IT’SALKAY – Stewards ordered the late scratching of this horse at 12.24 pm  when it was established that the horse which was presented was not in fact IT’SALKAY.  Stewards opened an inquiry into the circumstances and after taking evidence from trainer K. Loy and owner Mr D. Pleasance, stewards adjourned the matter to a date to be fixed.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by apprentice M. Murphy, rider of the 2nd placegetter, HOT SOCK, against  MYWIFESAIDNO being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 300m.   After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards patrol video, it was established that HOT SOCK had obtained a position to the inside of JUSTDINI and to the outside of MYWIFESAIDNO, which then shifted out to obtain clear running, and in doing so caused HOT SOCK to be tightened onto the hind quarters of JUSTDINI and to be checked, losing significant ground.    Stewards were satisfied that the ground lost was more significant than the neck margin between the 2 horses at the conclusion of the event, and as such upheld the objection and gave correct weight on the revised placings:  No. 7 – Hot Sock – 1st    No. 2 – MYWIFESAIDNO – 2nd   No. 4 – STARBUSTER – 3rd    No. 6 – RETAIRIUS – 4th.

At a subsequent inquiry, M. Hellyer, rider of MYWIFESAIDNO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that after being disappointed for a run approaching the 300m, he directed his mount out when not sufficiently clear of HOT SOCK, which had improved to the outside of MYWIFESAIDNO, resulting in HOT SOCK being taken out and being tightened on to the hind quarters of JUSTDINI, resulting in HOT SOCK having to be checked near the 300m. Jockey Hellyer was suspended from riding in races for  period of cover by 9 race meetings, to  commence at midnight 29 July and to expire at midnight, 8 August 2018.
