GENERAL
 
Due to heavy traffic all races were put back one timeslot with Race 1 to start at 6.30 pm and Race 7 to start at 9.35 pm.
 
 
Race 1: TAB CREATE YOUR SPRING CALENDAR Maiden Plate 1000 metres
 
AT THE HELM – Began awkwardly.
 
HIDDEN HAIL – Hung out and raced greenly in the home straight and proved difficult to ride.
 
CALL ME BEL – Checked at the start by TEMUJIN LASS which shifted in. Near 850m when over racing was checked to avoid the heels of TEMUJIN LASS which lost ground.
 
TEMUJIN LASS – Near 850m was checked and contacted the heels of COURTHOUSE which when racing greenly shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Laid out in the home straight.
 
COURT HOUSE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with OLIVIALEX. Raced very greenly and proved difficult to ride. Trainer S Kendrick was advised that a warning would be placed on its racing manners.
 
YOU CHOOSE – Approaching the 800m was steadied when crowded by KICK HI which was carried in by DAULAT. Apprentice J Huxtable reported that after being inconvenienced near the 800m, his mount did not travel as expected and was disappointing.
 
QUEEN ANN – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover.
 
OLIVIALEX- Bumped after start. Near the 850m steadied away from the heels of TEMUJIN. Raced greenly throughout.
 
ALOCTANE – Raced wide throughout.
 
ALAN ALAN STEVE - Which had not raced for an extended period underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
 
Race 2: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1600 metres
 
COASTAL PRINCE – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
SCOUTABOUT – Over raced early when being restrained. Jockey Hellyer pleaded guilty under AR131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race and was fined $200. Stewards were of the opinion that his actions did not affect the placings.
 
TOO HOT TO HOLD – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
MISS MARGS – Raced wide in the early stages before improving to a position outside the leader near the 1200m.
 
THUMBS UP – Slow to begin. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Trainer K Kemp reviewed the footage to ascertain grounds for a possible objection. On review Mr Kemp elected not to proceed.
 
 
Race 3: SCTC MEMBERSHIP Maiden Plate 1400 metres
 
BLONDE 'N' READY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
JUST LIKE RULER – Bounded at the start and lost ground.
 
KARBORS – Approaching the 400m was awkwardly placed between JUST LIKE RULER and LUCASTAIRE and as a result bumped with LUCASTAIRE. Apprentice B Nothdurft reported the gelding felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
LUCASTAIRE – Near the 400m steadied from the heels of KARBORS (B Nothdurft (a)) which shifted out. Apprentice B Nothdurft was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
MONSTER OF POWER – Began awkwardly.
 
PRINCESS CLEOPATRA – Apprentice J Murphy reported that the mare raced fiercely with blinkers and as a result settled further forward.
 
MALEEKA BLUES – Lost its off hind plate.
 
 
Race 4: HAPPY 40TH BEC Colts, Geldings & Entires BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1000 metres
 
KING RAGNAR – Began awkwardly.
 
MASTER BAYLEE – Race wide without cover.
 
ABDICATING – Laid out in the home straight.
 
WEONA SMARTONE (NZ) - Raced keenly.
 
BIGGIE – Which had not raced for an extended period underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Held up rounding home turn, raced in restricted room between the 400m and 300m.
 
POETIC CHOICE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
 
Race 5: VARIETY RUSSELL SHEEHAN MEMORIAL Class 2 Plate 1200 metres
 
ALL STARS – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
FLY FOR YULONG (IRE) – Jockey R Wiggins reported that as the gelding was first up from a spell it would derive benefit from today’s run.
 
WOODLEY'S GOLD – Laid out rounding the home turn. Near 400m shifted out to improve and bumped with SUZI BEL. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
CONCEALED DYNAMITE – Slow to begin.
 
LADY BRAHMOS – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of straight. Near 300m when attempting a narrow run between STAR BARISTA and LUVACTION was placed close to the heels of LUVACTION.
 
LUVACTION – Raced wide throughout. Jockey R Fradd stated that although the mare raced wide without cover it was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had an increased respiratory rate and mild thumps.
 
IRISH ACE (NZ) – Approaching the 100m was momentarily held up.
 
SUZI BEL – Bumper near the 400m by WOODLEY’S GOLD (J Orman). Jockey J Orman was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
 
Race 6: AUSCREDITS RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 Handicap 1400 metres
 
EPHESIAN – Slow to begin. Steadied near the 400m from the heels of RED GARTER. Passing the 300m shifted out and bumped with NAILED IT NAN.
 
NAILED IT NAN – Inconvenienced after start between JOYS REWARD and PETITE PROMISE. Bumped passing the 300m. Near the 100m raced in restricted between PETITE PROMISE and EPHESIAN which shifted out under pressure away from JOYS REWARD.
 
GOLDNEALA – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.
 
JOY'S REWARD – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Held up rounding home turn and until passing the 150m.
 
RED GARTER – Held up rounding home turn and did not finish off the event. Tactics queried, in particular the reason passing the 1200m when RED GARTER did not maintain the position directly behind BIRKIN BLACK, which then permitted NIC NAT NUI to gain a position directly in front of the mare. Jockey S Thornton stated that her mount was travelling comfortably and at that point, the tempo of the event increased which then permitted NIC NAT NUI to obtain a position. Jockey S Thornton further added that the mare would have been out of its comfort zone if she had have ridden it along to maintain her position.
 
RAMROD – Restrained from wide barrier and settled further back.
 
 
Race 7: BAMPAK Class 4 Handicap 1800 metres
 
BIANCO NUOVO – Laid out rounding home turn and in the home straight. Performed below market expectations. Jockey L Tarrant could offer no explanation for its disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards intend to follow up with trainer S Kendrick in the ensuing days in relation to tonight’s performance.
 
GALAXY GURU – Bumped near the 1400m when AIRLIE MAN, which was over racing shifted out.
 
ENTERPRISE MOSS – Slow to begin.
 
THE POTATO PONTIFF – Laid in in the home straight placing its rider at a disadvantage.
 
AIRLIE MAN – Over raced early when restraining to gain cover.
