Race 1: Stockland Caloundra Maiden Plate – 1600m
GILDED LION – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
DELAGO EDITION – Steadied from heels near the 1000m when the pace slackened. Bumped by another runner near the 500m and shifted wider on the track.
BLOOMIN’ ARRY – Shifted out near the 500m to improve and in doing so made heavy contact with another runner. Stewards questioned jockey A. Sewell regarding his riding from the 400m onwards and as to whether he had ridden with sufficient vigour from that point. Jockey Sewell explained that he had bumped another runner approaching the home turn in order to attempt to secure clear running, however this caused his mount to become unbalanced and the horse did not travel comfortably from that point. He added the horse was held up for clear running passing the 400m behind the tiring LEBRON, before he was afforded clear running from the 300m, at which point he urged the horse to improve, however was further inconvenienced when LEBRON shifted in near the 250m. He added that, in his view, the horse had shown little response to his urgings in the early stages of the straight and had lost its competitive chances in the event. Stewards whilst taking no direct action against jockey Sewell, and accepting that the horse had been somewhat inconvenienced by LEBRON, they were of the view that jockey Sewell could have made greater effort from the 200m to the 100m and shown urgency on his mount, and in similar circumstances he should not leave himself open to question.
PIPEMAJOR – Hung in from the 800m to the 400m, then hung out under pressure from the 400m, placing its rider at a disadvantage.
WENDOUREE RED – Bled during event. Connections were advised that the horse will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
Race 2: The Events Centre Class 3 H’cap – 1400m
VITAL LOVE – Jumped away awkwardly and lost significant ground at the start. Jockey B. Grylls reported her instructions had been to attempt to lead in today’s event, however after beginning very awkwardly she was unable to do so. She added that the horse has had a tendency in the past to race field shy and being positioned at the tail of the field did not suit the horse, which did not travel comfortably at any stage of the event. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
LE MATTAN – Slow to begin.
HIDDEN BUDGET – Inclined to overrace in the early stages. Jockey G. Colless was asked to comment on the performance of the horse which finished at the tail of the field. He indicated his mount was making an abnormal respiratory noise and then weakened badly over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse was making an upper respiratory noise and cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that the horse must undergo an endoscopic examination and an ECG, with results reported to stewards prior to trialling satisfactorily.
SHINING BROOKE – Steadied from the heels of a weakening runner passing the 400m.
Following this event the track rating was downgraded to Soft 7.
Race 3: Cloud Nine Weddings Open H’cap – 1400m
WEINHOLT – After riding in this event, J. Byrne was examined by the doctor and stood down from his remaining engagements. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
SPUR LE JOUER – Tightened for room and steadied on jumping away. Held up for clear running for a short distance passing the 300m.
Race 4: Something For Catering QTIS 3yo Fillies Maiden Plate – 1200m
MANILA MISS – D. Brown was substituted for the indisposed J. Byrne as the rider of the horse.
DON’T STUTTER – Change of tactics. Connections advised the horse would be ridden in a more forward position from the wide gate. Blundered badly on jumping away and lost significant ground as a result and was then ridden aggressively to obtain a midfield position with cover. Inclined to lay in and steadied from heels near the 500m.
JEUNESTROEM – Shifted in abruptly on jumping away and then was very difficult to control in the early stages, being inclined to lay in before weakening and finishing a distant last. Trainer D. Batters was advised that he must provide a further barrier certificate for the horse in a jump-out or trial prior to its next race start. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
DAZZLING GREY – Apprentice Q. Krogh reported his mount failed to muster early speed despite being significantly pressured.
CHARWAY – Approaching the 1000m was bumped by another runner and forced in across heels and had to be steadied. Raced wide without cover. Stewards asked jockey
P. Hammersley to comment on the performance of the horse. He indicated he had been instructed to take up a forward position, which in the early stages he felt he was going to obtain a position one off behind the leaders, however when DON’T STUTTER improved to his inside near the 1000m he was obliged to remain 3 wide. He indicated that the horse racing 3 wide without cover did have a detrimental effect on the overall performance, however he also added that the horse, in his opinion, did not travel comfortably in the middle stages of the event, and he recommended to connections that the horse race with the addition of blinkers and also that it be restricted to tracks which are not rain affected if possible.

PLEASED – Apprentice C. Gallagher indicated to stewards he had been instructed to take up a position worse then midfield, however when caught wide in the early stages and when the pace of the race was very slow, he rode forward from the 1300m in a 3 wide position, until obtaining the lead near the 900m.
PRINCE MORPHEUS – A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near fore leg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.
MYMMING – Jockey T. Brooker was fined $500 for using her whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
Race 6: Rumba Beach Resort Class 4 H’cap – 1000m

Raced ungenerously with its head in the air in the early and middle stages of the race. Bled during the event. Connections were advised that the horse would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
