Race 1: DOUBLE R GROUP BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1800 metres

The starting position of this event was moved forward a short distance when it was established that due to the rail position, the barriers would be situated on a newly installed crossing. This decision was made to reduce the possibility of horses’ slipping on jumping away.

CABOCHON LIL – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground.

SHEBRINGZIT – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground.

WAIKATO – Over-raced and proved very difficult to settle in the early and middle stages of the event. Rider S Cormack reported in hindsight he may have been better served in allowing WAIKATO stride forward from the 1200 metres when the pace of the race steadied. Trainer S Cole was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of WAIKATO.

Mr Sawden added with the addition of blinkers tonight he was confident of a forward showing.  Stewards noted the explanation.

NO BETTER AFFAIRE – Following the horses’ performance tonight Trainer D Hansen advised it would now be his intention to spell NO BETTER AFFAIRE.

Race 4: CARGO TRANSPORT SYSTEMS Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres
