Race 1: Sky Racing Maiden Plate – 1200m

BACK THE ROCK – Slow to begin. Overraced and raced greenly in the middle stages. Checked near 200m.  Apprentice B. Nothdurft pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 200m he directed his mount in to secure clear running when not sufficiently clear of BACK THE ROCK, resulting in that horse being tightened for room and causing its rider to check her mount at that stage. Apprentice Nordurft  was suspended from riding in races for  period of 10 days, to commence at midnight, 1 September and to expire at midnight, 11 September.

DURUNDUR LAD – Jumped away very awkwardly and lost ground.

TELECOM DANEWIN – Held up rounding the home turn and until the 200m.

HEY PAL – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Had to be steadied from heels near the 900m. Improved on to heels again near the 500m and had to be steadied.

RUFF IT UP – When overracing badly in the early stages had to be steadied to avoid heels near the 850m when GETYOURGREYON shifted in. Whilst stewards accepted that the racing manners of RUFF IT UP contributed to this incident, stewards advised jockey J. Byrne, rider of GETYOURGREYON, to exercise more care in similar circumstances.  After receiving interference near the 850m continued to overrace and shifted out to avoid heel near the 700m and raced wide from that point onwards. Trainer Mr K. Kemp was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.

BRONCKS – Raced 3 wide in the early stages and shifted 4 wide to improve approaching the 600m and raced without cover.  Steadied from heels near the 800m.

Race 3: Sky Racing QTIS 3yo Fillies Maiden H’cap – 1200m

SWISS RUBY – Declared a scratching at 1.45 pm when the gelding refused to load.  Subsequent to the event all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable.

Byrne indicated the horse was somewhat field shy throughout the event and raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. He indicated that the filly would appreciate a step up in distance which would enable the horse to settle further forward, and that it  would take benefit from today’s race experience.

ZIGALLENE – Placed in restricted room near the 300m, causing its rider to stop riding for a short distance.  Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten.

CERTAIN DOUBT – Overraced in the middle stages.  Held up between the 500m and 400m.

MUSICAL BLUES – Placed in restricted room for a short distance near the 850m. Jockey McGillivray when asked to comment on the performance, which he felt was disappointing, advised  that the horse laid out throughout the event and, in his opinion, did not run out a strong 1800m. Trainer D. Vandyke advised that he would experiment with the addition of a crossover noseband to the horse’s gear and look to restrict its races to shorter distances.

LUCY LE ROC – Obliged to alter course after passing the 400m in an attempt to secure clear running and then had to be steadied to avoid heels near the 250m.

ALPINE DANCER – Overraced in the early stages and improved onto heels near the 800m and had to be checked. Checked again off heels near the 700m.

GREGORY – Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 800m.  It was found that ALPINE DANCER, whilst overracing, had galloped on GREGORY. As a result of this, GREGORY became very awkward  and apprentice S. Thornton, rider of GREGORY, elected to restrain her mount from the event as she felt the horse had suffered an injury.   A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.  Stewards considered the evidence that had been put forward by apprentice Thornton and did not believe her decision to restrain the horse from the event was unreasonable in the circumstances and took no further action.

BERING SEA -  Jockey Maloney pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift out under heavy riding in the home straight after passing the 200m and in doing so caused NAPOLEON’S WAR and  GOLDEN LILY to be inconvenienced, and then continued to shift out, resulting in ITALIA BELLA, which after shifting away from BERING SEA did have its rightful running taken and caused its rider to have to take hold to avoid the heels of ENTERPRISE PRINCE.  Jockey Maloney was suspended from riding in races for a period of 10 days, to commence at midnight, 31 August,  and to expire at midnight  10 September.

NAPOLEON’S WAR – Inconvenienced after passing the 200m.
