Race 1: Kingsley St Clair Memorial Maiden Plate - 1000m

FEDERAL AGENT – Trainer M. Mair was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which raced 3 wide without cover, failed to reveal any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the  performance jockey J. Orman  indicated from the wide alley he was obliged to race 3 wide and the horse did not travel comfortably at any stage of the event and, in his opinion, was disappointing.  He felt this could be attributed  to the horse failing to back up from racing on Friday night, the  28th of February.   Trainer M. Mair stated, in his opinion, the step back from 1200m to 1000m in today’s event may  also have had a bearing on the horse’s overall performance.

SWAN ISLAND - Trainer B. Gorman was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time.

GREYT INTENTIONS  – Lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 2: National Construction Management Drummo Memorial Class
H’cap  - 1000

FORGOTTEN FEELING – Trainer L. Wanless was fined $100 for failing to declared a rider for the horse by the prescribed time.  Blundered badly on jumping away, almost dislodging the rider and causing the rider to lose the use of his off-side stirrup iron during the first 100m. Held up for clear running and obliged to check from heels between the 200m and 100m.

FLAME OF LIBERTY – Reared in the barriers and underwent a veterinary examination before being  cleared to start.

RISING KING – After being loaded into the barriers attempted to savage another runner.  Trainer R. Wrigley was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

Race 3: Rowe Plumbing And Drainage Class 3 H’cap – 1200m

AIR SPIRIT – Was kicked by another runner in tie-tie up stalls. Underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

FEARLESS QUEEN – Inconvenienced on jumping away and lost ground. Raced wide throughout and was inclined to lay in under pressure passing the 400m.

BOOMSTRESS – Jumped away awkwardly, inconveniencing FEARLESS QUEEN. After travelling wide throughout without cover, was tightened for room whilst weakening near the 500m, and again was tightened for room near the 350m and had to be steadied.

REZABELLE – Raced in restricted room near the 700m and when being restrained raced with its head in the air and lost ground.

AT DUSK – Steadied from heels near the 700m and obliged to shift wider on the track.

BOLD THALIA – Jockey R. Stewart reported his mount after settling passing the 700m commenced to lose ground and he was obliged to place significant pressure on the horse after passing the 600m in order to hold its position.  He also added it raced greenly and was somewhat field-shy rounding the home turn.

ANCIENT AZTEC – Jockey R Maloney was questioned regarding his riding in the straight where it appeared he had opportunity to remain in a position outside the heels of TREVELLO, which would have resulted in AIR SPIRIT having difficulty securing clear running, he was asked to explain why he allowed his mount to shift out which afforded clear running for AIR SPIRIT, between his mount and  TREVELLO. He explained that after shifting around the heels of TREVELLO near the 400m his mount had a tendency to lay out  and also did not respond to his riding at that point of the race. He indicated that prior to shifting out he felt that ANCIENT AZTEC was travelling well enough to improve outside TREVELLO, however his mount failed to respond and did not finish the race off  as he would have liked. Stewards, after reviewing the patrol footage with Jockey Maloney, accepted the explanation that his mount was inclined to lay out, and also accepted that given the finishing effort of ANCIENT AZTEC, it would have been difficult for him to force apprentice Nothdurft, rider of AIR SPIRIT, to remain in a position behind TREVELLO.

Race 4: First Response Maintenance Solutions Class 3 H’cap – 1200m

Prior to the running of this event the track rating was upgraded to Soft 6.

AMORE DANZA – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Rider R. Fradd reported the  horse was making an abnormal respiratory noise during the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse was making an abnormal respiratory noise. Connections were advised that the horse must undergo an endoscopic examination prior to the horse racing again.

LINE UP – Hung out throughout the event, placing its rider at a disadvantage, particularly between the 800m and 600m.  Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners.

NAVY – Was bumped on the hind quarters by GOLDEN LILY and became unbalanced near the 300m.

OSCARS LOT – After being held up for clear running from passing the 600m shifted out near the 350 to secure clear running  and as a result made heavy contact with GOLDEN LILY.  Apprentice A. Thompson, rider of OSCARS LOT, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Continued to  have difficulty securing clear running and near the 100m attempted a tight run between CLAIRVUE SPIRIT and GOLDEN LILY, however the horse was reluctant to improve into  this run, became awkward at heels and went to the line without being fully tested.

CLAIRVUE SPIRIT – Overraced near the 900m and shifted out. As a result raced wide from that point onwards.

BIRKIN BLACK – Raced wide without cover.
