Race 1: Eumundi Lager Maiden H’cap – 1200m KERBSIDE KAOS – Stewards, acting under the powers of AR20(b), ordered the withdrawal of the horse at 8.55 am after receiving information provided by the QRIC IIT following a morning stable inspection. An inquiry into this matter was adjourned to a date to be fixed. GOLD CHORUS – Slow to begin. Jockey M. Cahill was asked to comment on the performance. He indicated his mount was unable to muster early speed and during the middle stages he was obliged to place pressure on his horse, in order to remain in contact with the main body of the field. He further added that the horse was doing its best work over the concluding stages and found the line strongly. He also advised stewards that, in his opinion, the GOLD CHORUS would improve and take benefit from a step up in distance. SUN ‘N’ SURF – Jumped awkwardly and bumped at the start. REMUNERATIVE – Began awkwardly and bumped on jumping away. Raced greenly in the early stages of the home straight. TIMETORINGTHEBELL – Overraced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Raced wide throughout. VINASTA – Held up rounding the turn and until leaving the 300m. Following the running of Race 1 the track was upgraded to Soft 5. Race 2: Iron Jack Maiden H’cap – 1200m REFLECTIVE – Slow to begin. Byrne reported his mount was disappointed for a run when attempting to shift out and improve near the 550m and as a result had to be steadied from heels. He added that his mount was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. JUST LIKE RULER – Jockey M. Hellyer reported his mount raced greenly under pressure and was inclined to lay out NITT WHITT – Raced wide throughout. Jockey A. Sewell reported his mount raced greenly throughout the event. MY ADELINE – Hung out for the majority of the event. Race 3: Furphy QTIS 3yo Fillies Maiden Plate – 1200m QUEEN ANN – Significantly slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. When asked to explain his tactics, jockey S. Tomlinson indicated he had been instructed to ride in a forward position, and he attempted to fulfil these instructions by riding aggressively after being significantly slow to begin. He added that as a result he was caught 4 wide without cover and was of the view in hindsight he would have been better served, after being slow to begin, to take hold and take up a trailing position at the tail of the field. Stewards agreed with the comments and took no further action other than to draw this ride to the attention of Mr Shane Scriven of the Racing Queensland Training Department. EXPRESS LOVE – Steadied when placed in restricted room near the 1100m when I’M MAGICAL shifted in. Jockey T. Harrison, rider of I’M MAGICAL, was reprimanded for shifting ground when not fully clear. JELLISHOT – Overraced in the middle stages and became awkward at heels near the 600m. SHEZABEANS – Had difficulty securing clear running between the 400m and 250m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be demonstrating stiffness in its hind leg action. Trainer’s representative M. Sharpe advised stewards that the horse would now be sent for a spell. Stewards advised Mr Sharpe that when the horse returned from a spell it would be required to perform satisfactorily in an official trial prior to racing again. JABALI GOLD – Improved onto heels and had to be checked near the 600m. MISHANI CONMAN – Overrarced in the early and middle stages. YOURJOKINGME RIGHT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. TRIPTONIC – Jockey R. Maloney was interviewed as to his reasons for failing to ride the gelding out over the final 150m. At this stage he advised stewards the horse had been short in its front action. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. As this information was provided to stewards after the running of Race 6, jockey Maloney pleaded guilty to a charge under AR114(2)(a) in that he had failed to report to stewards as soon as practicable something which may have affected the horse’s performance, namely that he had concerns with the horse’s action in front which had caused him to not ride his mount out over the final 150m. Jockey Maloney was subsequently fined the sum of $300. Race 5: Hahn Super Dry Class 4 Plate – 1200m MOGADOR – Slow to begin. PLUMARO – Held up from the 500m until the 250m. Mackinnon advised stewards that upon the arrival of the horse back at his stables it was exhibiting clinical signs of thumps, and he advised stewards he would have his veterinary surgeon examine the horse in the coming days and would report to stewards the result of this examination. Venkaya, rider of DREAMALINA, was found guilty of a charge under AR131(a), in that near the 200m he failed to stop riding and straighten when riding his mount with the whip when it shifted out. This shift caused ARROW EXPRESS to be taken out on to SOLID ASSET, which caused jockey G. Hayse to have to check from the heels of ME MUM’S FOXY. Jockey Venkaya’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days, to commence at midnight 6 August and to expire at midnight, 17 August.
