Race 1: HENZELLS PELICAN WATERS FOUNDATION CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1600M

The start of this race was delayed to allow for the arrival on course of several runners, riders and the ambulance, which were all experiencing traffic difficulties.

The start was further delayed when SPIRAL cast the near fore plate after arriving at the barriers and required farrier attention.

SPIRAL – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

KALANGADOO CHROME – Apprentice A. Thompson was reminded of his obligations regarding the amount of whip use permitted prior to the 100m.

GET OUTA UTAH – After arriving on course late and then escaping from its handler for a short period in the confines of the tie-up stalls, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Shifted wider to improve passing the 800m.

Race 2: DIPPY DO DA DAN BENCHMARK 85 H’CAP – 1400M

APOLOBOOM – Laid out rounding the home turn.

REAL EGO – Passing the 250m bumped by DRUMBEAT’S CHOICE, which shifted out to obtain clear running.

RAMBLIN’ MAN – Laid in passing the 500m. Bumped passing the 200m by EMOTIVE MOUNTAIN, which shifted in.

CLEVER MISS – Inconvenienced and raced in restricted room passing the 500m to the inside of RAMBLIN’ MAN, which laid in. Commenced to lay out rounding the home turn and then once in the home straight hung out when placed under pressure and finished wider on the course. T. Harrison pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) of excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m and was fined $200.

EMOTIVE MOUNTAIN – Improved on to the heels of CLEVER MISS when crossed by that runner after passing the 800m and had to be shifted out. Shifted in when placed under pressure passing the 200m and made contact with RAMBLIN’ MAN.

Race 4: IMPACT STRENGTH & FITNESS GYM KAWANA MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed slightly when FROM NOW, which broke through the barriers, was returned to the start, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

SO DAPPER – Slow to begin and then was bumped.

DARK ORPHAN – Underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers at the request of the rider and cleared to start. Raced in a rearward position and finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near fore foot. The horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Trainer G. Clarke indicated that the mare will be retired from racing.

Race 5: CALOUNDRA CITY REALTY F&M CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M

The start was delayed when LOVE YOU LUCY, after being loaded, became fractious and was kicking at the back gates, which were unable to be closed, and continued kicking the back gates. As the horse was unable to be fully loaded it was declared a late scratching at 3:54 pm by order of stewards. Race 6: ROGERS & TURNER TRAVEL ASSOCIATES CLASS 1 PLATE – 1400M

ALL ZED AND DONE – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover in the early stages before being forced four wide approaching the 600m by WICCAN REDE, which shifted out when unable to be restrained. Had to be steadied passing the 200m when awkwardly placed at the heels of METALLURGIST, which shifted out. Stewards questioned apprentice A. Thompson regarding his riding of the gelding approaching the 600m where it appeared he allowed WICCAN REDE, which was racing to his inside, sufficient room to take advantage of a run which then presented itself due to the movement outwards of ALL ZED AND DONE. Apprentice Thompson explained that WICCAN REDE was travelling quite strongly and had bumped him on a couple of occasions, attempting to shift him wider. Apprentice Thompson added that his mount was not travelling well enough to prevent WICCAN REDE from shifting out and without much pressure his mount was forced wider on the course by that runner. Stewards noted the explanation.

BULLTRUCK – Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure after passing the 300m.

SMOOTH MOVE – Raced three wide with cover after passing the 800m.

TRUMPFUL – Proved difficult to load.

SMOOTH CELEBRATION – Improved on to the heels of the tiring TRUMPFUL approaching the 400m and was disappointed for a run to the outside of that runner and to the inside of SMOOTH MOVE.

WICCAN REDE – Commenced to overrace after passing the 1000m when in a tp. Unable to be restrained approaching the 600m and shifted out, forcing ALL ZED AND DONE wider on the course.

METALLURGIST – Bumped shortly after the start by SMOOTH MOVE.

Race 7: QMS MEDIA F&M BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1200M

EPIC PIPER, after slipping over in the tie-up stalls whilst being saddled, sustaining abrasions to its hocks and nearside hip, was declared a late scratching at 4:50 pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice that the horse was unfit to race. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on EPIC PIPER be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 4:50 pm:

11 cents in the dollar for the win #1
6 cents in the dollar for place of winner #1
14 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #6
18 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #9

COPYWRITER – Bumped on jumping. Had to be steadied away from the heels of TEQUILA BOOM when the pace steadied after passing the 900m.

TREASURE GALLERY – Slow to begin. After racing in a rearward position with cover, shifted three wide to improve when the pace slackened passing the 800m.

SHELTER LADY – Had to be steadied and alter course to the outside of the heels of NORTHERN DRAGON approaching the 100m.
