Supplementary Report
 
From SCTC, 5.8.18 - Race 4
 
Mark Currie, as the authorised representative for trainer Ben Currie, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR135A, and was fined $200 in that Mr Currie failed to notify stewards of a change of tactics for the gelding GREY WOLF, which he had provided  jockey N. Tomizawa.
 
Race 5
 
Trainer C. Anderson reported to stewards that upon returning to his stables, VAULTING AMBITION was found to have blood from one nostril and as such Mr Anderson was advised that the horse must gallop 1000m before stewards prior to its next race start.

From Doomben, 28.7.18 – Race 3
 
Trainer C. White advised stewards  that Supercraft suffered a hairline fracture to its off side hind splint bone. Subsequently this injury will not require surgery, however the gelding has been sent for a spell.

Race 1: Sky Racing Class 2 H‘cap – 2400m
 
THE ZOFF – Lost its bubble cheeker in running and laid in from the 600m onwards. Also lost its near fore plate in running.
 
KASTANOS – Whilst weakening near the 200m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room. Trainer C. Anderson reported at scale the horse was found to have its tongue over the bit, which may have been the explanation for the poor performance.
 
CHECKMATE LAD – Stewards questioned apprentice S. Lacy regarding the tactics adopted on her mount. Of concern to stewards was whether apprentice Lacy had opportunity to obtain clear running firstly approaching the 800m prior to CHOPPA coming back to the field after having led by a significant margin, and as to whether she had opportunity to shift SHE EXCITES wider approaching the home turn in an attempt to secure a position outside KASTANOS. Apprentice Lacy explained that she gave consideration to pressuring her horse approaching the 800m to improve forward of KASTANOS and shift that horse wider to obtain a position outside the lead, however given this was horse’s first start over 2400m, she felt that it would be detrimental to her mount’s chances when racing that far from the finish.  She also stated she attempted to shift SHE EXCITES (M. Cahill) wider on the track approaching the home turn, however jockey Cahill held his line, and after positioning her horse behind KASTANOS, she believed that horse was not travelling well and elected to shift back to the inside. She added that when momentarily obtaining clear running after passing the 300m she did pressure her mount, however the horse did not respond as she had anticipated, and she was then further obliged to steady when THE ZOFF shifted in, causing her to be disappointed for clear running. She added in hindsight that given she had been ultimately held up for clear running until the 150m, she believed it would have been a better option to shift wider approaching the 800m.  Stewards agreed with apprentice Lacy’s assessment, however her decision not to improve at that point could not be deemed unreasonable and therefore took no action in the circumstances.
 
 
Race 2: Sky Thoroughbred Central QTIS 3yo Benchmark 65 H‘cap – 1400m
 
REAL ESTATE – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 12.10 am after the horse was found to have a laceration to its off-side eye upon arrival on course.
 
HOT SOCK – After being fractious in the barriers, reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground.  Trainer R. Heathcote’s representative was advised that a barrier certificate must be provided prior to the gelding racing again.
 
BACCARAT BABY – Overraced in the early stages, until approaching the 800m.
 
 
Race 3: Skyracing.com.au Maiden H‘cap – 1400m
 
BUXTON – Underwent a veterinary examination after QRIC IIT officers reported to stewards that the horse  was found to have a haematoma on the nearside of its neck. The gelding was cleared to start.    Trainer M. Webb provided evidence that the horse had had  blood tests performed approximately 10 days ago and this was the cause of the haematoma.  The veterinary surgeon provided further evidence which supported the evidence of trainer Mark Webb and no further action was taken.
 
NOTONYA NELLY – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
 
NINE CIGARS – Raced 3 wide without cover.
 
LIBERATION LAD – Raced wide. Overraced approaching the first turn and shifted wider without cover from the 800m onwards. Jockey M. Hellyer reported that his saddle slipped shortly after the start, placing him at a disadvantage.
 
SID – Lost its off-hind plate in running.
 
 
Race 4: Sky Harness Benchmark 75 H‘cap – 1200m
 
ROTHABYE – Due to transport difficulties,  apprentice C. Gallagher was unable to fulfil his engagement on the horse and was replaced by apprentice T. Marshall  as the rider of the horse.  Forced 3 wide for a short distance after passing the 800m.
 
DRUMBEAT’S CHOICE – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
 
TOTALLY CHARMED – Whilst overracing hung out passing the 800m turn, forcing another runner wider on the track.
 
