Stewards noted the explanation and advised Mrs Erhart of her obligations under the rules to notify stewards of any potential change of tactics.

GALAXY GURU -  Stewards questioned jockey B. Pengelly regarding his tactics from the 500m where it appeared he had opportunity to shift to the outside of SPEAKING BAD when rounding the home turn, and again his reasons for failing to shift to the outside of that runner in the final 200m where there appeared opportunity to do so.  Jockey Pengelly stated  approaching the home turn he was obliged to ride with vigour and did not feel that the gelding was  travelling comfortably as it was struggling to hold its position behind SPEAKING BAD, and shortly after straightening the gelding commenced to hang in, placing him at a disadvantage.  He added that from the 200m he had attempted to  shift to the outside of SPEAKING BAD, however his mount continued to lay in  and SPEAKING BAD  had commenced to shift out away from the fence. He added that over the concluding stages he had improved onto  the heels of SPEAKING BAD and then shifted back to the inside to avoid those heels. He added he went to the line without being fully tested as he was held up for clear running. He advised stewards that as the  horse was somewhat flat-footed rounding the home turn and doing its best work over the concluding stages he was of the view that the horse would benefit from a step up in distance.
