QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT SUNSHINE TURF CLUB SUNSHINE COAST – SUNDAY 3 JANUARY 2021 WEATHER: FINE TRACK RATING: SOFT 6 RAIL: 2m 1200-400m (incl. 1400m + 1000m chutes) True Remainder PENETROMETER: 6.8 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – W.HadleyStewards – T.Hudson, C.Fedrick, B.ConnellClerk of Scales – J.RobinsonJudge – P.Chilton, W EllisVeterinarian – Dr S.McGinnessSwab Attendants – L Chaplin, J PedofskyStarter – R.Hanson GENERAL Due to government covid restrictions, Ben Thompson and Stephanie Thornton were not permitted to attend today’s meeting as they had travelled to Victoria over the Christmas period and as per the governments guidelines, both have been required to test and isolate, until such time that they return a negative result. Rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 1: SOUTHEAST STAINLESS Maiden Handicap 1600 metres CHOUX MAN CHOUX – Near the 1000 metres momentarily crowded by JERRY ZANDA which shifted in before being straightened. Trainer P Duncan was advised due to the poor performance today the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to being permitted to race again. Trainer P Duncan advised stewards that following today’s performance the gelding would now be retired. COME IN SPINNER - Change of tactics: to be ridden further back in attempt to finish off; ridden accordingly. Rider M Rodd reported that his mount over raced and was awkwardly placed on heels near the 1000 metres before being permitted to stride forward. STOCKED AND LOADED – Near the 700 metres inconvenienced and carried wider to avoid CHLOE JADE. After being held up near the 300 metres shifted out over the heels of ARJAYAR to gain clear running. CHELIMO – Near the 1400 metres steadied to avoid the heels of CHOUX MAN CHOUX which shifted in away from heels of JET ESPIRIT. Over raced and raced wide until being permitted to stride before taking up the lead passing the 1000 metres. JET ESPRIT - Jockey Mark Du Plessis was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. GREATEST JOY – Near the 1100 metres become buffeted between RAGI MAC and COME IN SPINNER. CHLOE JADE – Near the 700 metres was checked to avoid the heels of RAGI MAC. RAGI MAC – Near the 1000 metres was steadied after improving onto the heels of CHOUX MAN CHOUX which lost ground. Race 2: MORETON ALL BODY CARE Maiden Plate 1200 metres Rider T Brooker was harmlessly dislodged en route to the barriers when HECANROCKME became fractious upon leaving the mounting yard. KANDANGA MISS – Change of tactics: to be ridden further back from the wide barrier; settled worse than mid field with cover. Rider R Maloney reported that the mare made a respiratory noise during the event. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. STONEFISH – Steadied shortly after the start between HECANROCKME and SHADYVALE SERENADE which shifted out. FLIGHT TO BALI – Rider Mark Du Plessis reported that the filly raced greenly throughout. Race 3: RACE ZONE RACING SUPPLIES BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 2200 metres The start of this race was delayed when SKY ONE underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after kicking out when placed in the barriers. Was subsequently passed suitable to race. SILESIAN – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. DEVINE GREY – Bounded at the start and was then inconvenienced by SILESIAN which shifted out. Near the 1400 metres when the pace steadied, began to over race and was steadied after improving close to the heels of SKY ONE. FINANCIAL – Raced wide without cover until the 1500 metres before obtaining a position outside the leader. Race 4: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1400 metres PHANTOM COURT – Steadied near the 1300 metres when TILLY’S STAR (Apprentice Emily Atkinson) shifted in when not clear. Stewards advised Apprentice Emily Atkinson to exercise more care in similar circumstances. After being steadied near the 1300 metres over raced for a short distance. SPRING NYMPH – Over raced in the middle stages. UNLIKELYOCCURRENCE – Began awkwardly. FAIRY BEAST – Began awkwardly. Race 5: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS Colts, Geldings and Entires BENCHMARK 58 Hand 1400 metres The start of this race was delayed approximately 4 minutes due to GENUINE AL becoming cast in the barriers. GENUINE AL – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after rearing in the barriers and became cast. GENUINE AL was declared a late scratching at 3.03pm on Veterinary advice. The following deductions applicable: 17c in the dollar for all win bets #6 (IGOR)13c in the dollar for all place bets #6 (IGOR)19c in the dollar for all place bets #5 (SHADYVALE STAR)18c in the dollar for all place bets # 3 (RERUN) Trainer P Duncan was advised that GENUINE AL must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. Upon returning to the stable, Trainer P Duncan advised Stewards that GENUINE AL had pulled up sore behind. Stewards notified Trainer P Duncan that GENUINE AL would require veterinary clearance prior to being permitted to start in a race again. SHADYVALE STAR – Raced wide without cover. ABOVE THE SKY – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight was awkwardly placed close to the heels of REDSTONE, shifted in abruptly over the heels of LET’S CONQUER and as a result become unbalanced. BRONZED VENOM - As the gelding had not started in a race for over 12 months, underwent a pre-race veterinary and was passed fit to race. Race 6: ACCESS INSULATION SUNSHINE COAST Class 2 Handicap 1000 metres PLATINUM EUROS – Rider T Brooker stated that her intentions were to be neutral from the barrier however did not anticipate the gelding settling last. Jockey Tiffani Brooker was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip 6 times prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. TOURMASTER – Near the 700 metres laid in and was placed close to the heels of LIEUTENANT. Tactics queried, Rider L Tarrant stated that he was beaten for speed in the early stages of the event so elected to shift down to the fence and follow LIEUTENANT. He further added than in the home straight his intentions were to get to the outside onto the crown of the track however this did not eventuate and the gelding laid in. He then elected to move back to the inside to gain clear running. Race 7: PARKLANDS TAVERN BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres ROUND MOUNTAIN GEM – Raced wide without cover. UNO AMOR - Jockey Larry Cassidy was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 7 times prior to the 100m, two more than permitted. Race 8: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY Class 1 Handicap 1600 metres MAKEDON – Raced wide with cover. Apprentice Kyle Wilson-Taylor was fined $600 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 7 times prior to the 100m, two more than permitted. HIGHLIGHTS - Jockey Michael Rodd was fined $400 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 8 times prior to the 100m, three more than permitted. BELLICOSE – Near the 1200 metres when being steadied to gain cover began to over race. RED RIVER LAD – Raced wide throughout. SKELLIG ISLAND – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Eased down in the home straight. Rider C Meehan reported that the gelding did not feel comfortable throughout the event. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to be suffering from the thumps. GULLFOSS – Slow to begin. FAIRY WAND – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. NICKS – Near the 300 metres steadied when momentarily tightened between RED RIVER LAD and SKELLIG ISLAND which shifted out away from HEARTS DENIED. SIR PELLIAS – Began awkwardly.
