Race 3: HARCOURTS NOOSA Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 2 H’cap 1000 metres

BE WATER MY FRIEND – Slow to begin, inconvenienced shortly afterward losing ground. Jockey J Bayliss was asked to comment on the performance and indicated that the horse was somewhat fractious in the barriers and this resulted in the gelding being slow to begin. He further stated that near the 500m when directing BE WATER MY FRIEND out to obtain clear running the gelding became unbalanced. He also informed Stewards that he had been instructed to shift to the outside of the field to secure clear running as soon as possible and not to improve between runners. It was also his opinion that whilst the horse peaked on its run over the concluding stages a step up in distance would be beneficial.

EXPLOSIVE TRUTH - Raced wide without cover.

SQUIRREL HUNTER (NZ) – Inclined to lay in at a point approaching the 700m and raced for a short distance slightly inside the line of the running rail when the chute connected with the course proper. Shortly thereafter SPILLENIA shifted in and away from DARE TO SHARE resulting in SPILLENIA shifting across the running of SQUIRREL HUNTER causing that horse to be checked.

THE DIAMOND – Buffeted between runners on jumping away, lost ground.

OVIDIUS – Slow to begin.

MORGAN'S SMILE – Obliged to steady from heels near the 700m.

Race 4: PAVECTION Maiden Plate 1000 metres

The start of this race was delayed when SUZIGAL suffered a head injury after becoming fractious in the barriers and acting on veterinary advise was declared a late scratching by stewards at 2.27pm.  The start of the race was further delayed when DELYTH and WIN BURN broke through the barriers and DELYTH dislodged its rider before galloping a significant distance, in this incident QUEEN SAFARI also became fractious and both DELYTH 2:30pm and QUEEN SAFARI 2:31pm were declared late scratchings.  As a result of this incident the barriers were damaged and all runners were returned to the tie up stalls. This event was rescheduled to 3.40pm as remedial work was required on the barriers, along with SUZIGAL requiring veterinary treatment after being transported to a local Veterinary Clinic and DELYTH requiring on-course veterinary treatment. Following consultation with trainer S. Kendrick and considering the distance that WIN BURN had travelled after breaking through the barriers Stewards also ordered WIN BURN to be a late scratching at 2.58pm.  At this time Stewards ordered that acting under BR46(2)(a) all monies invested to this point be refunded and all betting be re-opened.

DOCTOR JACK – Over-raced approaching the 700m and shifted wider on the track, raced wide from that point onwards.

FASTLING – Bumped heavily after the start and had to be checked.

OUR MIRAGE – On return to scale Apprentice A Thompson weighed in excess of 1/2kg underweight, therefore acting under AR209(2)(a), OUR MIRAGE was disqualified from this event. Evidence was subsequently taken from Apprentice Thompson and Trainer L Abbott, which established that all gear Apprentice Thompson weighed out with was carried during the event and that apprentice Thompson believed that the significant delay between weighing out and returning to scale, in addition to OUR MIRAGE becoming fractious when returning to the enclosure following the barriers issues, caused him to dismount and run whilst leading OUR MIRAGE and during this time he was sweating heavily, which he believed caused him to weigh in underweight. After considering the evidence and the circumstances, stewards accepted the explanation and took no further action.

ALAN ALAN STEVE – Raced wide without cover throughout.

DELYTH – Broke through the front of the barrier, dislodging the rider and galloped a considerable distance before being recaptured. Withdrawn by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 2.30pm.  DELYTH sustained a significant laceration to its head requiring veterinary treatment, Trainer C Munce was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to next start. Jockey B. Elissa was examined by QAS Officers and the club Doctor, subsequently stood down and advised that a doctors certificate was required prior to riding again.

FIFTY FOUR SQUARES – Raced wide throughout.

FILLY ROCKS – Slow to begin.

SUZIGAL – Fractious in the barrier sustaining a significant head injury, inspected by the Veterinary officer and withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 2.27pm. As Apprentice MacPherson was unable to fulfill her engagement, PIZZO was declared a late scratching at 4.23pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on PIZZO be refunded with the following deductions to apply:

1st – 4c the win, 3c the place
2nd – 7c the place
3rd – 8c the place

KERMAKAYA – Slow to being. Raced wide throughout. Lost the off-fore plate in running.

LOVE DEMON – Fractious in the barriers, inspected by the Veterinary officer passed to take its place in the field.

JACINDA BELLE – Jockey M. Du Plessis reported the mare felt awkward in its action during the event. JACINDA BELLE was inspected by the Veterinary officer who found the mare to be lame in the off-hid leg. Trainer B. Lockwood advised a Veterinary certificate of soundness is required prior to JACINDA BELLE next start.

TAVISTOCK SQUARE (NZ) – Slow to begin.

MANHATTAN MOJO – Wide throughout.

GIVEITALLALI – Jockey J. Murphy reported after the race that the mare felt awkward in its action and in particular its off-foreleg. PLENTY – Over-raced badly in the early and middle stages due to the moderate tempo that was set. Held up for clear running passing the 600m and was disappointed for a run approaching the 500m and had to be checked.

MR WONG – Slow to begin.

GLAMOUR FOX – On returning to scale GLAMOUR FOX shied dislodging jockey M. Du Plessis. Jockey Du Plessis examined by the club Medical Officer and cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements.

CENTREFIRE – Jockey B Stewart, the rider of LUSKIN HERO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that when passing the 1000m he allowed LUSKIN HERO to shift in when not sufficiently clear of CENTREFIRE causing this runner to be checked. Jockey B Stewarts license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 4/10/2021 and to conclude midnight 15/10/2021.

Race 8: NOOSA WATERFRONT BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1600 metres

IPSO NEM FELEK – Disappointed for a run approaching the 100m and had to be steadied. Following the event Apprentice J. Molloy was kicked in the leg when unsaddling his mount. Apprentice Molloy was examined by the Medical Officer and cleared of any injuries.

THE INVESTIGATOR – Raced wide in the early stages of the race.

JOY'S REWARD – Tightened for room on jumping, lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

WINSTON BLUE – When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance of WINSTON BLUE, trainer N. Hocking advisedthat he believed the addition of a crossover noseband to the horses gear had benefited the performance and whilst the horses form may appear disappointing he was pleased with all three starts that the gelding has had since joining his stable. He noted that WINSTON BLUE had not been beaten far in two starts over less favourable distances and whilst the gelding had finished last at its most recent start, he believed that the slow tempo set during the early stages of this event resulted in WINSTON BLUE being unable to finish the race off strongly from back in the field, when the race developed into a sprint home.

AMBER BLONDE – Inconvenienced after passing the 400m when inclined to lay in. Continued to lay in for the remainder of the event.

RUSSIAN ROMEO – Slow to begin.
