GENERAL
 
As M. McGillivray had been stood down by stewards and as apprentice N. Keal was not riding owing to personal circumstances, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1: RAWCS DONATIONS IN KIND F&M MAIDEN H’CAP – 1400M
 
JOY’S REWARD – Raced wide without cover.
 
CHAMPAGNE TOOTS – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, R. Stewart indicated that the tempo of the race was slower than he would have liked and that he had anticipated being a little bit further back in the field, however, felt that the horse travelled comfortably until being asked to respond approaching the home turn and did not quicken. He felt that the horse having its first run this preparation over 1400m may have had an effect but he could offer no explanation for the performance, which he felt was disappointing.
 
THE GOOD THE BAD – Jumped awkwardly and bumped another runner.
 
WURNIC – Bumped by another runner on jumping away and lost ground. Forced to steady in the early stages to avoid heels when the pace slackened. Lost the off fore plate in running.
 
MAY I SAY – A post-race veterinary examination found the horse was making an abnormal respiratory noise.
 
ELECTRIC ANNA – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 2: AUSTRALIAN ROTARY HEALTH C,G & E MAIDEN H’CAP – 1400M
 
GREY COURT – Kicked out in the barriers, removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 1:47 pm by stewards acting on veterinary advice that the horse had sustained injuries to the nearside hock. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on GREY COURT be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 1:37 pm:

IRISH SLIPPER – Slow to begin.
 
TOP ME UP AGAIN – S. Galloway advised that he had intended riding in a more forward position, however, in the early stages there were runners to the inside which showed early speed and he elected to steady and secure a position close to the fence with cover behind SOLDATI, which he considered a chance in the race. He added that when another runner improved around him approaching the 500m he elected to shift out, forcing that horse wider, and improve his horse into the race and whilst his mount responded at this point it was somewhat disappointing in the run to the line. He added that in hindsight he perhaps would have been better served to allow the horse to continue to stride forward as it overraced and was somewhat ungenerous when racing with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
BIG BUDS – Slow to begin.
 
DON’T DESPAIR – Improved on to the heels of the weakening CHILD SUPPORT after passing the 400m, was held up and as a result was steadied from heels before being obliged to shift out near the 300m to secure clear running.
 
COMOGLI – Shifted wider near the 700m to improve and raced wide without cover from that point onwards. Stewards questioned trainer S. Kendrick regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance. He indicated that the horse’s improvement could be attributed to the step up in distance, he added that he has always been of the opinion that it would be suited to longer distances and is of the view that the horse will continue to improve when stepping up to 1600m. He indicated that at the horse’s most recent start it was left flat-footed when the field quickened after passing the 600m and he was not surprised with today’s forward showing.
 
SOLDATI – Steadied from heels near the 500m.
 
CHILD SUPPORT – Lost the near fore plate in running.
 
Race 3: HALCYON CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1800M
 
ZANYETTA – Lost the near hind plate in running.
 
AKAGE – Overraced badly in the early stages and when the pace of the race commenced to slow approaching the 1400m, rider D. Griffin elected to shift to a three-wide position and improved around the field, assuming the lead passing the 1200m.
 
PICKA PLUM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight, causing its rider to stop riding on a number of occasions.
 
THE REAL SPIEL – T. Harrison was reminded of her obligations regarding excessively slowing the pace when leading.
 
Race 4: MARTIN JONKERS MOTORS QTIS 3YO BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1000M
 
CLEVER MISS – Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
SAY HAYA – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 5: RICHARDSON & WRENCH REAL ESTATE CABOOLTURE OPEN H’CAP – 1000M
 
BOLD CHANCE – When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, S. Cormack advised that his mount did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race and did not respond to his riding in the straight. He added that the horse faltered shortly after entering the home straight, but he could offer no explanation for the performance. The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse had a slow post-race recovery and that connections had advised that the horse would undergo an endoscopic examination, the results of which would be reported to stewards.
 
TISANI TOMSO – Jumped awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover. Laid in for the majority of the event, particularly over the concluding stages when under pressure.
 
LIMERICK MOON – S. Lacy was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
TREASURE GALLERY – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
Race 6: RACING AHEAD WITH TERRY LUCAS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M
 
APIDAE – Bumped heavily on the hind quarters near the 700m. Raced wide without cover.
 
INDISPENSABLE – Bumped on the hind quarters approaching the 400m.
 
HARRY’S STAR – Became awkward near the 700m after making heavy contact with the hind quarters of APIDAE and then raced four wide without cover.
 
LAMPLIGHT LILI – When attempting to shift out to secure clear running approaching the 400m, made contact with the hind quarters of INDISPENSABLE, became unbalanced and shifted back in, having to be restrained from the heels of GOHAN, which was shifting out.
 
ZEPHETTO – Obliged to race in restricted room from the 600m until approaching the 400m, then when shifting out in an attempt to secure clear running made contact with HARRY’S STAR and then was awkwardly placed at the heels of APIDAE and became unbalanced. Had to be checked over the concluding stages. E. Ljung, the rider of APIDAE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that she directed her mount out over the concluding stages when not sufficiently clear of ZEPHETTO, and when crossing that runner’s line, ZEPHETTO had to be checked to avoid the heels of APIDAE. Jockey Ljung’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 7 days, commencing midnight Saturday 14 September and expiring midnight Saturday 21 September 2019. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Ljung’s good record and deemed the degree of carelessness to be in the low range.

PLAY NOW – Blundered on jumping away.
 
Race 7: HAND HYGIENE FOR HEALTH CLASS 2 PLATE – 1400M
 
MASSTOO – Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $200 for failing to declare D. Griffin as rider by the prescribed time.
 
MASSTOO, which was kicked by another runner behind the barriers, was declared a late scratching at 4:50 pm by stewards acting on veterinary advice that the horse had sustained an injury. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on MASSTOO be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 4:50 pm:

MAKATITI – Slow to begin before being ridden aggressively to take up a position in the lead.
 
MARAKAWA – Overraced for a short distance passing the 1000m when the pace slackened before shifting out to avoid heels near the 900m.
 
OCEAN RULER – Raced greenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
STORM HARBOUR – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and had to steady near the 150m to avoid the heels of OCEAN RULER, which shifted in. M. Cahill, the rider of OCEAN RULER, was reprimanded for this incident.
 
GOLDEN LILY – Jumped awkwardly. A. Fancourt reported that her mount was reluctant to quicken in the early stages despite being ridden aggressively.
 
PARIS CRYSTAL – Raced three wide without cover. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
TOP GLAMOUR – Shifted wider near the 700m to improve and raced wide from that point onwards. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
