A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. Race 5: Higgins Coatings Class 1 H’cap – 1000m ROGUE DRUMMER – Slow to begin, then hampered shortly after the start, losing ground. ELEGANT ZOUS – Jumped in the air as the start was effected and lost ground. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey D. Griffin indicated that after beginning awkwardly the horse was unable to race on the pace and, in his opinion, this had a detrimental effect on the overall performance. He further added he did not feel the filly was comfortable in the rain-affected conditions. RICHETTI – When the pace slackened leaving the 700m commenced to overrace on heels and clipped heels near the 500m, blundering as a result. Continued to overrace until leaving the 400m. LOTS OF PROMISE – After passing the 400m when placed under pressure laid in badly, placing its rider at a disadvantage. Returned to scale with blood in both nostrils. As this was the first occasion the mare has bled, it will now be barred from racing for a period of 3 months, and must gallop 1000m before stewards prior to its next race start. TRIPLE WON – Raced extremely wide throughout. MOSAQUA – A post race veterinary examination revealed a significant laceration to the near hind fetlock, consistent with having been galloped on. AHMAH STAR – Overraced in the early and middle stages. MUFASTA – Shifted wider at the 700m and raced wide from that point onwards. SLENDER MAN – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. SKY ONE – Stewards questioned jockey C. Bayliss as to his positioning of the gelding, which led in today’s event, which was in contrast to its most recent racing pattern. Apprentice Bayliss indicated that prior to the start he had anticipated settling in a position behind the lead, however the horse began well and he was able to cross the runner to his immediate inside without overly pressuring his mount, and had anticipated allowing another runner to cross to the lead to obtain a trailing position, however this did not eventuate and he felt he established a steady tempo throughout. Stewards, after viewing the footage, accepted the explanation. Race 8: Culgoa Resort Noosa Class 1 H’cap – 1400m AMAZINGLY – Significantly slow to begin after being fractious in the barriers. Shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so was steadied from heels passing the 400m. I’M JUST PINK – Steadied from heels after passing the 1300m when shifting in to obtain a position closer to the fence. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare was lame in its near foreleg. Trainer R. Wilson was advised that a veterinary clearance must be supplied prior to the mares next race start. NINE CIGARS – Raced wide without cover. VENI VIDI VICI – Raced wide. Stewards questioned trainer J. Aitkenhead regarding the improved performance. She indicated that prior to last start the horse had been racing well, however at its most recent start the mare settled in a more forward position and overraced badly in the early and middle stages and had to be steadied from heels, as documented in the Stewards Report. She added that, in her opinion, the horse did not handle the tight turning Gatton track last start, and she had expected a forward showing in today’s event. POSITIVE SPIN – Overraced in the early stages. Raced wide. MEYIWA HITAM MAWAR – Jockey S. Cormack was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
