Race 1: Australis Roofing Maiden Plate – 2200m

I KNOW YVES – A prerace veterinary examination of the horse, which spent a considerable period of time in traffic en route to the track, cleared the gelding to race.  Bumped with another runner on a number of occasions passing the 2000m. Overraced when passing the 1700m and as a result shifted wider on the track and was permitted to stride forward to a position  outside the lead passing the 1300m.

JANEMY – Blundered on jumping away. Bumped with another runner on a number of occasions passing the 2000m. Shifted out near the 600m to improve and in doing so inconvenienced another runner.

MCCULLOUGH – Hung out for a short distance passing the 1800m.

KAZ BAR RUBY – Overraced passing the 1000m and shifted to a 3-wide position as a result and raced wide without cover from that point onwards.

SHIELD WALL - A prerace veterinary examination of the horse, which spent a considerable period of time in traffic en route to the track, cleared the gelding to race.

CLAIRVUE SPIRIT – Overraced in the early stages.

EXPERT REPLY – Which had a tendency to overrace, improved into a tight run near the 850m and had to be steadied.

Race 4: Logic Energy Class 1 H’cap – 1000mm

WOOKIE – Declared a late scratching at 3.17 pm on veterinary advice when the gelding was found to be lame in the off foreleg. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:

25 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
39 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets for the place
28 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
39 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets

Trainer L. Birchley was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.

I DREAM OF GREEN – Jumped extremely awkwardly as the start was effected and made heavy contact with the barrier partition, almost dislodged jockey McGillivray and injuring his right knee. Jockey McGillivray was therefore unable to fully test his mount throughout the event and this had an effect on the horse’s overall performance.  Following the event jockey McGillivray was assessed by the club’s doctor and stood down from his remaining engagements.  Stewards advised jockey McGillivray he would be required to have x-rays performed and provide a doctor’s certificate prior to riding again.

TEYSSIER – Slow to begin.

BARD OF ARMAGH – Placed in restricted room over the concluding stages and  had to be steadied.

SHE’S A MITZY – Jockey T. Williams was fined $300 for using her whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. Stewards questioned trainer Mrs C. Hickey regarding the improved performance. She indicated the horse was slow to begin at its most recent start and was unable therefore to obtain the lead which, in her opinion, the horse races bests when able to lead.  She felt that this had a detrimental effect on the horse’s performance. Mrs Hickey further added that she had slightly changed the horse’s training regime in the lead up to today’s event.

Race 5: Raz Roofing QTIS 3yo Fillies Maiden H’cap - 1000m

COURAGEOUS CHLOE –  Blundered in the enclosure prior to the event. Underwent a veterinary examination and  was cleared to take its place in the field.

MASSABIELLE – As jockey B. Thornton was indisposed, S. Lacy was substituted as the rider of the horse. Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

MISS AMUR –  Stewards asked jockey R. Wiggins to comment on the performance of the horse. He indicated after not beginning well he elected to take hold to take up a trailing position from the wide alley. He stated the horse was very green throughout the event and he was obliged to place pressure on his mount  in order to remain in contact with the main body of the field. He added the horse did commence to make ground in the home straight under pressure and after being forced to shift ground near the 150m in order to secure clear running he was then obliged to steady  off heels of another runner, which shifted ground. He added the horse would take benefit from today’s run and would appreciate a step up in distance as it was doing its best work over the concluding stages.

TOP EVIE – Slow to begin.

DOLLY SPARTAN – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.  Obliged to alter course in the early stages of the home straight to obtain clear running.
