RACING QUEENSLAND STEWARDS REPORT SUNSHINE COAST TURF CLUB – SUNDAY, 22 APRIL 2018 WEATHER – PARTLY CLOUDY TRACK RATING – HEAVY 8/SOFT 7 AFTER RACE 3 RAIL – 2M ENTIRE COURSE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – J. Hanson Race 1: Jim Bean White Maiden Plate - 1800m ONE MAN GRAND – The start was delayed when this horse required farrier attention to have its off fore plate reattached. MANDLAKAZI – Jockey R. Stewart reported after beginning only fairly he took up a position at the tail of the field. He indicated that he would have preferred to be a length or 2 closer to the lead, adding that he was obliged to attempt to improve earlier than he would have liked as the horses he was trailing were not able to take him into the race in what he considered was a slowly run event. He added when under pressure from the 800m the horse did race greenly. MISTA POINT – Overraced in the early stages and as a result shifted wider near the 1600m and raced 3 wide from that point onwards. HAVEN DUKE – Raced wide during the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to assume the lead passing the 1000m. Apprentice S. Lacy was fined $300 for using her whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty stewards took into account rider apprentice S. Lacy won the race. THE PHILOSOPHER – When questioned regarding his mount settling further forward today as compared to its most recent start, A. Spinks explained that the horse was stepping up in distance and at its previous start had settled back in the field. He added when forced to race wide in the early stages he made the decision to allow gelding to settle in the position outside the leader. DELAGO EDITION – Jockey L. Cassidy was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. Stewards in assessing penalty took into account jockey Cassidy’s recent good record in relation to this rule. Race 2: Jim Beam Black Maiden H’cap - 1400m DREAM COMMANDER – Was found upon arrival at the barriers to have blood in its mouth. Examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. HEART OF TOORAK – Significantly slow to begin. QUEEN GEE – Slow to begin. COULDABINAJETSKI – Overraced for a short distance passing the 900m. TE RAPA – Slow to begin. Apprentice H. English reported her mount raced greenly throughout. IT’S NOT AN ISSUE – Jockey L. Cassidy reported his mount hung out throughout and then raced greenly in the home straight, hanging both in and out. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse. GARLAND – A post race veterinary examination found the horse to be making an upper respiratory noise post race. Connections were advised that they must have an endoscopic examination performed and also provide a veterinary certificate. MCCULLOUGH – Cast its off hind plate in running. Race 3: Maker’s Mark Open H’cap – 1000m BEAT STREET – Overraced at heels from the 700m until approaching the 500m. Race 4: Jim Beam Double Serve Class 1 H’cap – 1000m ECKER ROAD – Laid out under pressure in the home straight and had to be steadied from the heels of DUALLATOR, which also laid in over the concluding stages, resulting in ECKER ROAD not being fully tested to the line. DUALLATOR – Held up rounding the home turn. Laid in over the final stages. NOBLE HUSSLER – Held up rounding the home turn. STORM ANCHOR – Apprentice T. Williams reported her mount had a tendency to lay out throughout the event. BARGANNON – A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that an ECG must be performed on the horse, the results of which to be provided to stewards, including a veterinary clearance, and that the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Race 5: Jim Beam Rye Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1600m ARISTOCAT – Blundered on jumping away and lost ground. Raced 3 wide without cover until passing the 1000m. MONTRER DAME – Slow to begin. HIGH DEGREE – Overraced in the early stages. Race 6: Jim Beam Devil’s Cut QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1400m EMSIE IS A STAR – As J. Lloyd was indisposed, D. Browne was substituted as the rider of the horse. TEDDER AVENUE – Subject to any further submissions trainer K. Kemp was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Jockey R. Fradd was fined $200 using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. DAZZLING GREY – Slow to begin and was unable to muster early speed despite being ridden aggressively in the early stages. TOP GLAMOUR – Held up for clear running from the 450m until the 350m. Race 7: Canadian Club Class 1 H’cap - 1400m LUCKY CAPTAIN – Slow to begin. MISS BENETEAU – Tightened for room and lost ground at the start. Obliged to alter course passing the 400m in order to secure clear running and was then placed in restricted room for a short distance near the 300m. ENLIGHTENED – Raced 3 wide without cover. Race 8: Canadian Club Spiced Class 3 H’cap – 1200m ENVIRONMENTAL – Tightened for room between runners near the 300m when Madluce Missile shifted in despite the efforts of its rider after being struck with the whip. Raced 3 wide without cover. CALYPSO BAY – Improved onto heels near the 500m and had to be steadied. MADLUCE MISSILE – On return to scale, jockey A. Allen reported it had been his intention to ride in a more forward position, however after being slow to begin, runners from the outside crossed him quickly and he was obliged to steady and take up a trailing position. From the 300m laid in under pressure in the home straight, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten on a number of occasions. HOT TALK – Apprentice J. Murphy was reprimanded for applying the whip to his mount when out of contention. Stewards questioned apprentice jockey J. Murphy regarding the mare’s performance. He stated that the horse had travelled well approaching the home turn, however when asked for a response in the straight failed to respond and proved very disappointing in the run to the finish line. A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery. Stewards will interview trainer B. Currie in the coming days.
