Race 1: CANADIAN CLUB QTIS Two-Year-Old Class 1 Handicap
1400 metres

APPLE TART – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SPIRIT MEISTER. When asked to comment, rider R Maloney stated the filly raced keenly in the early and middle stages and in his opinion is better suited to races over a shorter distance than that of today. A post-race sample was taken from APPLE TART.

SPIRIT MEISTER – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

Race 2: MAKERS MARK Maiden Plate 1000 metres

TYCOON CRUISER – Jumped out at the start and bumped KNOCKKNEE.

WITH EDGE – Raced very keenly in the early stages and approaching the 700 metres became awkwardly placed at the heels of RELIABLE RUBY which shifted in. M McGillivray, rider of RELIABLE RUBY, was advised to exercise greater care. A short distance later, when over-racing, shifted wider on the track.

ZEPHYR CRUISER – Near the 600 metres steadied from the heels of WITH EDGE. When asked to comment on his riding over the final 200 metres, B El Issa stated he was of the view that the gelding resented the whip and was inclined to bound and then changed strides on a number of occasions approaching the finish line and therefore elected to ride hands and heels over the concluding stages. Stewards noted the explanation of B El Issa.

KNOCKKNEE – Bumped at the start.

RELIABLE RUBY (NZ) – After breaking away from the lead pony in the saddling enclosure, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and cleared to start. Began awkwardly. Rider M McGillivray reported his saddle shifted back during the event placing him at some disadvantage. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the near hind fetlock.

Race 3: JIM BEAM WHITE QTIS Three-Year-Old Colts and Geldings
Maiden Handicap 1000 metres

KEETA – Raced four wide without cover throughout.

SURFIE BOY – Slow to begin. Leaving the 800 metres commenced to race very keenly and despite the efforts of its rider shifted out near the 600 metres crowding PAPERCLIP which had to be steadied.

THAT'LLDOTOO – Steadied from the heels of SURFIE BOY near the 400 metres when that runner shifted out to improve.

GAVE US UP – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

INALOO – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

LUCKY ENUFF – Slow to begin. Momentarily steadied from the heels of the tiring YOU CHOOSE near the 150 metres, then obliged to shift to the inside to obtain clear running a short distance later.

PAPERCLIP – Began awkwardly. Crowded for room and had to be steadied near the 600 metres. Raced greenly and laid in rounding the home turn.

Race 4:  JIM BEAM BLACK QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Handicap 1000 metres

HOPEFUL DREAM – Rider B Thompson reported the filly felt awkward in its action in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed poor post-race recovery.

KAZZA'S JET – Fractious after being loaded into the barriers. Bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.

FIFTY FOUR SQUARES – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels near the 500 meters. Held up for a short distance rounding the home turn. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

GOD'S ANGEL – On returning to the enclosure the filly blundered, dislodging rider M Kennedy. A post-race veterinary examination revealed shin soreness in both front legs. Trainer L Wanless advised GOD’S ANGEL would now be spelled.  Apprentice M Kennedy was examined by club doctor and cleared to fulfill her remaining engagements.

KEEN AS A BEAN – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

ROSEAMI – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

Race 8: MOUNT FRANKLIN BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1000 metres

The start of this event was delayed approximately 6 minutes due to the on-course veterinary surgeon attending to a horse which had competed earlier in the meeting. On arrival at the barriers SUPER FREAK underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently found to be lame in the off hind leg and declared a late scratching at 5:28pm.

On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on SUPER FREAK refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
