Race 1: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS MAIDEN H'CAP – 2200M CAIRNSY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery. CALLHIMWATUWANT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. HOSTILE STAR – Slow to begin. Obliged to check passing the winning post on the first occasion when tightened for room by TOP ORDER. A. Spinks, the rider of TOP ORDER, was reprimanded for shifting in when not clear. Shifted wider on the track after passing the 1600m, improved in a three-wide position and settled outside the lead passing the 800m. Stewards asked rider R. Fradd to comment on the horse’s performance and his tactics. He stated that he had been instructed to ride in a more forward position and when the filly began poorly he waited until the field settled before allowing the horse to stride forward to take up a more forward position. Trainer P. Jenkins was asked to comment. He advised that he was satisfied with the manner in which jockey Fradd had ridden HOSTILE STAR and would be discussing the horse’s immediate racing future with connections. LEICABLE – As apprentice M. Wishart failed to arrive on course, M. Du Plessis was substituted as the rider of the mare. Slow to begin. After the running of this event a number of riders addressed concerns with a section of the track near the 200m which had been damaged during the running of Race 1. Stewards and a number of riders inspected that section of track and it was deemed safe to continue racing, however, due to discoloration from dirt which had been brought to the surface, the Club was directed to cover the area with grass clippings, which stewards and riders were satisfied with, to alleviate concerns. As a result, Races 3 to 9 were put back one race start time, with Race 10 scheduled to be run at 6:45 pm. Following the running of this race the track was further downgraded to HEAVY 10. Race 3: COASTLINE BMW QTIS 2YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M CIVITAS – Tightened for room on jumping away and lost ground. COUNTRY SHOWGIRL – Slow to begin. As a riding group, the riders indicated they were not satisfied that the visibility was adequate to ensure safety and therefore the remainder of the race meeting was called off at 3:20 pm.
