Race 1:  Flying Start Syndications QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 1000m
 
FREYJA – Jockey A. Sewell replaced jockey  R. Wiggins, who was delayed in traffic.
 
The start of this race was delayed when BUILT FOR SPEED, FREYJA and DZSENIFER  all lunged at the barriers and required veterinary inspections.   Following an inspection  DZSENIFER  was found to have blood in its near-side nostril and was declared a late scratching at 5.16 pm with the following deductions applicable.
 
2 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
2 cents in the dollar on the face value win bets for the place
1 cent in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
2 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets
 
Both BUILT FOR SPEED and FREYJA  were cleared to take their place in the field.
 
ANOTHER EPISODE – Tightened for room at the start and lost significant ground.
 
MASTER RED  -  Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Raced very greenly throughout and hung out from the 700m.  Trainer J. Walk was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding. Mr Walk gave stewards an undertaking he would trial the horse prior to racing again.
 
MORNING FLIGHT – Jumped away awkwardly. Hung in during the early stages and was bumped by MISHANI VANDAL near the 250m. Raced greenly throughout.
 
GYPSY ROZAY – Tightened for room at the start and had to be steadied. Raced greenly throughout and as a result was steadied near the 700m. Tightened for room and steadied near the 500m.
 
HIGHLAND SON – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
MISHANI VANDAL – Raced greenly throughout and shifted in near the 500m and bumped GYPSY ROZAY. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight and near the 250m bumped with MORNING FLIGHT.
 

Race 2:  Creative Stone QTIS 3yo Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1000m
 
BETTER THAN GROOVY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide without cover and was forced wider rounding the home turn.
 
MISHANI ROMANCE – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.
 
SPIRIT RICH – Slow to begin.
 
DYNAMIC VERSE – Obliged to alter course secure clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
BOLD EOS – Forced wider rounding the  home turn.
 
SHEEZASINGA – Apprentice C Bayliss was asked to comment on the seemingly disappointing performance. He stated the horse did not appreciate having another runner improve quickly to its outside during the middle stages and did not travel comfortably after that point.  Trainer B. Lockwood indicated he was disappointed with the horse’s finishing effort and would therefore review the horse’s current preparation.
 

Race 3: Landsborough Hotel Benchmark 60 H’cap – 1000m
 
INITIALIZE – Declared a late scratching at 4.25 pm on veterinary advice. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be supplied prior to its next race start.
 
TWERK – Trainer C. Munce was fined $200 for the late  scratching  of the horse at 11 am.
 
Prior to correct weight stewards considered an objection by jockey A. Allen, rider of the  3rd placegetter  CAILINI, alleging interference in the home straight against TRU BLU TANGO being declared the 2nd placegetter. After viewing the video footage and considering the evidence of the riders, stewards dismissed the objection as they could not be satisfied CAILINI had suffered any interference in the home straight.  Following this hearing jockey A. Allen was found guilty of a charge under AR219(5), in that he had lodged a frivolous objection and was fined the sum of $200.
 
LEROYTHECONQUEROR – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with OTTAMAE.
 
OTTAMAE – Tightened for room and steadied at the start.
 
CAILINI – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
VON ROSEN – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with NINEONEONE.
 
INSTABEATS – Raced wide without cover.
 
NINEONEONE – Stewards inquired into the handling of NINEONEONE.  Of particular concern was jockey D. Smith’s decision to shift back to the inside in the early stages of the home straight after having shifted away from the fence in an attempt to secure clear running when it appeared he had the option to shift further wider around the heels of LEROYTHECONQUEROR, which would have afforded him a clear run rather than being held up at heels over the concluding stages. Jockey Smith explained it had been his intention to ride the filly in a position on the speed, however after being significantly checked at the start he was obliged to  settle at the tail of the field.  He  had also been made aware  that the horse has a tendency to lay out and as such was somewhat reluctant to shift out dramatically on the home turn. He also added at the time he did not have clear running and he had observed that CAILINI had improved on the fence and felt he had an opportunity to gain clear running back to the inside. He stated in hindsight due to being held up over the concluding stages he agreed it would have been a better option to shift wider outside the heels of LEROYTHECONQUEROR. After stewards had taken evidence from trainer S. Kendrick, who confirmed the comments of Mr Smith, stewards found that whilst they felt jockey Smith had erred in judgment at that point of the race, they did not feel that his decision to shift back to the inside  was not so unreasonable to find him culpable under the rules and  therefore took no further action.
 
