EQUAL BALANCE – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced four wide without cover.

SCALLOPINI – Slow to begin. Raced five wide without cover. Stewards interviewed apprentice B. Thornton regarding his riding of the gelding, which raced five wide throughout the event. Apprentice Thornton indicated that he felt his ride was poorly judged in that after being slow to begin, in hindsight, he should have restrained quickly from the barriers and obtained a position closer to the fence. He indicated that at the time he felt he would be able to obtain a position midfield with cover, however when EQUAL BALANCE and BEAU GESTE did not shift closer to the fence in the early stages, he was caught wide outside those horses’ heels, and when approaching the 800m felt that he would not improve his mount’s chances by steadying and losing further ground to obtain a position closer to the fence. Stewards agreed that with hindsight apprentice Thornton’s ride lacked judgement, however the decision not to restrain immediately out of the barriers was not so unreasonable as to hold him culpable under the rules and therefore no further action was taken.

COLOSIMO – Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and then was held up for clear running from the 200m until leaving the 100m.

WINTER BRIDE – Raced three wide without cover.

SHEIKHA – Jumped away awkwardly. T. Harrison dropped her whip near the 300m.

ITALIA BELLA – After rider L. Tarrant reported that his mount became awkward in its action in the early stages of the home straight and weakened over the concluding stages, the horse underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no significant findings. Stewards will follow up with trainer S. Kendrick in coming days regarding the horse’s post-race recovery.
