QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT SUNSHINE COAST TURF CLUB – FRIDAY, 1 JUNE 2018 WEATHER – FINE RAIL – 10M ALL TRACK PENETROMETER – 6.98TRACK RATING – HEAVY 8/SOFT 7 AFTER RACE 1 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – J. HansonStewards Secretary – P. Carey Race 1: QEBS Class 3 Plate – 1800m INFINITE REIGN – Slow to begin. Following this event the track rating was upgraded to Soft 7. Race 2: Alex Surf Club Maiden H’cap – 1800m ROTHFORD – Declared a late scratching at 7.44 am. Trainer B. Ahrens was fined $100 for failing to scratch the horse by the prescribed time. EURO GOLD – Tightened for room at the start. Jockey S. Bogenhuber reported her mount blundered near the 300m and became awkward in its action and for this reason she did not pressure the horse over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. GYPSY’S TIP – Tightened for room at the start. Raced wide in the early stages before striding forward to a position outside the lead passing the 1000m. Jockey B .Thornton reported his mount put in a number of awkward strides rounding the home turn and then failed to respond to his riding in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be making a upper respiratory noise. Trainer B. Smith indicated that he would have further tests performed on the horse. Stewards advised him that the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Race 3: Master Hire Maiden H’cap – 1200m THE ADMINISTRATOR – Jumped away awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey D. Browne confirmed his disappointment with the performance, however could offer no tangible explanation. Trainer S. Kendrick indicated he would have tests performed on the gelding and would report back to stewards in the coming days. LONGAROONIE – Raced 3 wide without cover. IT’S NOT AN ISSUE – Jockey L. Tarrant reported that his mount raced greenly throughout. Race 4: Integrale Homes QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 1300m LOPE FOR JOYA – When slow to begin the saddle slipped back at the start. Laid in in the straight and its rider lost the use of his off-side rein over the final 200m. SUNNY ST CLOUD – Slow to begin. LUVYOULONGTIME – Jockey M. Cahill reported his mount did not travel comfortably in the rain affected conditions. PEPPI LA FEW – When asked to explain his tactics, which were to settle outside the lead in today’s event, jockey D. Browne indicated it was his intention to obtain cover midfield, however when unable to do so and caught wide in the back straight, he rode vigorously to obtain a position closer to the fence outside the lead. SECRET SPIRIT – Lost its near fore plate and off hind plate in running. Race 5: Morafield Shopping Centre F&M H’cap – 1400m LAVINGTON STAR – Slow to begin. BOLD GYPSY – When caught 3 wide in the early stages was permitted to stride forward and assume the lead passing the 850m. BEST DANCE YET – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. PARIS ROCK – When questioned, jockey D. Thornton advised that the filly travelled strongly in the early and middle stages, however when asked for a response in the straight failed to respond and proved disappointing. Trainer H. Dwyer expressed his disappointment in the performance adding though that the horse has trialled on a similar surface since travelling to Queensland and had been disappointing on this occasion also. Stewards considered whether it would be appropriate to require the horse to trial officially however given that this was the horse’s first start on a rain affected surface, took no further action. Mr Dwyer indicted that he would report anything which came to light in the coming days which may explain today’s performance, and also if the horse performs similarly next start consideration would be given to end the horse’s current preparation. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities, and a swab sample was taken. Race 6: Caloundra RSL Class 1 H’cap – 1400m RIPPIN ‘N’ TEARIN – Change of tactics. Connections advised the gelding would be ridden forward from the wide gate. The horse was ridden accordingly. FIGHTING TEO - Change of tactics. Connections advised the gelding would be ridden more forward from the wide barrier. The horse was ridden in the second half of he field. Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of the horse. After taking evidence from jockey D. Browne and trainer Mr K. Kemp, the matter was adjourned to a date to be fixed. TOTAL MERI – Jockey L. Cassidy reported his mount blundered on jumping away and lost ground. Raced wide. CAVALLI – Slow to begin. ASTRONOMIC – Slow to begin. INDY SHOWGIRL – Overraced in the early stages. LUCKY FEELING – Overraced badly in the early stages and had to be checked from heels near the 900m. DREAM CAPTAIN – Raced wide without cover. RED COLOUR – Stewards questioned trainer Mr L. Ross regarding the improved performance. He indicated that the filly appreciated the step up in distance to 1400m, adding at its most recent starts riders had been instructed to lead if possible, however over shorter distances this had not been achievable, and felt being able to obtain the lead today and dictate the pace in a longer race was the explanation for the improved performance. Race 7: Impact Floors Winter Prov. Sprinters Series (Heat) Benchmark 75 H’cap – 1200m PRIORITISE – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. MARSEILLE EN FLEUR – Slow to begin. Tightened for room near the 1000m and had to be steadied. SUPER SUAVE – Passing the 1400m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of the weakening MADLUCE MISSILE. ALASKAN WOLF – Raced 3 wide with cover. MADLUCE MISSILE – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
