SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
From Nanango 13th Feb 2021 (Race 5) – Trainer M Boland was fined $200 under AR181(3) for failing to scratch PHOENIX FLYER by the prescribed time.

 
Race 1: CH4 SOLUTIONS QTIS Two-Year-Old Class 1 Handicap 1000 metres
 
CARRIBEAN KING – Slow to begin.
 
CRYMENOTEARS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced greenly in the middle stages. Slow to begin.
 
INDEEP – Rider L Tarrant reported the filly did not travel strongly in the middle stages and felt awkward in its action when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of INDEEP revealed lameness and swelling in the near fore tendon. Trainer S Kendrick was advised the filly would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
 
Race 2: STEINDL CONSTRUCTIONS Maiden Plate 1000 metres
 
HE'S IRISH – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the second time and also to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer J Johnson was advised HE’S IRISH would now incur a life-time ban from racing under AR79(6).
 
NORSE MYTHOLOGY – Jumped in the air at the start.
 
PLENTY OF ZIP – Raced three wide for majority of the event.
 
SEOUL MONEY – Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.
 
STRATOBEL – Slow to begin. Obliged to alter course leaving the 200 metres when NORSE MYTHOLOGY shifted out under pressure. App M Savva, rider of NORSE MYTHOLOGY, was reprimanded under AR131(a) and advised to exercise greater care.   
 
SUGARPUSH – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 3: ALL ASPECT SPRAYING BENCHMARK 75 Handicap 1400 metres
 
VINCO – Bumped at the start. Obliged to race in restricted room between the 1200 metres and the 800 metres. R Maloney, rider of VINCO, was fined $500 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100 metres, two more than permitted.
 
THE IRONS – Jumped in at the start and bumped VINCO.  Raced three wide throughout.
 
BROCSON – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 4: AD MOOR MEDICAL PTY LTD Maiden Plate 1400 metres
 
SO THOUGHTFUL – Raced three wide for majority of the event.
 
DOUBLE BARRELL – At the start restrained from the wide barrier to a rearward position closer to the rails. Obliged to alter course abruptly near the 200 metres to obtain clear running. Rider J Orman reported the gelding was inclined to hang out and race greenly for the majority of the event. He added DOUBLE BARRELL did not travel comfortably in the early and middle stages of the event and was doing its best work over the concluding stages. Stewards noted the explanation of J Orman.
 
EL MAESTRO – Tightened shortly after the start. Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and obliged to alter course near the 350 metres to obtain clear running.
 
ENRIQUE – Buffeted between runners on jumping.
 
SMART STAR PRINCE – Began awkwardly.
 
JUST CALL MY NAME – Raced three wide without cover for majority of the event.
 
TONI TOO – Slow to begin.
 
BARTA LINES – Had to be steadied when racing in restricted room near the 1300 metres. Momentarily crowded for room near the 1000 metres and had to be restrained when JUST CALL MY NAME shifted in when not fully clear. B El Issa, rider of JUST CALL MY NAME, was reprimanded under AR131(a). Raced three wide with cover for majority of the event.
 
DIVINE GOLD – Over-raced in the early stages. When the pace steadied near the 1000 metres over-raced on heels. Raced in restricted room near the 900 metres.
 
DUTCH DELIGHT – When the pace steadied near the 1000 metres over-raced on heels and continued to over-race in the middle stages.
 
 
Race 5: THE BIG BOING Class 4 Handicap 1000 metres
 
SPIRIT OF AQUADA – Began awkwardly. Disappointed for a run near the 150 metres. Rider B Thompson reported it was his intention to race in a more forward position however after beginning awkwardly settled in a rearward position. He added the horse was making an abnormal respiratory noise over the concluding stages of the event. Trainer G Andrews stated he was disappointed with the overall performance of SPIRIT OF AQUADA and was of the opinion the horse was not suited racing back in the field and is better suited when racing on the outside of runners. Mr Andrews added he would advise Stewards of any condition which may come to light in the coming days.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DYNAMIC VERSE – Held up rounding the home turn and near the 200 metres obliged to shift out to obtain clear running.
 
