ARTIE'S DESTINY – Slow to begin. Rider M Cahill reported the gelding laid in under pressure in the home straight and suggested to connections that they experiment with gear changes prior to ARTIE’S DESTINY next race start. SOCK'EMSID – Inconvenienced and steadied from heels near the 100 metres before shifting in to secure clear running a short distance later. HEAR HEAR – Raced greenly in the early stages and near the 900 metres laid in and contacted the running rail. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the off-hind pastern. FUNNY MONEY – Delayed start when proved difficult to load. Trainer S Kendrick was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s barrier manners. Race 2: BUNDY CHOP SHOP BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1600 metres MURLESS (NZ) – Rider K Yoshida was questioned regarding tactics whereby the gelding led in today’s event and furthermore when doing so by a significant margin. Jockey Yoshida stated it was not his intention to lead and had allowed SPARTAN JET to cross his mount in the early stages however then became aware that he would be caught in a three wide position and therefore pressured MURLESS for a short distance to stride forward to lead the event from the 1400 metres. He added after obtaining the lead his mount over-raced until near the 1100 metres and continued to travel strongly in the lead in the middle stages. Furthermore, he added he was not aware he had established such a significant lead in the middle stages as he was only concerned with how his mount was travelling. Following a review of the patrol footage stewards noted the explanation of jockey Yoshida. KING DINISTY – Jockey B El Issa was questioned regarding tactics adopted in the early stages and also whether an opportunity existed near the 1000 metres to shift wider and improve in order to obtain a position closer to the leader which had established a significant lead at that point of the race. Jockey El Issa stated in hindsight, when KING DINISTY began very well he would have been better served pressing forward to cross runners to his inside given that MURLESS went on to establish a significant lead. Jockey El Issa further stated he had given consideration to shifting out around ALL BUT GONE near the 1000 metres however was concerned the rider of that horse would have quickened the pace, which would have caused his mount to be caught three wide. Stewards noted the explanation of jockey El Issa accepting that he was not to know the rider of MURLESS would establish such a significant lead after he had obtained cover in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. SPARTAN JET – Rider N Tomizawa was questioned regarding tactics adopted in the middle stages when the eventual winner MURLESS established a significant lead in the event and whether he had opportunity to attempt to increase his mounts tempo in the middle stages in order to obtain a position closer to the leader. Jockey Tomizawa stated he had given consideration to pressuring his mount to improve passing the 1200 metres , however with concerns that SPARTAN JET was having its first start over 1600 metres, he was reluctant to pressure the horse from that point of the race. Following a review of the patrol footage stewards noted the explanation of jockey Tomizowa. ALL BUT GONE – Jockey T Wolfgram was questioned as to whether an opportunity existed in the middle stages to improve the tempo of his mount in an attempt to improve its position in relation to MURLESS which had established a significant break at that point of the race. He explained his mount’s established racing pattern is to settle back in the field and as such did not wish to pressure his horse which in his view would have been detrimental to its performance. Jockey Wolfgram added that from the 800 metres ALL BUT GONE commenced to travel poorly and even if he had wanted to improve his position he did not feel his mount would have quickened as the gelding was under significant pressure from the 600 metres. Following a review of the patrol footage stewards noted the explanation of jockey Wolfgram. Slow to begin.
