SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
From Sunshine Coast Friday 6.3.20 – Race 2:
 
Trainer M. Hemmings reported that post-race MISS MAKEPEACE was distressed and quite agitated, and further reported that on return to the stables the horse was showing signs of being in season, which he indicated may have had a detrimental effect on the overall performance.
 
Race 1: BUNDY CHOP SHOP MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M
 
MONSTER OF POWER – Rider L. Cassidy was asked to comment on the performance. He indicated that in the early stages he had elected to steady to take up a trailing position behind the favourite DON’T DESPAIR. He then indicated, however, in hindsight he may have been better served riding the horse in a more forward position and was satisfied with the horse’s overall finishing effort.
 
MA'CHANEL – Bumped and forced wider near the 500m.
 
Race 2: HAPPY 50TH ROLLY QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1400M
 
The start of this race was delayed when PACQUOLA reared in the barriers and was inspected by the veterinary surgeon before being cleared to start.
 
MASARED – Bumped by MITTA MARY near the 800m and from that point onwards commenced to weaken and finished last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G. Duncan was asked to comment. He indicated that he would trial the horse in blinkers in light of today’s performance and look to race the horse in blinkers with a view to attempt to lead next start. He felt that the horse did not race well as a result of settling amongst other runners. Mr Duncan was fined the sum of $100 for allowing the horse to leave the course prior to 30 minutes after the race.
 
MITTA MARY – After improving to a position behind the lead was steadied from heels near the 800m and shifted out, bumping MASARED. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
PACQUOLA – Reared in the barriers, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Slow to begin.
 
MY ADELINE – Raced three wide from the 700m without cover and was inconvenienced near the 400m.
 
Race 3: AVOCA SMASH REPAIRS MAIDEN H'CAP – 1600M
 
RADICAL SPIRIT – Stewards questioned rider L. Tarrant and trainer S. Kendrick regarding the tactics adopted as the horse was positioned in the lead in today’s event, which was in contrast to the horse’s established racing pattern. L. Tarrant indicated that he had been given no specific instructions, however did pressure the horse out of the barriers and was not surprised to have the horse show speed today as it was racing for the first time in blinkers and therefore he was satisfied to allow the horse to stride forward to the lead. Trainer S. Kendrick agreed that he had not given specific instructions, however, he noted that at the horse’s two previous starts it has begun quite awkwardly and lost significant ground. Stewards accepted the explanations tendered, noting that on both occasions that the horse had jumped awkwardly the incidents had been noted in the stewards’ reports.
 
LIKEABEEL – Laid in under pressure over the final 400m, placing its rider at a disadvantage.
 
NICOSMILE – Connections advised that it would be the intention to have the horse ridden in a more forward position as the horse has not been performing well when ridden in the second half of the field. The horse began awkwardly and lost ground and as a result was ridden at the tail of the field. Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
Race 4: MOUNT ISA PETS & PRODUCE CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1600M
 
LUCKY JACKSON – Raced wide from the 800m.
 
DON’T DOUBT LARA – Slow to begin.
 
HE’S THE DEEL – Raced wide from the 800m.
 
GOLDEN LILY – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
 
Race 5: HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROLLY F&M BENCHMARK 62 H'CAP – 1000M
 
SIMPLY SO – Steadied from heels after passing the 900m. Again eased from heels near the 600m and had some difficulty obtaining clear running near the 200m.
 
BETTER THAN GOLD – Overraced during the early stages. Stewards inquired into the reasons for the filly suffering interference near the 450m. After considering the evidence, jockey M. McGillivray, the rider of WINNING SHOT, was found guilty of a charge of reckless riding under AR131(a) in that after passing the 600m he pressured his mount to improve and then directed his mount out from a position inside ZOLLIKON MISS across the heels of that runner, making heavy contact with TEAGZ, causing that horse to become unbalanced, shift out and make heavy contact with BETTER THAN GOLD, causing that horse and its rider to become unbalanced, shift significantly wider and lose ground. Jockey McGillivray’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 4 weeks, to commence midnight Sunday 22 March and to conclude midnight Sunday 19 April 2020.
 
ZOLLIKON MISS – Weakened and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. It was reported by jockey B. Stewart and by trainer B. Dais that the horse had made an abnormal respiratory noise during and after the event. Mr Dais was advised to have an endoscopic examination performed and report the findings to stewards prior to the horse’s next start.
 
TEAGZ – Bumped heavily near the 450m, became unbalanced, shifted out and made heavy contact with BETTER THAN GOLD.
 
PINEAPPLE BOOM – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
Race 6: FOODWORKS AGNES WATER F&M CLASS 1 PLATE – 1400M
 
CAMOUFLAGE GIRL – The off hind plate had to be reattached by the farrier behind the barriers. Raced wide throughout.
 
EVIE MATILDA – Inspected by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers after making contact with the outside fence en route to the barriers and was cleared to take its place in the field.
 
MISS FLAWLESS – After being slow to begin, was significantly tightened for room on jumping away and lost ground.
 
RIVER OF LOVE – Jumped away very awkwardly, almost dislodging its rider. Raced wide throughout.
 
DUCHESS OF ROSE – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
 
Race 7: AGNES WATER POSTIE C,G&E CLASS 1 PLATE – 1400M
 
Prior to the running of this event the track was downgraded to HEAVY 8.
 
The start of this race was delayed when BACK THE ROCK required farrier attention behind the barriers in order to replace a near fore plate.
 
BACK THE ROCK – The near fore plate had to be replaced behind the barriers. Slow to begin. Overraced when the pace slackened near the 1000m.
 
MINOR LUCK – Raced wide throughout.
 
STAYING BLACK – Overraced when the pace slackened near the 1000m. Laid in under pressure after passing the 400m. J. Orman was questioned as to the reasons his mount lost its position after settling behind AMAZINGLY near the 900m. Jockey Orman stated that after overracing, his mount then settled well, however, after leaving the 800m did lose ground away from AMAZINGLY and he was obliged to slap the horse down the shoulder with his whip near the 700m. He indicated that shortly after this KING’S RULE shifted away from the fence and it was soon after this point that he commenced to place pressure on the horse from the 600m. He added that the horse would benefit from a step up in distance and also, in his opinion, did not handle today’s rain-affected track conditions.
 
BOLD DELAGO – Significantly slow to begin.
 
HEY PAL – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Overraced when the pace slackened near the 1000m.
 
KING’S RULE – Overraced near the 1000m.
 
SHAKA ROCK – Raced wide throughout.
 
SUGAR ZONE – Raced wide without cover.