BLUE ODYSSEY – T Brooker, rider of BLUE ODYSSEY, was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100 metres, two more than permitted.
 
READY BABE – Trainer M Currie was fined $100 under LR67 for the late declaration of rider on the mare. Jumped out at the start.
 
THERE YOU ARE – Began awkwardly and jumped in at the start.
 
WATCHMEN – Crowded between runners on jumping. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Near the 200 metres when weakening raced in restricted room and had to be steadied.
 
 
Race 6: CARAVAN WORLD RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 Handicap 1000 metres
 
HONEY BABY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
OVIDIUS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
ZOOFARI – Obliged to alter course near the 400 metres when HONEY BABY shifted out. K Wilson-Taylor, rider of HONEY BABY, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
SHE'S A MITZY – Hung in during the early stages of the event and again in the home straight.
 
CRISTOVAO – Slow to begin.
 
CLAIRVUE SPIRIT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first time and to be sore in the near hind leg. Trainer T Thomas was advised CLAIRVUE SPIRIT would be stood down for a period of 3 months and must gallop over 1000 metres in the presence of Steward prior to its next race start.
 
 
Race 7: ROCKTEK EARTHMOVING Class 1 Plate 1200 metres
 
BAMBALAM – Checked from heels when crossed near 900 metres.
 
BARTALUMBA – Raced wide throughout.
 
NITROGLYCERINE – Saddle required readjustment on arrival at the barriers.
 
ROZEIRA – Raced in restricted room near the 600 metres.
 
KIKI COCO – Raced three wide with cover for majority of the event.
 
UNLIKELYOCCURRENCE – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 400 metres and 200 metres.
 
VIOLATION – Bumped heavily at the start.
 
SENTIMENTAL MISS – Jumped out at the start and bumped VIOLITION. Raced in restricted room near the 600 metres. Raced three wide with cover for majority of the event. Improved onto heels near the 300 metres and had to be steadied.
 
BROWN LINES – Raced three wide for majority of the event.
 
 
Race 8: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1600 metres
 
REDSTONE – Stewards questioned rider T Brooker regarding tactics adopted from the 600 metres where it appeared there was an opportunity for her to follow MAKEUP and shift wider from the 400 metres which would have afforded her mount a clear and unimpeded run to end of the race, rather than improve to the inside of that horse at the 600 metres which resulted in her being unable to secure clear running until near the 200 metres.
Ms Brooker explained she was mindful of trainer N McCall’s instructions which were to avoid shifting wider on the turn and furthermore to avoid being wide in the home straight, adding trainer McCall was of the opinion REDSTONE does not run out a strong 1600 metres and for this reason she therefore elected to save ground to the inside at that point of the race. Ms Brooker further stated that MAKEUP and INSTRUMENTS had not  been horses she had wanted to follow into the event and when an opportunity presented itself to improve onto the back of IPSO NEM FELEK she attempted to secure this position as she was of the opinion that runner was a winning chance.
Trainer McCall gave evidence that supported jockey Brooker’s comments.
Ms Brooker also advised Stewards in her view given the manner in which REDSTONE finished the race off when afforded clear running she did not feel her mount would have won the race had it been afforded clear running earlier.
Stewards, after considering Ms Brooker’s comments and further perusal of the patrol footage, were satisfied that Ms Brooker’s actions were not so unreasonable to hold her culpable under the rules and were not satisfied had jockey Brooker improved wider on the track that the horses’ finishing position would have been altered.
 
ODDFELLOW – On arrival at barriers underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection and was cleared to start. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
INSTRUMENTS – When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, trainers representative Mr A Bruggermann stated INSTRUMENTS did not appreciate the firm track at its most recent start. He added the horse performs better on softer tracks and tonight, with blinkers on again and racing on the soft track, a forward showing was expected by the stable. Stewards noted the explanation.
