hang out for some distance before being eased down and took no competitive part in the race from the 500m. Trainer L. Stratton was advised that DOUMBEK will be required to compete satisfactorily in an official trial prior to racing again. Ms Stratton indicted that the horse will now be retired from racing. Trainer L. Stratton will be interviewed as to the reason why DOUMBEK had left the course prior to the prescribed time. This resulted in the horse not undergoing a veterinary examination which was required.

FAMOUS GROUSE – Knuckled at the start. Hung out rounding the home turn.
