QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT SUNSHINE COAST TURF CLUB – SUNDAY, 6 MAY 2018 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – 7M PENETROMETER – 6.65 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – J. Hanson ______________________________ Race 1: IGA Sunshine Coast F&M Class 4 H’cap – 1200m AGORA – Slow to begin. OVERGROWN – Slow to begin. VINTAGE BEAUTY – Overraced in the early stages. Race 2: IGA Sunshine Coast QTIS 3yo CG&E Maiden H’cap – 1200m OFF COURSE – As jockey P. Hammersley was indisposed, jockey R .Stewart was substituted as the rider of the horse. MY BLUE THUNDER – Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos was fined $200 for presenting the gelding to race at today’s meeting with hind plates on both hooves which were unsuitable for racing. Raced wide. CONSPICUOUS - Stood flatfooted as the start was effected and lost significant ground. Trainer B. Lockwood was advised that he must provide a barrier certificate for the horse prior to its next race start. Was placed in restricted room for a short distance passing the 200m. TEKKEN WARRIOR – Slow to begin. BOOM BOY – Overraced at heels when the pace slackened near the 900m. Held up rounding the home turn. CIDER APPLE – Raced 3 wide without cover. Race 3: Montrose Therapy & Respite Services Maiden H’cap – 1200m HINTERLAND SAM – Change of tactics. To be ridden further back in the field if circumstances permit. Apprentice T. Williams was asked to comment on her reasons for riding the horse the horse in a forward position. Miss Williams confirmed she had been instructed to ride the horse further back in the field, however the horse began the race very well and rather than dramatically restrain the horse she elected to shift across to the fence when a view that horses to the outside may cross her and afford her cover. However this did not occur and she was obliged to race in the forward half of the field. Stewards noted the explanation. LOTS OF PROMISE – The start was delayed when the mare lunged at the barriers, opening the front of the gates. Then inspected by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Jumped away awkwardly, making contact with another runner. REAL MACHINE – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Raced in restricted room approaching the 900m and became unbalanced. CHOICE GAL – Inconvenienced by another runner on jumping away. TUTOKANULA – Jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner at the start. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. EDDIEADO – Slow to begin. AMERICAN LOVE – Shortly after the start was placed in restricted room and was steadied. Overraced at heels approaching the 700m and obliged to steady and shift out, racing 3 and 4 wide from that point onwards. CALISTO – Raced wide throughout without cover. CRAB BOY – Trainer W. Nugent was asked to explained the seemingly improved performance. He indicated the horse, in his opinion, had appreciated the step-up in distance, however was at a loss to explain the horse’s last start performance. Mr Nugent indicated he supported the gelding at its most recent start and was very disappointed, having had blood tests performed following the event which had failed to identify any problems. He added at both starts this preparation due to the horse being awkward to begin and being tightened for room at its most recent start, the horse had settled further back in the field than he would have liked. Stewards noted the comments. Race 4: IGA Sunshine Coast Benchmark 70 H’cap – 1000m WONDER BOOM – Trainer P. Butterworth was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide without cover. PEKING ROAD – Reared as the start was effected and lost significant ground. Jump away awkwardly. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse regarding it barrier manners. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. PRINCE MANITOU – Raced greenly throughout the event. Jockey Spinks reported that the horse was very field shy from the 700m and laid in badly from that point, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. Jockey Spinks recommended to connections that blinkers be added to the horse’s gear. Race 5: IGA Sunshine Coast Open H’cap – 1400m ALLKNIGHT SAINT – Steadied when obliged to race in restricted room passing the 800m. FAST ARROW – Had difficulty securing clear running over the final 150m. DOUBLE IMPACT – When weakening was steadied when placed in restricted room after passing the 100m. LORDAG – Jockey J. Orman was fined $100 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account his good record in relation to whip breaches. Race 6: IGA Sunshine Coast CG&E Class 4 H’cap – 1200m TRY ‘N’ CATCH ME – When the pace slackened near the 900m, the gelding commenced to overrace and raced with its head in the air and was uncontrollable, causing interference to a number of other runners, and also clipping heels and blundering near the 700m. Trainer M. Kropp was advised that the horse must officially trial prior to its next race start. Mr Kropp indicated in light of today’s performance he would discuss the horse’s racing future with the connections. HANOVER SQUARE – Inconvenienced and forced wider near the 900m and had to be restrained. PERFORATION – Was significantly checked from heels when overracing near the 900m. TAKARAKKA – Forced wider approaching the 800m. Then was steadied from heels near the 700m and remained 4 wide from that point onwards. DOWNLOADING – Obliged to race wide approaching the first turn due to interference to other runners to the inside. Then continued to race wide throughout. MADLUCE MISSILE – Apprentice J. Murphy reported his mount did not muster early speed and did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race. He indicated he was obliged to continually pressure the horse to hold a position. KING RAGNAR – Jockey M. Cahill reported his mount did not show its customary early speed out of the barriers and when caught wide in the early stages was obliged to ride aggressively to secure a position outside the lead passing the 700m. LET’S PARTY MARTY – Obliged to race wide approaching the first turn due to interference to other runners to the inside. Then continued to race wide throughout. Jockey J. Lloyd reported he had intended to be positioned closer to the lead anticipating he would be able to follow DOWNLOADING into a forward position, however when that horse did not proceed forward as he had anticipated he was obliged to steady and settle in the second half of the field. OCEAN CITY – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Race 7: IGA Sunshine Coast Class 1 H’cap – 1400m DO A DABL DOYA – Slow to begin. Made the home turn extremely wide. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey B. Ainsworth stated that after being positioned at the tail of the field the horse overraced approaching the first turn and then commenced to hang out from the 800m and made the home turn extremely wide. She indicated she has ridden the horse previously and it has not had a tendency to hang out before. Trainer K. Deacon reported the horse has previously had an off fore tendon injury and he would have this tendon scanned in the coming days and would report the findings to stewards. Stewards indicated following this the horse would be expected to officially trial prior to its next race start. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. NIVO – Began awkwardly. ARTERIAL – Steadied when bumped by another runner leaving the 1200m. Had some difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn. VOLOMITE – Steadied when obliged to race in restricted room leaving the 1200m. STAR ADELE – Inconvenienced and steadied leaving the 1200m. Raced wide. LUCKY CAPTAIN - Inconvenienced and steadied leaving the 1200m. Held up rounding the home turn. ENTERPRISE MOSS – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to the lead passing the 700m. CURRUMBIN CRAFT – Laid out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
