Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred following the running of Race 9.  After taking evidence from trainer Mr John Zielke and Mr Darryl Hansen, Mr Hansen  pleaded guilty to a charge  under AR175(q)  in that he did speak  in a derogatory manner towards licensed trainer Mr Zielke  using inappropriate language in the enclosure in the vicinity of racing participants. Mr Hansen was fined the sum of $1000.

Race 1: Stanley River Thoroughbreds Class 6 Plate – 1000m

MISTOFFELEES  - Jumped awkwardly,  dislodging jockey M. Hellyer shortly after the start.  Jockey Hellyer was subsequently examined by the doctor and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.

REBEL MISS – Change of tactics. To be ridden more forward if circumstances permit.  Jumped awkwardly and then was prevented from being ridden forward due to the riderless horse to his inside shifting out. Raced wide without cover.

PEEKING ROAD – Slow to begin. At the request of the trainer was examined by the veterinary surgeon following the event with no abnormalities reported.

LUCY ROSE – Jumped awkwardly.

VICTORY EIGHT – Hampered shortly after the start by the riderless  MISTOFFELEES.

REAL EGO – Inconvenienced by the riderless MISTOFFELEES approaching the 900m. Raced wide with cover.

Race 2: Ubet QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1000m

ANOTHER SIN – Struck its head in transit to the course. Examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.  When asked to comment on the overall performance, jockey M. Walker indicated he had been instructed to lead, however did not have sufficient pace to do so and settled just behind the leaders. He indicated whilst the horse travelled comfortably, it did not travel strongly,  and when asked to improve  to the inside of BERAHT in the early stages of the home straight was reluctant to do so  before shying  out across that horse’s heels near the 300m.  He added the gelding raced somewhat field shy throughout the event and he recommended to connections to consider removing the blinkers for its next start. He added the horse only found the line fairly.

RHYTHM OF LIGHT – Slow to begin.

MAGIC LAD – Slow to begin.

ENVY OF ALL – Jumped awkwardly. Jockey J. Lloyd reported his mount was inclined to lay in during the early stages of the home straight, resulting in him  being placed on heels and at a disadvantage.

PROM QUEEN – Bumped on the hind quarters soon after the start.

COOROI CHASE – Hampered on jumping away.

CARRY ON RINGO – Jumped away awkwardly.

BLUEBROOK – Obliged to alter course inside the 100m to obtain clear running.

VOULAIT – Laid in under pressure in the straight. Raced wide without cover.

BASARA – Raced wide.

BRING IT HOME POP  - Stewards questioned jockey D. Browne in relation to the riding and performance of the horse.  When asked if he had considered leading on the colt he indicated the intention had always been to ride forward, however when BERAHT was ridden extremely aggressively to the outside he elected to take a sit behind that runner where the horse travelled comfortably despite hanging out slightly on the home turn, however failed to run on under pressure in the straight.  Trainer D. Hansen and jockey Browne agreed that the horse would perform more favourably after a gelding operation. Mr Hansen indicated he would discuss this option with the owners in the coming days.

Race 3: Bracken Ridge Tavern The Phoenix 2yo Listed – 1600m

The start was delayed when  MISS SARA required farrier attention in the enclosure, and further delayed due to  the tongue-tie having to be refitted on MISS LOUISANA.

SOKUDO –  Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. When asked to comment on the performance, which was below market expectations, jockey C. Brown stated that after being slowly away he was placed further back in the field  then he had intended, and during the early and middle stages of the race when the pace was only steady, the colt overraced and, in his opinion, this had a detrimental effect on its finishing effort. He indicated that, in his opinion, the horse may not run out a strong  1600m.    A post race veterinary examination revealed a mucus discharge in both nostrils and increased lung sounds. Trainer P. Snowden advised he would have the horse scoped and would report the results to stewards.

ULTIMATE RING – Slow to begin.

PATSYS LASS – Bumped by another runner at the start and lost ground.

A MAN TO MATCH – Forced out to a  3 wide position near the 1200m, and raced 3 wide without cover from that point onwards. Jockey M. Du Plessis reported his mount raced very greenly throughout and laid in badly in the home straight, placing him at a disadvantage.

YAMAZAKI – Trainer C. Anderson reported in light of today’s performance the horse would be sent for  spell.

