QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT SUNSHINE COAST – MONDAY 27TH DECEMBER 2021 WEATHER – Overcast TRACK RATING – Soft 7, Heavy 8 retrospective to Race 8. RAIL – 3 metres entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – J WilliamsonStewards – K Daly, C Fedrick, C SimpsonClerk of Scales – R HansonJudge – P ChiltonVeterinarian – Dr S McGinnisSwab Attendants – J Pedofsky, L ChaplinStarter – W Abbey GENERAL Due to traffic delays resulting in the late arrival of horses and licensees on course, all races were put back one time slot with Race 8 to be run at 5:39pm. Following the fall in Race 3 which required V Venkaya being transported to hospital, all races were further put back one race time slot with Race 8 to be run at 6:09pm. Due to current Covid restrictions, Stewards permitted the following weight variation:Race 5 – STROLL – B Nothdurft – 55.5kgs (+0.5kg) Race 1: SAUNDERS ELECTRICS - 60 YEARS Maiden Plate 1200 metres MANHATTAN MOJO – Leaving the 200m when weakening, was tightened for room and had to be restrained when CHOSEN DISTANCE, which had a tendency to lay in, shifted in under pressure. C Meehan, rider of CHOSEN DISTANCE, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. SIR EX BE – Raced three wide with cover in the early and middle stages of the event. Improved onto the heels of THEEAGLEHASLANDED passing the 700m and was then obliged to shift out and raced wide from that point. THEEAGLEHASLANDED – Bumped at the start. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. BIRMINGHAM – Jumped out at the start and bumped RELAIDE. Improved onto the heels of GOD’S ANGEL passing the 700m and was then obliged to shift out raced wide from that point. Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.REALAIDE – Bumped on jumping away. SIMASUE – As was delayed arriving on course due to traffic delays, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the track and was cleared to start. Shortly after the start raced in restricted room and had to be steadied. Raced greenly for the majority of the event, particularly when placed under pressure in the home straight. GOD'S ANGEL – Slow to begin. KERRISDALE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the off foreleg, consistent with having been galloped on during the event. ATREVIDA – Held up for clear running between the 500m and the 200m. Race 2: HUNTED QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1600 metres DUTCH GOLD – When the pace slackened passing the 800m had to be restrained from heels. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. TAREX (NZ) – As was delayed arriving on course due to traffic delays, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the track and was cleared to start. Raced three wide in the early stages of the event. When shifting out to improve leaving the 500m bumped with SAVAGAL. DETOUR – Shifted wider from the 700m to improve LATE NIGHT DEVIL – Raced four wide in the early stages of the event before progressing forward to obtain the lead at the 800m. PEARLS 'N' PIMMS – Raced wide with cover until a point near the 800m. SAVAGAL (NZ) – Crowded on jumping and lost ground. Bumped when TAREX shifted out to improve leaving the 500m. JUNGLELAND – Forced wider on the track passing the 600m. Race 3: BR SOLICITORS Maiden Plate 1800 metres BONJOUR MATE – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the gelding was readjusted. GENTLE PRINCE –Severely checked shortly after the start when SPIRITUAL commenced to buck and shifted out abruptly. Raced three wide for the majority of the event. SPIRITUAL – Blundered approaching the 100m resulting in V Venkaya being dislodged. V Venkaya was attended to by QAS staff and transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for further treatment. After taking initial evidence from several riders in the event, an inquiry into this incident was adjourned to a time and date to be confirmed. SPIRITUAL, which suffered an injury to the nearside shoulder in this incident, was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. GAME STAR – Commenced to buck a short distance after the start and shifted out abruptly making heavy contact with the outside fence resulting in M Castle being dislodged. M Castle was examined by the club doctor and stood down from her remaining engagements. M Castle was advised she must obtain a medical clearance prior to resuming race riding. A post-race veterinary examination of GAME STAR revealed a laceration to the nearside pastern and the presence of blood in both nostrils due to external trauma. C Cousins, trainer of GAME STAR, was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance and must also trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Race 4: PHILLIPS PHYSIO QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1000 metres BAG OF WHITT – Fractious after being loaded into the barriers. Jumped in at the start bumping heavily with ELOHIM. KING OF WANCHAI – Became awkward in its action near the 900m. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. ALPHA JANE – Held up rounding the home turn until near the 300m. ELOHIM – Bumped heavily at the start and lost ground. MEDIA SCANDAL – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event. STROLL – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event. TEQUILA DANCER – Fractious after being mounted in the enclosure momentarily breaking away from its attendant. Raced greenly in the home straight and when placed under pressure laid in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Race 5: IAT TRANSPORT Class 2 Plate 1000 metres ZINGALONG – Near the 100m attempted to savage ONE SHY RUBY. Trainer T Miller was advised ZINGALONG must trial prior to its next race start. DURUNDUR LAD – Began awkwardly and lost ground. NAYTELLRHI BIRD – Trainer S Essery was fined $100 under LR67 for the late declaration of rider on the mare. As M Castle was injured Stewards permitted A Spinks to ride NAYTELLRHI BIRD. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. SO BE VENUS – After becoming fractious in the float when being transported to the track, underwent a veterinary examination and was found to be lame in the near-hind leg. Representative for trainer L Abbott was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start. Race 6: PARK AND CO BLI BLI Class 4 Handicap 1400 metres ALL TO DO – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. MAESTOSO – Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run near the 400m before being obliged to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running. ZAWADI (NZ) – Held up rounding turn. EARN OUT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Race 7: DESIGN BY DANNI BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1600 metres STAR STATUS – After becoming fractious in the float when being transported to the track, underwent a veterinary examination and was found to be lame in the off-hind leg. Representative for trainer L Abbott was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start. PERNELL – Slow to begin. BROCSON – Slow to begin. DEE DAY DIVA – When asked to comment on tactics adopted rider L Kilner stated her intentions were not to lead however after beginning well and with a lack of pace shown by runners to the inside, she allowed DEE DAY DIVA to stride forward and lead the event from the 1400 metres. Race 8: MONTANA'S ON BUDERIM BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1300 metres Due to heavy rain prior to the running of this race, the track was downgraded retrospectively to a Heavy 8. REDSTONE – Crowded on jumping and lost ground. IRISH THUNDER – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. DOOMANI (NZ) – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. POUPEE – Trainer S Kendrick was fined $100 under LR67 for the late declaration of rider on the mare. RIP CITY – Raced three wide without cover throughout the event. FIGHTING MAD – Bumped at the start when CHIDALLY jumped out. Rider B Thompson reported the horse was not comfortable on the rain affected surface and as a result was obliged to pressure FIGHTING MAD in the early stages to hold a position. ROCK ON DESTINY – Tightened between runners a short distance after the start and lost ground. CHICADILLY – Jumped out abruptly at the start.