RISING STOCK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
JUNCTION – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 5: Sky 1 Class 3 H‘cap  - 1000m
 
POSTMASTER GENERAL – Slow to begin.  Obliged to alter course to secure clear running near the 250m.
 
MR WIND – Slow to begin.  Laid out from the 400m onwards.  When asked to comment on the performance of the horse, jockey J. Orman stated his mount was slow to begin and therefore settled further back in the field than he would have liked.  He confirmed the horse laid out under pressure in the home straight and he was disappointed with the overall  performance.
 
WAKE UP SAILOR – Overraced from the 700m until leaving the 600m. Lost its off hind plate in running.
 
FORT MYER – Raced wide without cover.
 
BRILEE ROSE – Raced wide.
 
 
 
Race 6: Sky Maiden H‘cap  - 1000m
 
CLUB SODA – Kicked by another runner behind the barriers. Underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.  Whilst racing greenly passing the 800m shifted in and blundered after clipping the heels of LOTS OF PROMISE. Raced wide without cover.
 
TREZORO – Slow to begin. Momentarily steadied near the 450m.
 
FROM NOW – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Inconvenienced approaching the 400m.  Raced greenly throughout the event.
 
AZIZ JAMIL COUREUR – Near the 700m was obliged to steady whilst racing in restricted room. After passing the 500m was obliged to steady and shift out to avoid heels. Had some difficulty securing clear running in the home straight.
 
HENRY’S AFFAIR – Hung out until entering the home straight.
 
FIONNLAGH – Raced greenly throughout the event, and when racing in restricted room passing the 500m overreacted to being steadied and lost significant ground.   
 
SOLDIERS – Jockey R. Wiggins reported  his mount race greenly throughout.
 
GEM OF THE LOCHS – Jockey T. Harrison reported that it had been her intention to ride the horse in a more forward position, however the mare failed to muster speed in the early stages despite her urgings.
 
 
Race 7: Sky Racing Replays Class 1 H‘cap – 1600m
 
RED BALTER – Reared up in the barriers and became cast. Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice with the following deductions applicable.  
 
3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
2 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets for the place
4 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
4 cents in the dollar on the face value 3rd place bets.
 
Connections were advised that  a barrier certificate must be obtained prior to its next race start.
 
MR DUMONT – As this gelding was in the adjoining stall to RED BALTER when it became fractious, was examined by the veterinary surgeon  and cleared to start. Overraced in the early stages. Bumped by another runner passing the 400m.
 
GOLDEN VALLEY – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
SECRET AGENT MAN – Stewards questioned jockey M. Hellyer regarding the tactics adopted on the horse as he sat outside the lead three-quarters of a length in front in the middle stages when it appeared there had been opportunity to settle without contesting the lead. He indicated it had not been his intention to lead and that his instructions had been to attempt to obtain cover as the horse had overraced at its most recent start.  Trainer W. Hulbert confirmed the instructions and also added that today’s gear change of blinkers off/winkers on was an attempt to have the horse settle in the race. Jockey Hellyer stated  that after he was unable to obtain cover the horse overraced badly until approaching  the 1100m, where he elected to allow the horse  more rein in order to attempt to have SECRET AGENT MAN  travel more favourably. Trainer Mr Hulbert was satisfied with the options taken by jockey Hellyer, and in light of the horse’s recent racing pattern advised he would now send the horse  for a spell, and in its next preparation would restrict its races to shorter distances.
 
JOEL – Lost its off hind plate in running.
 
 
Race 8: Skyracing.com.au Benchmark 65 H‘cap  - 1400m
 
SHOCKFACTOR – Slow to begin.
 
MACHU PICCHU – Commenced to overraced shortly after the start resulting in the saddle shifting up over its wither, placing apprentice H. English at a distinct disadvantage.
 
HUSSON’S PRIDE – Inclined to hang out from the 800m until entering the home straight.  Near the 600m was bumped by another runner and forced wider on the track.  Stewards will draw this incident to the attention of R. Maloney, rider of WHODUNNIT.
 
CHOREOGRAPH – Shifted out to improve near the 600m and in doing so made contact with another runner.
 
THREE POINTS – Forced to alter course on a number on a number of occasions in the home straight to secure clear running.
 
LIMBO STAR – Steadied approaching the 400m.  R. Maloney, rider of WHODUNNIT, was advised to exercise more care. Raced wide without cover.
