Clerk of Scales – K. Daly
Judge – P. Chilton, W. Ellis

General

As R. Wiggins was ill, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 1: Pub Mooloolaba Class 4 H’cap – 1800m

ROMAN DOLL – Tightened for room at the start.

RAINS APLENTY – Tightened for room at the start.

MINA HARKER – Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to a position outside the lead passing the 1100m. A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which weakened badly in the straight, revealed no abnormalities.  Jockey M. Cahill indicated he could not explain the performance, which he considered disappointing. He felt the horse had travelled well until after being placed under pressure and then weakened badly in the final 400m.  Stewards advised connections that the horse would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to starting again.

VOLOMITE – Was placed in restricted room when racing to the inside of MINA HARKER after passing the 1200m. Laid in near the 400m and continued to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 2: Villa Noosa Hotel Maiden H’cap – 1600m

PACIFIC CREST – Slow to begin, losing significant ground.  Shifted wider on the track passing the 1000m in order to improve and as a result raced 3 wide without cover from that point onwards.

PRINCESS MONA – Jumped away awkwardly, made heavy contact with the barrier partition and inconvenienced another runner.

MISS MELRAE – Overraced in the early stages. Whilst being held up passing the 500m improved onto heels and had to be steadied before shifting  in approaching the 400m, placing pressure on another runner. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SARA MAN – Overraced when being restrained in the early stages.

GROOVY PLAYMATE – Was placed in restricted room approaching the 400m.

Race 3: Pelican Waters Tavern Class 3 H’cap – 1000m

REMLAPS ROCK – As R. Wiggins was indisposed, S. Cormack was substituted as the rider of the  horse.

FLAME OF LIBERTY – Jumped away very awkwardly and made heavy contact with the barrier partition and lost ground.

SHE’S  A MITZY – Fractious in the barriers and was slightly slow to begin. Laid in throughout the event, particularly when under pressure in the home straight.

RABBIT HUNTER – Jumped awkwardly, making heavy contact with the barrier partition and losing ground. Had a tendency to lay out between the 800m and 400m.   Jockey S. Cormack, rider of REMLAPS ROCK, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that  after shifting  to a positon one off the fence he then allowed his mount to shift in whilst riding under heavy pressure, resulting in the horse shifting back in towards the fence, tightening the running of RABBIT HUNTER, which had improved to the inside of REMLAPS ROCK at that stage, causing the rider of that horse to check the gelding after being tightened for room.
Jockey Cormack  was suspended for a period of 9 days, to commence at midnight, 25 August and to expire at midnight, 3 September.

MISTER SPINKS – Inclined to lay in in the early stages and steadied when placed in restricted room near the 800m. Cast its near fore plate in running. Apprentice N. Keal was fined $300  for weighing in in excess of  half a kilogram  overweight.

DAN’S DREAM – Tailed off despite the urgings of its rider, finishing a distant last.  Trainer R. Wilson reported in light of today’s performance he would remove the ear muffs from the horse’s gear, which he believed had an effect on its performance. Mr Wilson was advised a warning would be placed on the performance.

RAGNOR – Held up from the 500m until approaching the 350m. Jockey J. Bayliss was fined $200 using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