Race 4: H & H Air Conditioning Benchmark 55 H’cap – 1400m
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight a protest was lodged by jockey A. Allen, rider of 2nd placegetter, against KING ALFONSO being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After viewing the patrol footage and considering evidence tendered by the participants involved, stewards established that over the concluding stages ALLO ALLO shifted out slightly whilst KING ALFONSO shifted in abruptly, resulting in contact between those 2 runners at a point near the 20 metre mark. Stewards accepted that there were grounds for objection, however given the close proximity to the conclusion of the race and the manner in which both horses were finishing the race, were not satisfied that the interference was sufficient  to reverse the half head margin and therefore dismissed the objection.
 
THE GOLDEN HIND – Overraced during the early stages. Obliged to alter course to secure clear running in the home straight.
 
GRANDE CASADORA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Overraced during the early stages.
 
RISING KING – Overraced during the early stages.
 
ALLO ALLO – Raced wide from the 700m.
 
DRUMS JEWEL – Jockey M Murphy returned to scale in excess of 1/2kg overweight and was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR 211.
 
 
Race 5:  Battery Wise Sunshine Coast Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
 
CLAIRVUE SPIRIT – Slow to begin.
 
DAVIDBOOM – Slipped on jumping away and suffered a significant laceration to the near hindleg and as a result took no competitive part in the event.  Trainer J. Mott was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the gelding racing again.
 
MOOD – Slow to begin.
 
POETIC CHOICE – Overraced badly after passing the 1000m, obliged to check from heels on a number of occasions approaching the 600m and as a result shifted wider on the track to avoid heels and raced wide from the 600m onwards.   Apprentice Tomlinson advised stewards he had recommended to connections to remove the horse’s blinkers in an attempt to rectify the horse’s racing manners.
 
IMPLACABLE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
EFFORT – Raced wide throughout.
 
MUSICMAKER – Jockey J. Bayliss reported this his mount raced keenly in the middle stages, which, in his opinion, had a detrimental  effect on the horse’s overall performance.  The horse also lost the off hind plate in running.
 
 
Race 6: Drysdale Funerals Benchmark 55 H’cap – 1800m
 
GALVARINO – Trainer C. Munce  was fined $100 for the late declaration of R. Wiggins as the rider of  the horse.  
 
COACH – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced and forced wider near the 1350m and raced wide for a short distance thereafter.
 
PARIS CRYSTAL – Checked to avoid heels near the 1350 and lost ground.
 
WHAKAREWAREWA – Checked near the 1350m to avoid GOTHIC ROMANCE, which had broken down.
 
TAVISFACTION – Near the 1400m laid in despite the efforts of its rider, causing interference to DEE CEE  DELIGHTS.  Shortly afterwards had to be significantly checked to avoid the heels of GOTHIC ROMANCE, which had broken down.  Trainer L. White reported the horse had been galloped on the off hindleg.
 
DEE CEE DELIGHTS -  Tightened for room near the 1400m and as a result was significantly checked.
 
FILTERS – Checked to avoid heels near the 1350m.
 
SECRET AGENT MAN – Rider S. Cormack dropped his whip near the 300m.
 
RIVER OF LOVE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MISS LIBERTAS – Raced wide throughout.
 
GOTHIC ROMANCE – Broke down in the off foreleg, fracturing its sesamoid  and was retired from the event.  The mare was subsequently euthanatized on humane grounds.
 
 
Race 7: TAB Maiden Plate – 1800m
 
HIGHLAND REBEL – Slow to begin.
 
PACQUOLA – Slow to begin.
 
NICOSMILE – Overraced in the early stages.
 
DECEBALUS – Overraced during the early stages. Rider Obliged to take hold and  steady near the 300m when placed in restricted room between LUCASTAIRE, which laid in despite the efforts of its rider, and LADY JEUNE, which shifted out after having been held up in an attempt to secure clear running.   Jockey A. Sewell, rider of LADY JEUNE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
TOUCAN SAM – Overraced in the early and middle stages and as a result was permitted to stride forward to the lead. Inconvenienced over the concluding stages.
 
LUCASTAIRE –  Shifted in tightening the running of DECEBALUS near the 300m.  Raced wide throughout without cover and hung badly throughout the event.  Trainer T. Thomas was advised that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
 
FIORELLI – Hung out throughout the event.
 
LADY JEUNE – Held up rounding the home turn before shifting out to secure clear running.
