HARLEIGH – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

MADAM MAHAL – Fractious in the barriers and jumped away very awkwardly, interfering with other runners to the outside. A warning was placed on the horse’s barrier manners.

STONEFISH – Inconvenienced on jumping away and lost ground.

Race 4: JIM BEAM DOUBLE SERVE C,G&E CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

RAISE AN ARMY, which was fractious in the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching at 2:21 pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice that the gelding had sustained a laceration to the nearside hock. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on RAISE AN ARMY be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2:21 pm:

29 cents in the dollar for the win #6
27 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6
31 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2

BILL THE CONQUEROR – Had difficulty securing clear running from the home turn until approaching the 200m.

Race 5: JIM BEAM RYE F&M CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

Trainer M. Mair was fined $100 for failing to declare apprentice T. Williams as the rider of GEM OF THE LOCHS by the prescribed time.

MOSAQUA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the near hind tendon, consistent with being galloped on. R. Wiggins was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

GEM OF THE LOCHS – Apprentice T. Williams reported to stewards that she had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position, however, despite her urgings in the early stages the horse was unable to muster any early speed and she was obliged to settle in the second half of the field and the horse, in her opinion, was disappointing over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

VIENNA MOON – After being held up in the early stages of the home straight, shifted out near the 300m in an attempt to secure clear running and in doing so made contact on a number of occasions with another runner and became unbalanced.

Trainer T. Edmonds was fined $100 for failing to declare M. Du Plessis as the rider of CAP GRIS NEZ by the prescribed time.

HIGH CHIEF – Hung out from the 800m, gradually shifting wider on the track, and took no competitive part in the event from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings, however the veterinary surgeon noted that the horse had had a previous knee injury. Trainer B. Lockwood was advised that, prior to racing again, the horse must officially trial on two occasions and would require a veterinary clearance.

MIGHTY HEART – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages.

ACEME – Raced wide throughout.

CAP GRIS NEZ – M. Du Plessis reported that it had not been his intention to lead and he would have preferred to allow another runner to cross his mount in the early stages in order to obtain cover.

LADY JEUNE – Lost the near hind plate in running.

Race 7: CANADIAN CLUB CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1400M

CRUZE – Raced three wide after leaving the 800m.

BEAT THE BEAST – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

GOLDEN MEAN – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden in a more forward position than at its most recent start. The horse was ridden in a position three wide outside the lead without cover, then weakened in the home straight. M. Hellyer, when asked to comment on the horse’s performance, indicated that from the 700m the filly did not travel comfortably and was very disappointing over the concluding stages. Trainer D. Vandyke confirmed his disappointment in the performance and indicated that he would be likely to add blinkers again to the horse’s gear prior to its next start and also gave an undertaking to report to stewards anything that may come to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

BRUTAL BABE – Restrained from the barrier in order to secure a position at the tail of the field closer to the fence.

After riding in this race M. Du Plessis was stood down from his remaining engagement in Race 8 by the Club doctor.

Race 8: CANADIAN CLUB SPICED CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1200M

BAREFOOT TYCOON – Although the horse was advertised as racing with pacifiers on as a gear change, the gelding raced only in blinkers as trainer D. Fletcher did not have a set of blinkers and pacifiers. A public announcement was made to this effect. Stewards will contact Racing Australia in relation to the advertising of this gear change.

CALYPSO BAY – Obliged to alter course near the 200m to secure clear running.

TWILIGHT MANEUVER – Obliged to race in restricted room and was steadied approaching the 100m.
