GENERAL

As J. Lloyd was not riding due to illness, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: ILANDSCAPE QTIS 2YO C&G MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

DUANE – After being fractious in the float en route to the track the horse underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which cleared the colt to start. A further veterinary examination after arriving at the barriers also cleared the horse to race.

LUCKY SENATOR – Placed in restricted room near the 800m and had to be steadied after being bumped by SAYS WHO, which was racing greenly at the time. Trainer J. Judge reported that the horse will be sent for a spell following today’s event.

POETIC CHOICE – Raced wide throughout without cover.

SAYS WHO – Slow to begin. Raced very greenly and bumped another runner near the 800m, and continued to race greenly, particularly under pressure in the home straight, and was obliged to steady from heels near the 500m.

Whilst being restrained on pulling up WHISKEY ARCHER collapsed after passing the 1800m mark. The horse was attended to by the veterinary surgeon who declared that the gelding was deceased. Urine and blood samples were taken from the gelding and the horse was subsequently transported to the Gatton University for a post-mortem to be carried out. Evidence was taken from trainer Paul Butterworth regarding the horse’s history and also from jockey Taylor Marshall regarding the circumstances of the horse collapsing and the horse’s traits during the event. Jockey Marshall gave evidence that the horse had not travelled comfortably at any stage of the event, which he at the time felt could be attributed to the soft racing surface. He also indicated that it was only a short distance prior to the horse collapsing that he became concerned for its wellbeing.

Race 2: TYREWISE QTIS 2YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

BLUE CORNER – Slow to begin, then tightened for room and had to be steadied. Raced greenly throughout.

HONEY BABY – Raced greenly in the early stages, commenced to overrace passing the 600m and had to be steadied from heels approaching the 500m.

JEWELIANA – Lost the near hind plate in running.

TISANI ROSE – Slow to begin. Raced very greenly throughout. Obliged to alter course abruptly leaving the 200m to avoid heels.

WINDCHILL – Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight and was obliged to alter course near the 150m to avoid heels.

ZAVY’S HOPE – Slow to begin.

Race 3: COMPUTER CUT OPEN H’CAP – 1000M

HARD STRIDE – When asked to explain the horse’s seemingly improved performance from that of its most recent start, trainer J. Judge indicated that the gelding overraced on that occasion and he believed that it appreciated the step back in distance to the 1000m of today’s event.

TEEROYS TRIBUTE – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

DAM WONDERFUL – Underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers at the request of the rider and was cleared to race. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

The track was upgraded to SOFT 6 following the running of Race 3.

Race 4: REVOLUTION AUTOMOTIVE MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M

The start of this race was delayed due to holding for an interstate race in progress.

BAY SHOT – Bumped heavily on jumping and became awkward. Forced wider by another runner approaching the 600m and made the home turn very wide as a result.

NETHERLANDS – Bumped on jumping.

HE’S THE DEEL – Raced wide without cover.

MONASHEE RIDGE – Jumped away very awkwardly and made heavy contact with another runner. Raced greenly and laid in under pressure throughout the event. Trainer K. Stabe was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for its barrier and racing manners.

TARIO TARIO – Bumped heavily on jumping and became awkward.

MIZ MACEY – Hung out from leaving the 700m and made the home turn very wide as a result.. Trainer L. Stratton was advised that the mare will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official trial before being permitted to race again. Ms Stratton indicated that consideration would be given to sending the mare for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

HIGHLAND REBEL – Slow to begin.

HURRICANE LOVE – Tightened for room shortly after the start and had to be checked. Raced wide throughout.

AROSEFORZOU – Slow to begin. Overraced in the middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly was heat stressed on return to the enclosure.

Race 5: SELECTLOK CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1600M

ETIKAAL – Bumped at the start by another runner and lost ground. M. Hellyer reported that he was disappointed with the performance of his mount, however he could offer no tangible explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. Trainer A. Willick was at a loss to explain the performance and indicated that she would have blood samples taken and tested in the coming days and report the findings to stewards.

STAR MAJOR – Slow to begin.

INVERARAY – Shifted wider at the 700m to improve, bumped by another runner shortly afterwards and raced wide from that point onwards.

RED FLYER – Slow to begin. Raced wide until the 950m.

RUBY RED SLIPPERS – Jumped awkwardly, inconveniencing another runner.

Race 6: CALOUNDRA AFL PAST PLAYERS BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1000M

Trainer D. Hansen was fined $100 for failing to declare M. Cahill as the rider of COASTAL BOY by the prescribed time.

Prior to his mount DIDN’T MENTION IT being presented to the enclosure, it was found that jockey M. Hellyer, upon weighing out, had sent out the incorrect saddle cloth number. This was quickly rectified, however, jockey Hellyer was found guilty of negligence and fined the sum of $100.

Trainer D. Vandyke was reprimanded for negligence in that he had saddled DIDN’T MENTION IT with the incorrect saddle cloth number. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account that jockey Hellyer had provided Mr Vandyke with the incorrect saddle cloth number and also that Mr Vandyke had not presented the horse to the enclosure with the incorrect saddle cloth.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to ascertain whether COASTAL BOY and WANNA BLUE had been afforded fair starts. After viewing the patrol footage, stewards were satisfied that COASTAL BOY jumped very awkwardly, almost dislodging M. Cahill, and lost significant ground. WANNA BLUE reared as the start was effected, causing its head to strike the head of rider L. Tarrant, who suffered a facial injury. As a result the horse missed the start significantly and took no competitive part in the event, however stewards deemed that it had been afforded a fair start. Stewards advised S. Kendrick, the trainer of WANNA BLUE, that the horse must obtain a further barrier certificate, and D. Hansen, the trainer of COASTAL BOY, that a warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners. Following the event jockey Tarrant was examined by the Club’s doctor and cleared of any significant injuries, however, jockey Tarrant was advised that he must provide a medical clearance and complete an after-injury cognitive test prior to riding again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that WANNA BLUE had sustained a laceration to the near hind leg.

BARNSLEY – Placed in restricted room near the 700m and had to be steadied. Held up for a short distance passing the 500m.

COURAGEOUS ROCK – Held up rounding the home turn.

DIDN’T MENTION IT – Held up rounding the home turn.

DOOM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

TEAGZ – Raced four wide without cover.

PAT KASH – Raced wide throughout.

Race 7: CALOUNDRA AFL PANTHERS QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1200M

HOLD THE LINE – Overraced in the early stages.

SOARING HEART – Fractious in the barriers, reared as the start was effected and missed the start by a considerable distance. Trainer P. Duff was advised that the gelding must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.

ENTERPRISE LOUISE – Obliged to alter course approaching the 100m to secure clear running.

Race 8: CALOUNDRA AFL PANTHERS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

BLUE COMET – Slow to begin.

HEART OF KINGS – Overraced in the early stages.

FEARLESS QUEEN – Slow to begin.

SMOOTH CELEBRATION – Raced wide from the 700m. Apprentice T. Williams was for fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

TINDER – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

TOP GLAMOUR – Slow to begin.
