GENERAL
Apprentice S Tomlinson not riding at today’s meeting due to illness, riding changes as per summary.
 
Race 1:HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY Maiden Handicap 1600 metres
 
ALLY’S BOY – Near the 1400m improved onto heels and shifted out.
 
BOOM RAIDER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. After being caught wide in the early stages was permitted to stride forward and take up a position outside the leader near the 1200m. Performed below market expectations, apprentice K Wilson-Taylor reported the filly to have made an abnormal respiratory noise during the event. A post-race veterinary examination identified a poor post-race recovery. Trainer T Button was notified that he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance with satisfactory results of an endoscopic examination prior to the horse racing or trialing again. A post-race swab was also taken for analysis.
 
DAME MARGOT – Inconvenienced entering the home straight when HARD EIGHT shifted out to obtain clearing
 
EARN OUT – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
FORCE ME (NZ) – Change of tactics – Trainer A Boyd advised that the filly will be ridder further back than its previous starts and was ridden accordingly.
 
HARD EIGHT – Near the 600m when awkwardly placed at heels shifted out. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
LUNA AMANTE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Inconvenienced near the 1400m when ALLY’S BOY shifted out to avoid the heels.
 
ZOFF THE BOSS – Raced three wide throughout. Near the 600m restrained when tightened for room between LUNA AMANTE which shifted in marginally and HARD EIGHT which shifted out to obtain clear running. Jockey G Cartwright was issued a reprimand under AR131(a).
 
 
Race 2: HOT 91 LADIES OAKS DAY 28TH MAY QTIS Two-Year-Old
Maiden Plate 1000 metres
 
 
MILLIONS STAR - Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until a point near the 300m
 
PRINCE OF BOOM – Tightened between runners on jumping and lost ground.
 
SIGNAL ROW – Began awkwardly and tightened between runners shortly after.
 
THATFEELSBETTER – Tightened between runners on jumping.
 
LEXUS LADY – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
NIZHONI LASS – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
SINGLE DIZIRE – Began awkwardly and shortly after was tightened between runners and lost ground.
 
MISHANI DANCER – Performed below market expectations and weakened noticeably in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination identified poor post-race recovery. Trainer L Ross reported that in light of todays’ performance he would now be sending the filly for a short spell.
 
 
Race 3: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS QTIS Three-Year-Old Colts
and Geldings Maiden 1000 metres
 
BAKUHATSU – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
CHIEF MONDO – Over-raced early and middle stages.
 
CLAIRVUE JET – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
KICK HI – Bumped with KINKUNA near the 300m.
 
KINKUNA – Raced three wide with cover throughout. Blundered near the 500m. Inconvenienced entering the home straight when awkwardly placed at the heels of QUACKERY which shifted out to improve. Near the 300m shifted in under pressure and bumped heavily with KICK HI and became unbalanced.
 
MOB BUSTER – Began awkwardly. Shifted out under pressure approaching the finishing line.
 
QUACKERY – Rider B Thompson reported that his mount hung out from 500m. Also stated that in his opinion the gelding would be more suited to step up in distance to 1200m. Momentarily lost the use of his rein near the 300m.
 
SURFIE BOY – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure in home straight.
 
Race 4: ACCESS INSULATION SUNSHINE COAST QTIS Three-Year-Old
Fillies Maiden Plate 1000 metres
 
CHICAMO – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
DEEP HEART – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
I'M MAGICAL – Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination identified the filly to be lame in the off-hind leg and suffering from a tendon injury tendon injury. After being treated with pain relief was transported to a local Veterinary Practice to be further assessed.  Trainer B Lockwood was notified that he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance and officially trial in the presence of the Stewards.
 
ISLA'S DAY – Began very awkwardly, almost dislodging its rider and losing significate ground.
 
Race 5: PARKLANDS TAVERN BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1800 metres
 
OCTAVIAN – Due to the slow pace being set in the early stages the gelding over-raced before being forced wider near the 1300m. Continued to race wide until approaching the 1100m. When the pace again slacked approaching the 900m the geldings rider was obliged to shift out to avoid heels and was then ridden forward aggressively to improve into the event and raced wide for the remainder.
 
WARSET (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced in the early stages due to the slow tempo which was set.
 
THATFRIDAYFEELING (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
SID – When restrained to obtain cover approaching the 1200m over-raced at heels, before shifting out and was awkwardly placed at the heels of NO INUENDO when leaving the 1200m. Attempted to improved after passing the 800m, was disappointed for a run and had to be steadied.
 
NIATROSS – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages and was permitted to stride forward to the lead near the 1200m.
 
