Due to current Covid restrictions Stewards permitted the following weight variations:
 
Race 5: BROCSON – J Stanley 56kg (+0.5kg)

Race 8: CRIME WAVE – M Potgieter 54.5kg (+0.5kg)
 
 
Race 1: 1 MOBECA INTERNAL LININGS & PARTITIONS Maiden Handicap (POLY TRACK) 1000 metres
 
JUST SO FANCY (NZ) – Fractious leaving the enclosure and reluctant to proceed to the barriers, causing a delay. Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Trainer J Johnston was advised JUST SO FANCY must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Rider T Brooker reported the saddle on the mare shifted back in the early and middle stages of the event placing her at some disadvantage.
 
KAPOW TAUPAU (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
BOLTING LEO – Apprentice A Jones, rider of BOLTING LEO, was reminded of her obligations under AR131(b) to ride her mounts out fully to the end of the race. Rider A Jones dropped her whip at the entrance to the home straight.
 
DAULAT KIITIBAZEBA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
FREEDOM AVENUE – Slow to begin.
 
MARCIA AURELIA – Trainer B Healey was fined $100 under LR67 for the late declaration of rider on the filly. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
WINE NOT ROSES – Raced four wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
GOD'S ANGEL – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event.
 
SIR EX BE – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event.
 
 
Race 2: HENZELLS AGENCY BENCHMARK 58 Handicap (POLY TRACK) 1000 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 3 minutes when COOL INTELLIGENCE required farrier attention behind the barriers.
 
BULL DIMPLE RUM – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
COOL INTELLIGENCE – On arrival at the barriers he tongue tie on the mare was reattached and the near hind plate on the mare was refitted. Slow to begin. Began awkwardly. Rider B Thompson reported the horse hung from the 600m.
 
ATOUCHOFSYN – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
ME AS I AM – Slow to begin.
 
ALL GAIN – Began awkwardly.
 
LIVE MUSIC – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 3: DICKY BEACH SURF CLUB QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1000 metres
 
THELWELL – Inclined to over-race in the early stages of the event. Laid out under pressure over final 200m.
 
EARLSTON – Over-raced in the early stages of the event.
 
YANKEE RIVER – Obliged to alter course to the outside at the entrance to the home straight to secure clear running.
 
LICENCED AND READY – Required farrier attention after shifting a near side plate in the tie up stalls. Laid out for the majority of the event.
 
MILANO BOOM – Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. Rider B Thompson reported the filly raced greenly throughout the event.
 
MISHANI SUNSHINE – Jumped out at the start.
 
 
 
Race 4: HOT 91 Class 5 Handicap 1000 metres
 
DEVIL'S TEMPTATION – Blundered on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
HE CAN STAR – Taken in and crowded for room approaching the 900m.
 
OCEAN WAVES (NZ) – Tightened and had to be checked when crowded for room approaching the 850m.
 
WINSIDE – Slow to begin. Taken in and crowded for room approaching the 900m.
 
BELLE'S PLUCK – Checked near the 900m. Apprentice A Jones, rider of DEVIL’S TEMPTATION, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 900m she permitted her mount to shift in under riding resulting in HE CAN STAR and WINSIDE being crowded for room and taken in and BELLE’S PLUCK being tightened and taken in and having to be checked near the 900m and OCEAN WAVES being taken in and having to be checked approaching the 850m.  The licence of A Jones to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence midnight 16th January up to and including midnight 29th January 2022.
 
CLEVER MISS – After the near fore plate was refitted in the tie up stalls, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start.
 
 
Race 5: FLYING START SYNDICATIONS BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1800 metres
 
On presentation to the saddling enclosure, it was established that ENDLESS MYSTERY and ZAWADI were presented in the incorrect saddles and saddle cloths. At a subsequent inquiry trainer P Jenkins was fined $500 under AR106(1) for the incorrect saddling of both horses and the subsequent presentation of these horses to race. As this error was not discovered until concerns were raised by T Brooker, the rider of ZAWADI, after the horses had arrived in the enclosure, a report in relation to the failure to correctly identify these horses when presented to race, will be provided to the QRIC Chief Steward for his consideration.
 
SENRIMA TIDE (NZ) – Placed in restricted room and had to be steadied near the 1400m. Raced three wide for the majority of the event.
 
ENDLESS MYSTERY – Raced wide from the 700m.
 
ZAWADI (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages of the event before progressing forward to race outside the leader from the 1400m.
 
GINJA – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
DOTNED – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 6: NORTH COAST EQUINE VETERINARY CLINIC Class 3 Handicap 1200 metres
 
ADONISEA – Slow to begin.
 
THE LIONESS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
KELLERS SHELTER – Began awkwardly. Pulled hard in the middle stages and was then held up between the 600m and 300m before shifting inwards to obtain clear running a short distance later.
 
DECEMBER DIAMOND – Held for clear running until a point approaching the 200m.
 
 
Race 7: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres
 
HOT ESCORT – Approaching the 300m obliged to race in restricted room for a short distance.
 
CHECKERS (NZ) – Trainer S Kendrick was fined $200 under LR67 for the late declaration of rider on the gelding.
 
FINNICKY – Jumped out at the start and bumped RALPH’s HONOUR.
 
RALPH'S HONOUR – Bumped at the start. Raced in restricted room to the inside of OUR MIRAGE for a short distance near the 100m. Over-raced and had to be steadied from heels near the 800m. Bumped near the 300m when FINNICKY shifted out to improve.
 
SUPER FAMOUS – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
 
 
Race 8: SKY RACING RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap 1400 metres
 
MISS FLAWLESS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DRATINI – The licence of J Bayliss to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 16th January up to and including midnight 24rd January 2022 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100 metres, four more than permitted. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Rider J Bayliss was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a) in this incident.
 
ONE MORE CAST – Lowered its head as the start was affected resulting in rider M Du Plessis becoming unbalanced in the saddle and the horse losing significant ground.
 
CRIME WAVE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer D Trindall was advised CRIME WAVE would be stood down from racing under AR79(4) for a period of 3 months and must gallop 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward prior to its next race start
MISTRESS OF DOOM – Forced wider and bumped heavily on a number of occasions over the final 300m.
