Maloney stated his mount did not travel comfortably at any stage of the event and despite racing wide was disappointing. He added that the gelding was inclined to lay in in the home straight. Trainer D. Vandyke advised that in light of today’s performance the gelding would be leaving the stable.  Mr Vandyke was nevertheless advised that the horse would be required to trial prior to its next race start.
A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Gollan on being ridden in a more forward position.  Stable representative G. McKeller stated it was the intention last start to ride forward, however was unable to do so as other runners had improved to the inside during the early stages, and therefore as a result was placed back in the field. Jockey Pengelly was questioned regarding his apparent failure to ride his mount out over the concluding stages. He explained that as MISSILE MANIA shifted out under pressure when racing to his inside at that point he was obliged to stop pressuring his mount as his racing line was being effected. Stewards accepted this explanation. Jockey B. Pengelly was fined $500 for excessive use of his whip prior to the 100m.

Huxtable), he directed his mount out when not clear of NEVER LOSE FAITH, causing that horses rider to take hold and resulting in the horse losing its rightful running.  Furthermore he continued to shift out, inconveniencing DEE CEE DELIGHTS.  Jockey J. Guthman-Chester’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days, to commence at midnight, 8 August and to expire at midnight, 17 August.

TORMINO – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and continued to have difficulty obtaining clear running until a point passing the 200m.

Hulbert made application for his runner, MOONSHINE LADY,  to be declared a non runner.  After viewing the race replay stewards found that other than for the mare’s own actions it had been afforded a fair start and was therefore declared a runner. Reared as the start was effected, which resulted in rider A Thompson striking his head on the barrier cross bar. A Thomson suffered a suspected head injury and as a result MOONSHINE LADY took no competitive part in the event. Apprentice Thompson was advised that he must complete a concussion test and provide a doctors certificate prior to riding again.

INVIGORATING – Held up rounding the home turn
