ENRIQUE – Reared on jumping away and lost ground. PRIVATE BUTTON – Over raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Stewards asked Tegan Harrison to explain her riding over the concluding stages. Jockey Harrison stated that her mount raced greenly under pressure in the early stages of the home straight and she was obliged to stop riding when awkwardly placed between runners over the concluding stages. Stewards accepted the explanation. Race 2: SUNSHINE COAST FLOORING XTRA BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1600 metres CERTAIN DOUBT – Stewards inquired into the riding tactics adopted by apprentice Minonette Kennedy, which resulted in her mount establishing a significant lead during the middle stages of the event. Apprentice Kennedy explained that she had been instructed to attempt to settle in a position outside the leader, which she had anticipated would be SINSHINTO and that she was mindful of her mount having a history of overracing. She added that after having obtained this position the gelding commenced to overrace and as she had been successful in winning a race over the same distance on CERTAIN DOUBT when allowing the horse to establish a significant lead, she felt that this would be a better option than excessively restraining the gelding. She further added however that the horse did not finish the race off when ridden in this fashion today and that this may have been due to the horse having had a month between runs. Trainer John Walk confirmed the instructions, adding that given the time between runs the horse may have raced a little fresh today and in light of this the attempt to establish a significant lead may not have been the best option in todays event. A post race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an elevated heart rate. Stewards accepted that the gelding had overraced in the early stages and therefore also accepted the explanation. SHINSHINTO – Stewards inquired into the riding tactics adopted by apprentice Corey Bayliss due to the pace which was set during the early stages of the event. Apprentice Bayliss explained that he had been instructed to lead if possible, which he did so in the early stages, however when challenged for the lead near the 1200m he elected to restrain and settle behind CERTAIN DOUBT, which in his opinion appeared to be overracing. He stated that his mount did overrace in the early stages after obtaining the lead, however the horse settle well after being crossed by CERTAIN DOUBT near the 1000m. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards accepted the explanation. KEEN ON GOLD – Slow to begin. Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted by Ryan Maloney, as he settled to the rear of the field, which is in contrast to the horses established racing pattern. He explained that he had been instructed to ride forward, however as his mount only began fairly, he immediately elected to steady and attempt to obtain cover as he was concerned that from the wide barrier draw he would be caught wide without cover. He also added that he was concerned that if he rode the mare aggressively to establish a forward position that she may overrace as it was the horses first start with blinkers. Trainer David Vandyke advised he expected the mare to jump well and race in a forward position however was satisfied with the decision of jockey Maloney during the early stages. He further stated that he had supported the mare and provided betting information as evidence. Stewards noted the comments. RELENTLESS MISS – Over raced in the early stages.