MISS SARA – Lost its off hind plate in running.

Race 4: Fuji Xerox Sunshine Coast Oxlade Stakes 2yo Set Weights Listed – 1200m

DON’T DOUBT LARA – Slow to begin. Near the 250m was obliged to alter course to avoid the weakening SUPERSONIC BOOM.

GRANNY RED SHOES – Slow to begin.  Obliged to alter course to secure clear running approaching the 200m after being disappointed for a run.

SIENNA ROSE – Hampered on jumping away. Jockey P. Hammersley confirmed his disappointment in the performance and could offer no explanation.  Trainer S. O’Dea advised that the horse would likely be sent for a spell,  and in light of today’s performance he would report back to stewards if anything came to light in the coming days that may have had a bearing on today’s performance.

PERFECT AIM – Jumped away awkwardly. Approaching the 900m was placed in restricted room  and had to be steadied when racing between MAGIC FOX , which shifted out, and PENNINO, which shifted in.  Jockey T. Brooker, rider of PENNINO, was advised in similar circumstances she would be expected to exercise more care. Raced 3 wide without cover.

SUPERSONIC BOOM – Overraced when being restrained to obtain cover near the 900m.  When asked to comment on the performance of the horse, which weakened in the home straight, jockey M. Du Plessis indicated that, in his opinion, the horse raced like a horse that had come to the end of its preparation. He added that the gelding laid in badly when entering the home straight and was making an abnormal respiratory noise when under pressure.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg.  Stewards advised trainer R. Lipp  that in light of jockey Du Plessis’s comments he would be required to provide the results of an endoscopic examination and veterinary certificate  prior to its next race start.

SPIRIT’S CHOICE – Rider apprentice R. Goldsbury reported the horse laid in under pressure in the home straight.

AXELLA – Raced wide.

CLOCKWISE – Trainer M. Webb reported that in light of today’s performance the filly would now be sent for a spell.

GALLIC CHIEFTAIN – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

TRADESMAN – Overraced when being restrained to obtain cover passing the winning post on the first occasions.

SMART AS YOU THINK –  Over the concluding stages was steadied when placed in restricted room between runners. Jockey J. Orman reported that it had not been his intention to race in a forward  position, however when the pace was only steady passing the 1600m and his mount was overracing he elected to shift wider and improve around the field to obtain a position outside the lead passing the 1100m.

Race 6: Sunshine Coast Honda Lightning H’cap  Quality No Claims Listed  – 1000m

NICOF – Slow to begin.

PROMPT RETURN – Raced wide without cover. Steward questioned jockey J. Lloyd regarding the tactics adopted on the horse in that he steadied out of the barriers  and rode the horse in a rearward position in today’s event, which was in contrast to the horse’s racing pattern.  Jockey Lloyd indicated that from the wide alley he had been instructed to restrain from the barriers and attempted to obtain cover and rode the horse neutral out of the barriers.  He added  that the horse overraced in the middle stages and was very disappointing in the run to the line.  He was of the opinion that riding the horse in this fashion was not beneficial to its chances in the race in hindsight. Stewards also interviewed stable representative Mr T. Edmonds who indicated that despite leading,  it had not been the stable’s intention to lead at the horse’s most recent start and therefore they had not given consideration  to approaching stewards to advise of a change in tactics.  Stewards nevertheless believed that a change in tactics had occurred Mr T.Edmonds, as agent for trainer Mr Toby  Edmonds, was found guilty of a charge under AR135A, in that he failed to advise stewards that the horse would not be ridden forward in today’s event which was an alteration as the horse had led at its most recent start, which was at the Gold Coast on 5 May.  Mr Edmonds was  subsequently fined $300.  Mr T. Edmonds was reprimanded for his conduct during the inquiry.

Race 7:  Ubet Moreton Cup SW+P No Claims Group 2 – 1200m

On return to scale a protest was lodged by J. Byrne, rider of the 3rd placegetter,  CALANDA, against PATINUM ANGEL being declared 2nd, alleging interference in the home straight.  After considering the evidence and the stewards footage,  stewards were satisfied that whilst PLATINIUM ANGEL had shifted out under pressure and initiated minor contact with CALANDA, they were not satisfied that any interference suffered to CALANDA was not sufficient to alter the placings and therefore the protest was dismissed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.