NO INUENDO - Jockey A Allen was fined $500 for use of the whip 7 times prior to the 100m, which is 2 more than permitted. AR132(7)(a)(ii)
 

BOLD DELAGO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Rider L Tarrant reported concerns with the geldings actions in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not identify any abnormal findings.
 
Race 6: MARY AMOS MEMORIAL Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
JAKKALBERRY FINN (NZ) – Bumped on jumping. Rider B Thompson lost the use of his rein over the concluding stages.
 
BIEN CUIT – After passing the 900m bumped heavily by MIDNIGHT DRUMMER and as a result clipped heels, blundered. Raced wide for the remainder.
 
MIDNIGHT DRUMMER – Began awkwardly. Commenced to over-race and raced greenly hanging both in and out throughout the event. Rider N Tomizawa reported that he was unable to fully test his mount in the home straight. Trainer A Cowell was advised that the gelding would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing next.
 
ENTERPRISE MAXIMUS – Began awkwardly. Passing the 900m was bumped heavily, forced wider and as a result raced wide for the remainder.
 
ZEPHYR CRUISER – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
SHE'S AN EAGLE – Slow to begin. Passing the 900m was bumped heavily and raced wide as a result.
 
MISSFANCYFEET – Tightened between runners on jumping. Near the 900m shifted out and away from another runner and made heavy contact with JENO.
 
CALATHIEL – Tightened between runners on jumping, checked and lost ground.
 
MISHANI FORCE – Began awkwardly and bumped with JAKALBERRY FINN (NZ).
 
JENO - Passing the 900m was bumped heavily and forced wider and as a result raced wide for the remainder.
 
ORDESA – Tightened between runners on jumping and lost ground. Passing the 900m was bumped heavily and forced wider, as a result raced wide for the remainder.
 
TIME SAVER – Apprentice M Wishart who was unable to claim her full allowance, was fined $200 under AR143(14)(a).
 
Race 7:SKY RACING Fillies and Mares Class 1 Plate 1200 metres
 
INDUCEMENT – Slow to begin.
 
MASSABIELLE – Tightened between runners and lost ground on jumping. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
SPIRIT RICH – Performed below market expectations. Rider W Peel reported that her mount travelled well however failed to respond to her riding after passing the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination identified the mare to be distressed with nasal discharge, also showing signs of tying up.  Trainer R Heathcote was notified that he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance with satisfactory results of an endoscopic examination prior to the horse racing or trialing again. Trainer R Heathcote was advised that in the absence of any clinical findings to explain the performance the Stewards require the mare to officially trial. A post-race swab was also taken for analysis.
 
STATEMENT OF FAITH – Checked from the heels of GRAND near the 800m and continued to be restrained from that runners heels until being obliged to check again approaching the 500m. As a result of these incidents lost significant ground.
 
GRAND – Began awkwardly. Commenced to hang from the 900m and took no competitive part in the event from that point onwards. A post-race veterinary examination did not identify any abnormal findings. Trainer B Gorman was advised that the filly would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
 
THREE PHASE – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
BOOM CHUGGA LUGGA – Slow to begin
 
Stewards inquired into comments made in the enclosure by trainer C Saunders toward trainer B Gorman following the running of this event. After taking evidence from C Saunders she was reprimanded under AR228(b) in that she misconducted herself by making inappropriate comments to Mr Gorman in relation to his horse GRAND.
 
Race 8:TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1
Plate 1200 metres
 
A BIG CHANCE – Stood flat footed and lost significant ground. Near the 50m was steadied when racing in restricted room to the outside of DURUNDUR LAD and BELISTIC MAN which shifted in under pressure. Apprentice N Fazackerley was reprimanded under AR131(a).
 
BRAZEN FORCE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
ONE MORE CASTE – Disappointed for a run approaching the 500m and had to be steadied.
 
BELISTIC MAN – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
EPIC PLAYER – Steadied and lost ground near the 800m when placed in restricted room to inside of EXAMPLES which was taken in by SEDGEMOOR which shifted in momentarily. Jockey R Maloney was reprimanded under AR131(a) for shifting in when insufficiently clear.  Following this incident was awkwardly placed between runners and was obliged to steady. Lost whip near the 100m.
 
EXAMPLES – Over-raced in the early stages. After passing the 600m improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Raced greenly in the straight.
 
FIGHTING MAD – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
CHECKERS (NZ) – Raced three wide throughout.
 
Jockey B Stewart was examined by the Club’s Doctor following his ride in this event and stood down from his remaining rides. Riding changes as per summary.

BROCKY – Slow to begin. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
MOTOMISS – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
