GENERAL

As R Maloney was injured riding changes were made as per the Race-day summary sheet. R Maloney was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to his next race or trial ride.

Race 1: NUTRIEN/DOSS AG MUNDUBBERA Class 3 Handicap 1600 metres

NEXT DIMENSION (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

When questioned if there was consideration given to allowing NEXT DIMENSION to stride forward in the early stages rather than restrain, rider B Thompson explained that after beginning awkwardly and losing ground he was reluctant to pressure the horse in the early stages as this was NEXT DIMENSION’S first start over 1600m and he felt by positioning the horse outside the leader in the early stages this would give NEXT DIMENSION the best opportunity to finish the race off. Stewards noted the explanation.

DARCHINIAN – As no other apprentice was available S Tomlinson was granted permission to ride the horse claiming 0.5kg of his 1.5kg allowance. S Tomlinson was fined $300 under AR143(14)(a).

DREAM SONG – Jumped in at the start and bumped NOBLE ARTIST.

ELEUTHERA – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

NOBLE ARTIST – Bumped on jumping away. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 2: AVOCA SMASH REPAIRS Maiden Plate 1000 metres

CRACKING THUNDER – Held up rounding the home turn.

THE POWER OF ONE – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was adjusted.

KING SHALAA – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

LORD LOUISON – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.

LUXOR PRINCE – Bumped at the start.

ZI WIN – Fractious after being loaded into the barriers. Approaching the 300m tightened and had to be steadied when racing between KING SHALAA and LUXOR PRINCE which shifted out. M Butler, rider of LUXOR PRINCE, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.

FAVOURITE THINGS – Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.

GIULIA – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

SOOCONTENT – Jumped in at the start and bumped CRACKING THUNDER.

Race 3: MACKAY CITY PET BARN QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1000 metres

CHILLI PALMER – Jumped in at the start and bumped YISKA. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

STRONG LIKE BULL – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly in the early stages and over-raced before being held up rounding the home turn.

TAKERU – Raced greenly in the early stages

YISKA – Bumped at the start. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

KAYLEEN – Shifted out abruptly at the start and lost ground.

THE MISSIONARY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 4: KLEIDON MASTERBUILT HOMES Colts, Geldings & Entires RATINGS BAND 0 - 6 1000 metres

GROOMED – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start.

PUBLICAN'S PURSE – Jumped in at the start and bumped heavily with LOVE YA BLUE. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider T Brooker reported the horse did not never travel comfortably at any stage of the event and may not have appreciated the soft track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery rate. Trainer J Gleeson advised he felt the 4 weeks between runs may also have had an impact on the performance. Stewards noted the explanation.

ROCK ON DESTINY – Jumped out at the start and ground and lost ground.

LOVE YA BLUE – Bumped heavily at the start and became unbalanced. Raced wide for the majority.

Race 5: FOODWORKS AGNES WATER Maiden Plate 1400 metres

A DEVIL'S CHANCE – From the wide barrier was restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.

DOWN AND AROUND – Rider J Huxtable advised it was not his intention to lead however being caught wide in the early stages of the event he allowed the horse to stride forward and lead the event.

ROMAN QUEEN – From the wide barrier was restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

SHE MAKES ME HAPPY – Raced three wide from the 800m. Rider A Sewell reported the horse was galloped on rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the nearside hock.

REBEL LEADER – Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. When questioned regarding tactics in the early stages, particularly if there was an opportunity to lead, R Fradd stated instructions were to hold the horse up for one run with cover, however after runners to the inside improved, he was caught racing three wide without cover. Trainer I Turner confirmed the instructions however in hindsight would have preferred the horse to stride forward to the lead. Stewards accepted the explanation of jockey Fradd in that he was a victim of circumstances in attempting to comply with instructions.

GIVEITAGO – When the pace slackened approaching the 800m had to be restrained from heels. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

FRANKEL MOON - When the pace slackened approaching the 800m had to be restrained from heels.

MOMEMORY – When asked to comment on tactics adopted in the early stages where the horse settled in a more forward position which is in contrast to the horse’s usual racing pattern apprentice J Cornish explained that after beginning well she attempted to restrain MOMEMORY however the horse raced ungenerously and became unbalanced. App Cornish added passing the 1000m she allowed MOMEMORY to stride forward and the horse settled more comfortably from that point. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 6: HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROLLY BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1200 metres

PLENTY – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages and approaching the 700m improved onto heels and shifted out bumping DEVILLAIN. Laid out rounding the home turn.

BOOMBRASSTIC – Over-raced Near the 800m shifted in and bumped with JINX ’N’ DRINKS and then commenced to over-race.

CUPID'S BOW (NZ) – Fractious after being loaded into the barriers. Jumped in at the start. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

DEVILLAIN – Bumped at the start. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Bumped near the 700m.

JEEHAAN – Slow to begin.

Race 7: BEETLE COLLINS CHARLEVILLE MEMORIAL Class 1 Handicap 1400 metres

THE GOLDEN SOUL – As the start was effected lunged forward and made contact with the front barrier partition and as a consequence began awkwardly.

AFRICAN STORM – Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event. Raced greenly in the home straight when placed under pressure.

Race 8: BUNDY CHOP SHOP Fillies and Mares RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap 1000 metres

VON SAGA – After passing the 100m was obliged to alter course to secure clear running.

MADAM AVA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Inconvenienced when SIP IT SLOW commenced to buck passing the 900m. Bumped heavily near the 100m.

SIP IT SLOW – Trainer B Gorman was fined $200 for the late declaration of rider on the mare. On arrival at the barriers the saddle was adjusted. Began awkwardly. After the saddle shifted significantly back SIP IT SLOW commenced to buck passing the 900m and then took no competitive part in the event from that point. Stewards inspected the gear of G Cartwright following the event and found it to be of a satisfactory standard. Stewards interviewed trainer B Gorman who indicated that the mare is quite lightly framed and he would be advising riders to apply a gel pad in future starts.

DAWN COLOURS – Bumped heavily near the 100m.

SNEAKY THREE – Bumped heavily on jumping. Near the 100m shifted out under pressure and bumped heavily with both DAWN COLOURS and MADAM AVA. T Brooker, rider of SNEAKY THREE, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for carelessness in this incident.
