GENERAL
 
As Jockey Andrew Spinks was indisposed due to injury Stewards permitted rider replacements as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
 
Race 1: Boss Building Maintenance QTIS 2YO Maiden Handicap – 1200m
 
BEL’S DESIRE – Jumped away awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be showing signs of mild heat stress and shin soreness. Trainer G. Taylor indicated that the filly would likely be sent for a spell.
 
POUPEE – Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced behind the leader from the 1000m until leaving the 700m.
 
GENTLE PRINCE – Slow to begin and then steadied when placed in restricted room shortly afterwards.
 
 
Race 2: Drift Bar Maiden Plate – 1300m
 
DAM LOVABLE – Fractious in the barriers.
 
LOVE RUSH – Slow to begin. When the pace slackened, improved onto heels near the 800m and had to be steadied.
 
DADDY WARBUCKS – Slow to begin. Raced three wide throughout.
 
CACTOBLASTIS – Placed in restricted room near the 600m and had to be steadied.
 
MACKENZIE COUNTRY – Bumped and forced wider rounding the home turn. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
 
Race 3: Garrards Horse And Hound Benchmark 70 Handicap – 1000m
 
Trainer J. Smerdon was fined $100 for the late declaration of App L. Kilner as the rider of AIRINO.
 
ROGUE DRUMMER – Reared at the start and lost ground.
 
SAGRE’S POINT – Placed in restricted room shortly after the start and had to be steadied.
 
PRECIPITATE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
 
Race 4: K Smith & Son Jewellers Class 3 Handicap – 1600m
 
BIRKIN BLACK – Had a tendency to hang out in the early stages. Then raced greenly under pressure for a short distance after passing the 400m.
 
Race 5: Oaks Hotels, Resorts & Suites Maiden Handicap – 1600m
 
Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $100 for failing to effect a gear change for SLAVE TO THE GRIND by the required time.
 
SLENDER MAN – Slow to begin. Lost the near hind plate in running. Jockey R. Wiggins (SLAVE TO THE GRIND) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that when placing the gelding under heavy pressure in the home straight he failed to stop riding and straighten after passing the 300m, resulting in tightening to the running of SLENDER MAN, which had improved to the outside causing Jockey D. Griffin to take hold of his mount and lose his rightful running approaching the 200m. Jockey Wiggins’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of nine (9) days to commence midnight 11 February 2020 and expire midnight 20 February 2020.
 
TRUST ISSUES – Slow to begin.
 
RAPIDO SHOW – Overraced in the early stages.
 
MISS TAYLOR – Forced wider when SLAVE TO THE GRIND hung out approaching the 1200m.
 
ACEME – Whilst racing wide was forced wider approaching the 1200m before being permitted to stride forward to take up the lead passing the 900m.
 
SLAVE TO THE GRIND – Hung out during the early and middle stages. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
Race 6: Tensens Class 1 Plate SW – 1400m
 
WINERIES – Slow to begin.
 
TERRITORY – Blundered on jumping away. Approaching the 300m whilst weakening became unbalanced between runners.
 
SOLDIERS – Overraced in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be showing signs of heat stress.
 
DUCHESS OF ROSE – After passing the 500m was obliged to shift wider to secure clear running. After passing the 400m hung in across the heels of ONE MORE CAST and had to be checked.
 
ONE MORE CAST – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
 
Race 7: PFD Foodservices – Nev’s Class 1 Plate SW – 1800m
 
CABOCHON LIL – Slow to begin. Held up approaching the 500m. After passing the 100m was heavily bumped by CLEAR SAILING and shifted inwards.
 
CLEAR SAILING – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure near the 100m and bumped CABOCHON LIL.
 
HELSUN – Slow to begin.
 
IT’S NOT AN ISSUE - Overraced badly in the early and middle stages whilst leading before weakening badly in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Trainer D. Heinemann advised that he would now retire the gelding. Nonetheless Mr Heinemann was advised that a TAB bar would be placed on the gelding.
 
HIGHLAND SKIPPER - Held up from the 500m and obliged to steady from heels and then remained unable to obtain clear running until shifting wider after the 400m.
 
WICKED HEIGHTS – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
WHAKAREWAREWA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SIR PELLIAS – Lost an off fore plate in running.
 
Jockey R. Maloney (CABOCHON LIL) was fined $400 for returning to scale overweight.
 
 
Race 8: TAB Ratings Band 0-62 Handicap – 1200m
 
Trainer D. Hansen was fined $100 for the late declaration of M. Hellyer as the rider of ANCIENT AZTEC.
 
SINISTER PRINCESS – Jumped awkwardly, made heavy contact with the barrier partition causing the horse to become unbalanced and causing the saddle to shift back placing its rider at a disadvantage in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor abrasion to the off hind fetlock.
 
ANCIENT AZTEC – Approaching the 200m was obliged to alter course and steady to avoid the heels of SHINSHINTO, which shifted out under pressure. App C. Bayliss (SHINSHINTO)  was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten in this incident.
