Race 1:  TAB Class 5 Plate – 1400m

BASTIA – When  questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, jockey M. Cahill  stated his mount failed to respond to his riding when asked for an effort over the final 400m. He  indicated he was not entirely satisfied with the horse’s action and felt it would be better suited to softer racing surfaces.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. A swab sample was taken.

Race 2: Glass FX Class 2 Plate – 1000m

CHEVY NOVA – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition, and was then tightened for room.  Laid in throughout the event and particularly under pressure in the home straight and as a result made contact with SNICKI MINAJ, near the 250m.

REMLAPS ROCK – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with VALLEY CROSSING and lost ground. When obliged to race wide was inconvenienced and had to be steadied approaching the 600m to avoid the heels of CHEVY NOVA.  Bumped and forced wider by another runner approaching the 300m. Jockey Wiggins reported  his mount, in his opinion, may be looking for races over longer distances at this stage of its preparation.

Nothdurft advised that after travelling comfortably in the early and middle stages the horse did not extend when asked for an effort in the home straight and was, in his opinion, somewhat disappointing.  Bumped by another runner near the 250m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Tregea was informed that a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners.   Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred approaching the 400m.  After taking evidence from jockey A. Fancourt, rider of WHISTLIN’ ARROW, and apprentice M. Murphy, rider of CHAMPAGNE AUNTY, it was established that when attempting to improve after passing the 500m to the inside of WHISTLIN’ ARROW, there was a slight shift inwards from WHISTLIN’ ARROW. As a result of this, apprentice Murphy called to jockey Fancourt and then elected to shift out to attempt to obtain a position outside that runner, at this point WHISTLIN’ ARROW was directed outwards and as a result CHAMPAGNE AUNTY improved onto that horse’s heels and blundered badly, losing significant ground.
