______________________
Race 1: XXXX Gold Maiden Plate – 1800m
KING OF THE REALM – Slow to begin.
ISALLKAY – Slow to begin. Jockey J. Woodhouse reported his mount overraced in the early and middle stages.
VINASTA - Stewards questioned jockey B. Nothdurft regarding the tactics he adopted in that he positioned the horse in a more forward position than its racing pattern suggests. He advised stewards whilst he was not given any firm instructions he had anticipated settling in the second half of the field, however the horse anticipated the start and he was obliged to restrain heavily to obtain cover, which he was able to do and settle in behind the leaders. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by apprentice Nothdurft. Apprentice Nothdurft also expressed he was disappointed with the mare’s finishing effort in the home straight.
GRAND BARRAL – Held up rounding the home turn.
Race 2: Wimmers Premium Soft Drinks QTIS 3yo Fillies Maiden Plate –
1000m
BOBBIE JO – Declared a late scratching at 1.30 pm by order of the stewards when it was discovered that the incorrect horse had been transported to the course by trainer P. Sexton. The following deductions were applicable.
0 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
1 cents in the dollar on the face value win bets for the place
1 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
1 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets
Stewards inquired into the circumstances which led to the incorrect horse being presented. It was established that when BOBBIE JO had been placed on the horse walker in the morning this filly and another filly named RAKU’S SECRET had been returned to the incorrect stables, which was not detected when it came time to transport BOBBIE JO to the races. During these inquiries stewards arranged for another steward to visit the stables of Mr Sexton who confirmed that BOBBIE JO was present. Trainer P. Sexton pleaded guilty to a charge under AR227 for being negligent in that he failed to correctly identify the horse being presented to race which led to a breach of the Rule AR 99(a). Mr Sexton was fined the sum of $500.
THINK I’M A LADY - The start of this race was delayed when the horse was fractious in the barriers and had to be removed from the barriers as there was concern the horse may have injured itself. Slow to begin. Placed in restricted room near the 700m and had to be steadied. Jockey L. Tilley reported in his opinion the horse raced poorly as a result of being extremely agitated and fractious in the mounting enclosure and behind the barriers. He indicated this had a detrimental effect on the horse’s overall performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed signs of tying up post race.
FLYING KASS – Slow to begin.
LOCAL GOSSIP – Slow to begin.
BROOKLYN STAR – Was obliged to steady when placed in restricted room near the 700m. Was then obliged to steady from heels when the pace slackened near the 600m.
EXONDABEACH – Inconvenienced and forced wider near the 600m.
MR ADELINE - Laid out under pressure in the home straight and made contact with the hind quarters of EXONDABEACH and as a result became unbalanced.
Race 3: Oaks Hotels, Resorts & Suites QTIS 3yo Fillies Maiden Plate –
1000m
EXPLOSIVE QUALITY – As R. Maloney was ill, R. Plumb was substituted as the rider of the horse. Jockey Plumb was then found to be unable to fulfil this engagement as he was to be overweight, and therefore replaced by R. Wiggins. Jockey R. Plumb pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule AR228(b) – improper conduct – in that when attempting to weigh out on EXPLOSIVE QUALITY he did conduct himself improperly in that when faced with the likelihood of being overweight, did attempt to deceive the Clerk of Scales by resting his vest on the monitor of the scales in an attempt to gain a weight advantage in order to make the 57 kilogram weight on the horse on 2 occasions. Jockey R. Plumb was fined $500. Obliged to steady when placed in restricted room approaching the 900m. Was heavily bumped by another runner approaching the 200m.
KUSAMA – Lunged forward at the start was effected and made contact with the barriers and as a result was slow to begin.
RHYME TIME – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
AIR SPIRIT – Jumped very awkwardly and made heavy contact with the barrier partition and lost ground.

Race 4: Hot 91.1 QTIS 3yo Colts & Geldings Maiden Plate – 1000m
RISING STAR – As jockey R. Plumb was to be overweight, jockey R. Stewart was substituted as the rider of the horse. Stewards in assessing this situation took into account that jockey Plumb had accepted both this ride and the ride from Race 3 during this morning and therefore took no further action. Was forced wider near the 300m.
RIVER ROCKET – Trainer L. Ross was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time.
LAST EDITION – Slow to begin.
REPLICATION – Bumped on jumping away. Raced greenly when restrained from heels approaching the 600m. Had some difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and was obliged to shift out and also became awkward at heels after passing the 400m.

EASY COME – Raced very greenly throughout and had to be steadied from heels near the 700m. Raced wide.
MAEVILA RULER – Raced wide without cover.
ABDICATING – Raced 4 wide without cover. Stewards opened an inquiry into the handling of the horse. Of concern were jockey L. Cassidy’s tactics in the home straight. Jockey Cassidy was asked to explain his actions to shift back to the inside near the 400m when it appeared he had opportunity to shift to the outside of RISING STAR, which would have afforded him an uninterrupted run to the finish of the event rather than the tactic he adopted in shifting back to the inside, which resulted in his mount being disappointed for a run between RIVER ROCKET and KENNEDY TERRACE near the 100m and causing his mount to be checked and unable to be fully tested over the final 100m. Jockey Cassidy explained that after beginning awkwardly he was obliged to settle in a position wider and further back in the field than he would have liked. He further added that his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the event, and when both RISING STAR and REPLICATION shifted out in front of him near the 400m, he gave consideration to shifting wider, however his mount had been hanging out and REPLICATON appeared to be continuing to shift wider, he felt this would have caused him to be in a part of the track in which he considered to be inferior going and also was concerned he would have continued to be forced wider. At this point he observed what he considered to be an opening for clear running back to the inside and was able to pressure his mount to improve, however after passing the 150m, KENNEDY TERRACE commenced to shift out under pressure, causing this run to close and resulting in him having to take hold. He also added that at this point when disappointed for a run his mount was also struck in the vicinity of the head by the whip of apprentice Nothdurft , rider of KENNEDY TERRACE. Stewards also took evidence from trainer Mr D. Batters, trainer of ABDICATING, who expressed concerns with the tactics in the straight. After considering jockey Cassidy’s explanation and reviewing the video footage, stewards formed the view that with hindsight it would have been a better option to shift wider to ensure clear running. However at the time when jockey Cassidy elected to shift back to the inside there was sufficient racing room to improve and therefore did not feel the decision to shift back to the inside was unreasonable in the circumstances and noted the explanation and took no further action.
Race 5: Butler McDermott Lawyers Class 1 H’cap – 1600m
The start of this race was delayed when LOVES A LOTTERY required farrier attention to reattach its near fore plate.

LOVES A LOTTERY – Was bumped by another runner on jumping away.
BATTLE PLANE – Bumped by another runner at the start. The horse weakened badly from the 600m and finished a distant last. Jockey Wiggins reported he was of the opinion the horse may have bled during the event. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer’s representative M. Sharp was advised that in light of today’s performance the horse would be required to officially trial prior to racing again.
