Race 1: TAB CREATE YOUR SPRING CALENDAR OF PLAY Maiden Handicap 1800 metres MATERIALISM – Made the home-turn wide on the track. Rider T Harrison dropped her whip leaving the 300 metres. TRADING STOCK – After passing the 300 metres laid in when weakening. TRADUCE – Bumped near 500 metres when FRONT PAGE NEWS shifted out to improve. GOLD CHORUS – Slow to begin. SOUTH SANTO – Raced three wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader near the 1300 meters. Over-raced in the middle stages. FRONT PAGE NEWS – Shifted out to improve near the 500 metres and bumped TRADUCE. CAPTAIN RIDDLE – Made the home-turn wider on the track. SULU'S GIRL – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Race 2: ALL COMPUTER SERVICES BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 2200 metres QUOTANT – Over-raced during middle stages of the event. Rider M Hellyer had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period of 7 days under AR132(5) from midnight 27th September 2020 up to and including midnight 4th October 2020 for using the whip 18 times in total, 4 more than permitted. HIGHLAND SKIPPER – Restrained from heels near the 1800 metres when over-racing. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. CATCH ME LATAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Bumped with POWERS LOOKOUT shortly after the start. Laid in during the early stages of the home straight. SCILAGO – Over-raced in the middle stages of the event. When asked to comment on tactics adopted rider T Harrison stated her instructions were to ride the gelding conservatively as it was its first start over this distance and SCILAGO had previously shown a tendency to over-race at previous starts. SHELTER LADY – Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event. Rider S Lacy was fined the sum of $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip seven times prior to the 100 metres, two more than permitted. POWERS LOOKOUT – Caught three wide in the early stages before progressing forward to lead the event from the 1600 metres. Bumped with CATCH ME LATAR shortly after the start. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance of POWERS LOOKOUT, trainer B Robinson stated instructions were to ride the gelding back in the field however was not overly surprised to see POWERS LOOKOUT progress forward after being caught wide and lead the event as it is a strong staying type that appreciates races over longer distances. He added POWERS LOOKOUT has only been his stable for a short time, and that the gelding appreciated the step-up in distance of today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation. Race 3: SUNCOAST FITNESS QTIS Three-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate 1000 metres BETTER LAD – Raced three wide without cover throughout. CORBIN – Raced three wide with cover throughout. COYNES ROAD – Approaching the 250 metres shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip before being corrected by its rider. GREEN GOLD – Slow to begin. MISTA OMEGA – Slow to begin. Held up near the 500 metres. After passing the 300 metres shifted in when disappointed for run and bumped ZOU ZOU KACANARKIS. Over the final 100 metres was held up for clear running and went to the line without being fully tested. Rider S Thornton stated she had no set instructions as the gelding was having its first race start today and that after being slow to begin settled further back in the field than anticipated and endeavoured to ride the gelding where comfortable. Jockey Thornton added after being held up rounding the home-turn and on entering the home straight the gelding was travelling well but was disappointed for clear running and she s unable to test MISTA OMEGA over the final 100 metres after improving onto the heels of GREEN GOLD. Stewards noted the explanation of S Thornton. PAPERCLIP – Raced four wide without cover throughout. Rider Adam Spinks was fined the sum of $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip seven times prior to the 100 metres, two more than permitted. STRUT – Began awkwardly. Laid in during the early stages of the home straight. ZOU ZOU KACANARKIS – Passing the 250 metres was bumped and became unbalanced by MISTA OMEGA which shifted in. A short distance later was checked away from the heels of COYNES ROAD which shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip before being corrected by its rider. Race 4: BOB JANE T-MART MAROOCHYDORE QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate 1000 metres COOL ESPRESSO – Raced three wide with cover for majority of the event. CURVETTA – Raced three wide without cover for majority of the event. Passing the 400 metres laid out away from LOVE MY SUPER and crowded JUDDER. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed CURVETTA to be displaying signs of tying up. Trainer N McCall was advised a Veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next race start. Trainer N McCall was reprimanded under AR165(3) for leaving the course prior to the prescribed time. ELA BEACH – Laid out passing the 500 metres. LADY SHANGHAI – Raced four wide without cover for majority of the event. LOVE BRISBANE – Held up for clear running between the 300 metres and the 150 metres. LOVE MY SUPER – Began awkwardly. MY GIRL SKY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced greenly throughout. Passing the 200 metres shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running. ROMANTIQUE – Leaving the 400 metres disappointed for a run between JUDDER and CURVETTA. SPILL QUEEN – Began awkwardly. TRIP THE LIGHT – Passing the 500 metres had to be eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of ELA BEACH which laid out at that point. JUDDER – Raced three wide with cover for majority of the event. Crowded for room passing the 400 metres. Race 5: REED RACING OPEN Handicap 1400 metres SABKHAT – Laid out near the 300 metres when placed under pressure. ARTICUS – Jumped out at the start. Held up for clear running between the 400 metres and 200 metres. KINGS FULL – Passing the 300 metres inconvenienced between FABULONH and SABKHAT which laid out. TYCOON STREET – Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover for majority of the event. CORAL BAY – Near the 1100 metres over-raced for a short distance. Held up rounding the home-turn. Approaching the 200 metres shifted out abruptly when placed under pressure. Race 6: BLOOMHILL CANCER CARE Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1000 metres AIR SPIRIT – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home-turn. BLACKBOOTS – Steadied near the 700 metres when crowded for room. Rider R Maloney stated the mare settled further back in the field than anticipated and in his opinion would derive benefit from the run and be suited to races further than that of today’s event. SUNRISE DANCER – Bumped on jumping. Improved onto heels of METRO TRAMP near the 150 metres before shifting in to obtain clear running. ARQUERA – Bumped on jumping. Raced three wide without cover for majority of the event. BEFANA – Held up rounding the home-turn. ZARAFET – Raced three wide without cover for majority of the event. Forced wider rounding the home-turn. Laid out in the home straight proving difficult to fully test over the concluding stages. LOADED AND READY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 7: ACCESS INSULATION SUNSHINE COAST Class 1 Handicap 1300 metres BONAPARTE – Slow to begin. Bumped rounding the home-turn. PURRFECT DEAL – As the mare had not raced for over twelve months, underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Approaching the 1100 metres was steadied to avoid the heels of GLOBAL CHOICE which laid in. Passing the 100 meters was steadied between GLOBAL CHOICE and SISTA ELENORE which laid in under pressure. ZOUZOUZALO – Improved onto heels inside the 100 metres and had to be steadied. GLOBAL CHOICE – Laid in near the 100 metres. EMMABROOKE – Leaving the 400 metres laid in across the heels of SISTA ELENORE. RICHLY SPEAKING – Bumped on jumping. Hung out passing the 800 metres. Raced ungenerously throughout.
